There are 3 dates on the Insane Championship Wrestling calendar that are absolute must-see shows, Fear & Loathing in the fall, BarraMania in the spring, and this weekend’s show, Shug’s Hoose Party. The difference between these shows in the past is that they were one show, usually on a Sunday and because of the higher visibility and popularity of ICW throughout the world, Shug’s Hoose Party 4 will now be a “weekender” with shows both on Saturday and Sunday. The biggest storyline currently going on in ICW revolves around the ICW World Heavyweight Championship that is currently held by Joe Coffey. Coffey, a longtime fan favorite, finally won the big one, defeating Trent Seven for the title at BarraMania in April. But as soon as he won the title, he turned to the darkside, namely joining with ICW super-agent Red Lightning and joined his group. He will defend his ICW World title in a 15-foot high steel cage match with a man, who for a very long time in ICW, ran rough-shod over the company with Red Lightning as a member of Black Label, Jack Jester. Jester has been stellar since the Black Label was forced to disband, winning a hellacious feud with Drew Galloway (Drew McIntrye in NXT now) and going through all of the obstacles that were put in front of him, winning a 6-man scramble match to become #1 contender and finally get his chance to regain the ICW World title that he hasn’t held since late 2014. Coffey has been on a roll, even if it has been done with some heelish tactics, defeating
Coffey is at the top of the card not just on Sunday, but the Saturday show as well, teaming up with another long-time fan favorite turned a client of Red Lightning, Grado. Grado turned heel also at BarraMania, turning on one-half of the tag team that himself and Coffey will face on Saturday, Sha Samuels. Samuels has enlisted the help of him and Grado’s old Pinky Party stablemate, WWE/205 Live star, “The Scottish Supernova” Noam Dar. Dar will be returning for one night only for ICW in hopes of helping his friend to deliver a big blow to Red Lightning’s new charges ahead of the grudge match between Grado and Samuels on the major show on Sunday.
The WWE UK title is going to play a major role on Saturday’s show as Pete Dunne defends his title in a Fatal Four Way Match against former ICW World Champions and WWE UK championship tournament competitors, Trent Seven and Wolfgang, and BT Gunn. Gunn had to win a Fatal 4-Way match at ICW’s Trainspotting event just to get into a #1 Contender’s match with Wolfgang. Gunn and Wolfgang had participated in a #1 Contender’s match on a recent ICW Fight Club show, but it was ruled a no-contest as both men had pinned each other. ICW Owner Mark Dallas then put both men in the title bout, along with Trent Seven, who won I expect Dunne to come out of Saturday’s show still the champ.
The ICW tag team division could be significantly altered after the weekend when Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo and Mark Coffey), who have been wasting the ICW tag team division ever since they lost their titles to the duo of Bird and Boar, have put their team on the line, against Bird and Boar and their Marauder stablemate Iestyn Rees, for a chance at another shot at the tag team titles. It will be a 6-man tag match with Polo and Coffey having a “mystery partner” for Sunday’s match. Polo Promotions have been on fire and had one of the best tag team matches of 2017 in all of the world at BarraMania with current IWGP tag team champions War Machine. If Polo Promotions win on Sunday, which I believe they will, they will get a shot at Bird and Boar at a future taping of ICW Fight Club and will likely regain the tag titles, which with the performances they have been putting out, they deserve.
ICW has a history of having very talented women work their shows and the Women’s title match on Saturday’s show will be no different. The ICW Women’s Champion is Kay Lee Ray, who will also be featured in the upcoming Mae Young Classic on the WWE Network, and she has held that title since Fear and Loathing IX back in November, winning the title from and retiring longtime champion and favorite Carmel Jacob. She will take on relative newcomer and upstart Kasey Owens, who pinned Viper (who is also going to compete in the Mae Young Classic), in what is considered a mild upset. Kay Lee Ray has all the momentum on her side and she will leave Saturday night’s show still the ICW Women’s Champion.
The Zero-G championship is considered the X-Division championship and they have one of the most intriguing matchups on this weekend’s cards. Saturday night the title, and most likely a feud that has been going on for 4 months, will be decided in a ladder match between the current champion, “Liverpool’s #1” Zack Gibson, defending his title against the man he took the title from, Kenny Williams. Gibson has been a breakout star of 2017 in the United Kingdom and won the Zero-G title within 2 months of his debut with ICW as he targeted the championship, and Kenny Williams immediately. Gibson won the title from Williams in a hellacious “Falls Count Anywhere” match that saw him pin Williams in the streets of Glasgow. I expect Gibson to retain, and gradually build his Zero-G title reign into something special. I don’t know where this would take Williams, but he recently worked a very solid match with ICW World Champion Joe Coffey and did not look out of place at all, so a move up to the heavyweight division could be his calling.
And also it wouldn’t be an ICW show without some fun and some heartbreak for yours truly. Ravie Davie and “The Session Moth” Martina will be getting married on Sunday night’s show in a “Scheme Wedding”. Alas fellas, Martina is going to be one more girl that we won’t be getting. I guess we have to all turn our attention to the lovely backstage interviewer Jennifer Louise now.
