Davie’s Dungeon: Too Soon For Rollins?

Welcome to the dungeon!

As we seen at WWE Night of Champions, Seth Rollins nearly cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase. Over the years we’ve seen some surprising moments when superstars cash in when we least expect it and it’s created great TV. The only question I have when it comes to Seth Rollins is, is it too soon for him to be a credible and believable champion?

From my point of view when watching him in the Shield, I always thought he seemed like the third wheel of the group. The one who was least likely to succeed and the only who was least likely to get a push from the creative team (or Vince McMahon).

I was more than surprised when he won the Money in the Bank ladder match, not because he isn’t good but because he didn’t seem to be as over with the fans as Dean Ambrose or Roman Reigns. Ambrose was the one in the group who was fantastic on the mic and had the attitude, Reigns was the powerhouse of the group who has ‘the look’ whereas Rollins just seemed to be in the background.

Rollins however, has speed and athleticism but that doesn’t make him seem like the perfect fit for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. The MITB briefcase gives the WWE a chance to get a superstar over with the fans and build him up to possibly be the next big star.

We’ve only seen one person fail to cash in the briefcase, who would of thought it would have been John Cena? I have never understood why the WWE would give someone the briefcase only for them to fail to cash in. Cena is the face of the company, an established star, so it was pointless to give him the briefcase. It didn’t matter that he failed to cash in but it all just seemed like a waste of time.

I know there aren’t many superstars who are at the level to take on the WWE Championship and lead the company into the future, but I don’t see Seth Rollins being able to cash in and become the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion. I don’t see him as believable as a champion as Brock Lesnar.

At this moment in time there are a few other superstars who I’d put ahead of Rollins to become the next champion, including Roman Reigns, Dean Ambrose and Cesaro. I don’t think any of them are ready yet, the WWE has a lot of work to do and they need to have patience until the next crop of champions are ready.
