Goldberg v Lesnar, What’s Next?

We now know that both Goldberg and Brock Lesnar will be in the Royal Rumble match. I’m in a similar mindset to how I felt about Survivor Series, I’m not a big fan of the idea.

Facing facts, both of these guys whether they are in the Royal Rumble at the same time or separately are going to just dismantle the entire Raw and Smackdown Live roster.
WWE have backed themselves into a corner now with how they’ve booked Goldberg, because if he can dominate Brock Lesnar, a man who the top superstars of the company couldn’t, then would it be plausible having the Baron Corbin’s, Dolph Ziggler’s and Rusev’s being able to beat him? I don’t think so.
Although I don’t particularly want to see yet another Goldberg v Lesnar match, I’d rather have that than either of them win the Royal Rumble.

Who do I think should win the Royal Rumble match? Well I think we’ll have to get the Smackdown Live ppv ‘TLC’ out of the way first in case there are any major title changes there. There’s also Roadblock, exclusive to the Raw brand (way too many pay per view events), which could also indicate a clue as to the direction they’re heading in with the titles.

Back to Goldberg and Lesnar, it’s a shame WWE relies heavily on two part timers, putting so much time and showcase onto them, rather than the talent that are on the shows week in week out.
I get why though, Brock Lesnar is a massive draw, he sells tickets and attracts ratings. I don’t know why, his matches are hardly the best, if you can even call them matches? If you look at Lesnar’s last two offerings (Summerslam vs Randy Orton, Survivor Series v Goldberg), could you honestly say you were entertained by either?

At the end of Summerslam I just felt..cheated. With both matches, I started off with the ‘who cares’ attitude, because for me there was no real need or significance to the matches, but as they grew closer I admit my excitement had grown.
They had the chance to make a classic between the two, yet they opted for Goldberg to simply squash Lesnar with ease, showing that someone that hasn’t wrestled in 12 years can brush aside a man considered WWE’s best.

How I would book the Royal Rumble match is IF the company are wanting to have Brock/Goldberg face off at Wrestlemania 33, then I would firstly have Lesnar eliminate Goldberg, which sets up the match and gives Goldberg a reason to want to face him again. Secondly, I would have someone in that match eliminate Lesnar, seeing as he won’t need to win as he’ll already have a ready made feud leading up to Wrestlemania.
That superstar that eliminates Brock Lesnar will be given huge momentum going into WWE’s big season, and the company can use that to push them forward and elevate them to the main event. It’s so simple, by eliminating Lesnar, you could give one superstar the opportunity to make it to the next level.
I always harp on about him being given the time and correct booking, but Cesaro is my man to eliminate Lesnar, then WWE can really get behind him at take him further than he’s even been.

Realistically I think WWE have to be smart with how they book both Goldberg and Lesnar, because fans could soon turn on them just like they did back in 2004. They really have to give a reason for Goldberg to want to fight Lesnar again, because I don’t see the need to see any more from the two after Survivor Series.
As much as I dislike Kevin Owens, I hope they don’t make the Universal Title the sacrifice to Brock Lesnar so he has the title that Goldberg wants to win. I’m not sure how they’d manage to explain giving Lesnar a title opportunity so soon after the abysmal performance for his last outing, but stranger things have happened.

The problem for me with part timers, is I struggle to get behind them unless I know they’re sticking around, like Chris Jericho. With Lesnar I think, well it doesn’t really matter what happens in this/that match with him, he won’t be on Raw the next night, or the one after that etc, so what has truly been gained at all?
As long as from their feud we as fans can take away something, or someone else has been helped develop by it, then I’m all for it, otherwise it’s yet another match that’ll be placed randomly into the WWE calendar without any future benefits.

Are you interested in seeing another Goldberg v Brock Lesnar match? Will either man win the Royal Rumble match?
