Bellatrix Female Warriors: Amy-Lee Kramer

amy-lee 2I have a series of interviews coming up with the ladies from Bellatrix Female Warriors. Their next big show is on Sunday September 28th – Bellatrix X  – and there are some big matches on the card. Today, I’ve been talking to Amy-Lee Kramer. A second generation star, she has been in the industry for about 4 years , so let’s find out a little about Amy-Lee.

DW: According to my information, you’re a second generation star – your dad is Karl Kramer. Did watching your father wrestle influence your decision to become a wrestler?

A-L: Strangely enough, it wasn’t my dad that made me want to be a wrestler. I was quite happy being the daughter of a wrestler – I thought that was cool enough!

I was 13 years old when I attended my first ever WAW show in 2007 in Great Yarmouth. That night, the Norfolk Dolls (who are now Paige from WWE and Sammi Baynes) were wrestling. They captivated me so much that I can’t even remember who they were against. From that moment onwards, I knew that was what I wanted to do.

DW: I would have thought that watching a member of your family risk their health for entertainment would have given you second thoughts?

A-L: Not at all. I was too young to realise the risks, which is why I jumped in head-on. Injuries didn’t occur to me!

DW: I saw that you appeared in a documentary about young mums. Was that before or after you had started training?

A-L: The documentary was filmed after. It was filmed and completed in 2010 when I was pregnant with my first daughter.

amy lee 3DW: Did having a documentary centred on you bring negative feedback and energy, or did it give you even more reason to succeed?

A-L: I got great feedback from the show. The whole reason I did it was to prove you can be a good young mum, and keep your dreams and aspirations. It gave me more motivation, yes.

DW: What were you expecting when you went to your first training session?

A-L: Nothing even remotely similar to what I really got. I was the smallest and youngest person in the room, and I had a lot to live up to (being my dad’s daughter). It’s safe to say it was a hard weekend, but I didn’t stop.

DW: You’ve had a few trainers, including your dad. Did they all bring different elements into your style and character in the ring?

A-L: Yes, definitely. I take a piece from everyone that I learn from and try to use it as much as I can. I’m made up of some of the best and most successful wrestlers in UK history. Not many people can say that.

DW: Do you remember your first match in WAW and who it was with?

A-L: It’s something I will never forget. My first match was with Britani Knight, now Paige in WWE. I am very honoured to be able to say that. It was also a very good match and something I will never forget.

DW: After achieving a standing in the mixed division of WAW, you moved over to Bellatrix. How different was it going to an all-female division?

A-L: Very different. I was used to WAW’s home-grown girls, so to then find talent from over the water coming into Bellatrix, it was a whole new game for me, but a good one. Since then, I’ve been able to wrestle different women, and I’ve learnt something from each of them.

Amy-leeDW: I’ve seen you wrestle at a few events now, and you’re a very good heel. Did you always want to be a rule breaker?

A-L: No I didn’t. I wanted to please the crowd. I wanted to be the complete opposite to my dad, but it turns out that it’s in my blood. I take on a very spoiled brat, get-my-own-way type of persona in the ring that’s actually closer to home than you’d think. What can I say? I’m a natural!

DW: If you could wrestle anybody from ANY time – who would you most like to have had a match with?

A-L: I’m a massive fan of the British greats. I’m still privileged enough to be able to say I can wrestle Sweet Saraya, but I would have loved to have been in the ring with the likes of Klondyke Kate, or Busty Keegan in their heyday. It would have been an honour.

DW: Thank you for taking the time to answer my questions today. I know you probably have a busy week ahead with the Bellatrix show looming, so good luck with your upcoming matches and hopefully there’ll be a championship reign for you in the near future!

A-L: Thank you.
