What If… There Was A ‘Federation Era’ Money in the Bank?

Hey folks, SLTD Wrestling has a brand new article concept. What If…

This will basically focus on what would happen if certain story-lines, matches or ideas played out differently.

With it being Money in the Bank weekend we thought, what if there was a Money in the Bank match in the Federation Era? (1993-1997) Below is who we thought would get the opportunity to wrestle in what would be the first ever Money in the Bank match. We have tried to pick an eclectic mix of former world champions, and guys who just fell short of the great prize, but would history be different if the Money in the Bank match was around?

Shawn Michaels –  When you think of the early Ladder matches one name comes to mind, The Heartbreak Kid. If there was a Money in the Bank match in the early to mid 90’s there is absolutely no doubt that Michaels would be one of the first names announced to be a part of it.

Bret Hart – In the mid 90’s Bret Hart was ‘the man’ in WWF, widely considered one of the best wrestlers around this match would be out of Hart’s comfort zone, but he would not pass up the opportunity to have a contract to wrestle for the WWF Championship. This would be an interesting continuation or beginning to the classic Michaels vs Hart feud.

Razor Ramon – Although Razor won the first ladder match in the WWF, he is often overlooked because of the high flying moves of Michaels in that match, but Ramon did walk of of that match the undisputed Intercontinental Champion. Its for this reason, you have to believe that Razor would be involved in the match. As he is the only participant to have winning ladder match experience, could he do the double and win the contract?

Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts – There is no denying that Jake ‘The Snake’ Roberts should of won the big one in his WWF career, if an opportunity like Money in the Bank was around in the early 90’s would he of took that last step to immortality? Roberts would be a great addition to this match as he is the most untrustworthy of everyone involved. Also with the added unpredictability of Damion, anything could happen.

‘The Million Dollar Man’ Ted Dibiase – History would say that even if The Million Dollar Man was not originally announced for this Money in the Bank, he would worm his way in, as we all know ‘everyone has a price’ The idea of DiBiase not being in a match called ‘Money in the Bank’ would make him irate. Who’s place he would take, I’m not sure, but money would be no object. Can you see anyone else walking around with a money can’t buy contract?

Goldust – The last entrant to this match would have to be ‘the bizarre one’. Goldust is a former Intercontinental Champion and another guy who should of been given the opportunity at the big one. Although he is still around, the Goldust of the 90’s was a very different man. He was mysterious, sexually suggestive, and his presence was unique. Goldust would be the wildcard in this match, but with the addition of Marlena and using in-ring psychology to his advantage anything is possible.

Below Tom, Baz and Tybo give their thoughts on who would walk out Mr Money in The Bank.

This one is very hard to call. I can make a case for all 6 of these guys to walk out with the victory. I’m going to rule out Bret and Jake because they don’t need a briefcase, they’re awesome as they are. I could see HBK taking out Razor due to their bad blood, then I could easily see Ted DiBiase paying off a brash HBK to let him win the briefcase. Could you imagine the epicness of Ted DiBiase being guaranteed a title shot? Can you imagine how much he’d ram that down our throats? I would love it…so for me, even MITB participants have a price for the Million Dollar Man! hahahahahaha. Winner – ‘Million Dollar Man’ Ted DiBiase

For me, experience plays a bigger role than everything. Shawn Michaels technically would have way more experience than everyone else, one guy has more experience in winning big ladder matches… the bad guy. Razor Ramon has won big ladder matches several times in his career and I think he has the smarts, strength and speed to best everyone to get that briefcase. Winner – Razor Ramon

@Tybo_SLTD (Tybo Talks)
I have to say the build up for this match would be amazing, all the different characters with all the different attributes would make this match an instant classic. The smart money would be on previous ladder match participants, so Micheals, Razor or Hart. But with the viciousness of Jake’ The Snake’ Roberts, pet snake Damion, the fact that Goldust is so unpredictable, and not forgetting ‘The Million Dollar Man’ could pay of anyone to get what he wants. This could be anyone’s match. If this was the Money in the Bank I would have to go with HBK.
Winner – Shawn Michaels

So that’s what we think a ‘Federation Era’ Money in the Bank match would look like, but what do you think?

Who would be the participants and who would eventually win the whole thing? Let us know below
