Davie’s Dungeon: Wrestlemania 30 Thoughts

Welcome to the dungeon!

The Showcase of the Immortals is finally upon us. I’m excited for WrestleMania, but not as much as I have been in the past.

The build-up for Daniel Bryan since SummerSlam has been fantastic and no matter how much it has annoyed fans waiting for him to win the title, no-one can deny the WWE has built this story perfectly.

I think the majority of fans will be hoping for a Daniel Bryan victory over Triple H, which will put him in the main-event and hopefully means he’ll on to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. However, what if the WWE decides to keep us hanging on and go with Triple H doing the seemingly unthinkable by winning the championship?

It’s more than unlikely this will happen, but it’s a possibility. We all know anything can happen in the WWE!

A Triple H win would pave the way for Vince McMahon to return and, alongside Daniel Bryan, try to take the Authority down. It could also set up the major storyline of the summer, leading up to SummerSlam. It will piss off a lot of fans, but if WWE were to go in that direction, it’d make for an interesting summer.

I still see them giving the fans what they want though – Daniel Bryan standing victorious at the end of WrestleMania as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

WWE may have struck gold with the Daniel Bryan storyline and the Yes Movement leading up to WrestleMania, but what about the rest of the card?

Even though there are some intriguing matches, I can’t help but think that fans really couldn’t care less.

Brock Lesnar will try to break The Undertaker’s Streak in what should be a very interesting bout. Both men are great wrestlers, but this’ll be more of a brutal slobberknocker. The short build has been good, and I’ll watch anything that involves The Deadman, although I think he should have been facing John Cena.

Does anyone really believe Brock Lesnar will end the Streak? It’s not going to happen. Simple as that. Why would the WWE allow a part-timer to break the iconic Streak when it isn’t going to benefit anyone?

If it was Undertaker taking on John Cena, then I’d have been more sceptical about who would win. I don’t ever see the Streak ending, but when it comes to John Cena, you’ve always got that little bit of doubt in your mind. That’s the route WWE should’ve taken for WrestleMania 30.

Instead, John Cena has been given the role of facing one of the best (and most interesting) rising stars in recent times in Bray Wyatt. Will the WWE be brave enough to give an upcoming star a victory over the face of the company?

It has to happen. A John Cena victory won’t help anyone and after all the work the WWE have done developing Bray Wyatt’s character, they must capitalize on this opportunity. Cena has nothing to gain by winning this match. He can be slotted back into the main-event at any time, simply because he’s John Cena.

I hope Bray Wyatt gets the victory, because he could become a future main-event star in a short period of time. A win over John Cena would show that the WWE has faith in its younger stars, who are ready to lead the company into the future.

When I look at the rest of the card, nothing else really interests me.

I’m disappointed The Shield are facing Kane and The New Age Outlaws. They deserve to be in a bigger match. The Andre the Giant Battle Royal is a good idea if it’s kept as a new WrestleMania tradition, but the stars in that match don’t interest me either.

Surprisingly, I am looking forward to the Divas match. Having said that, I don’t see the point of involving so many Divas that don’t get TV time. I’d like to see Tamina win because she’s one of the most talented, yet underutilized, Divas in recent years. AJ will probably come away with the victory once again, but it’s just as possible that one of the stars of Total Divas will pick up the win which will be a shame (unless it’s Natalya).

The past few WrestleManias have been fallen a bit flat in my opinion, so let’s hope WrestleMania 30 will live up to the hype!
