For those who don’t know, Rampage Ramsey is a wrestler who represents the RWA Wrestling promotion and he is one of a number of talents who current ply their trade in the UK. He kindly allowed me to interview him recently on his current thoughts of the UK Wrestling scene, and what he thinks RWA Wrestling need to do in order to develop as a company.

Q1. So Rampage Ramsey, thank you for taking the time to answer some questions for SLTD Wrestling. First could you give a bit of background on your persona and the RWA promotion?

It started when I was a kid growing up watching wrestling, I fell in love with wrestling that I wanted to do it there and then but the problem was where to start at the time because I didn’t know where any wrestling schools were at the time, I was 16 at the time and I decided to leave it to focus on school studies colleges educations jobs etc. Then a few years later friend of mine told me about the RWA wrestling academy so I went to check it out and after the experience that I saw, I decided to reduce my hours from my job to train with them. So my 1st training session was great already having some knowledge of the sport but I learned a lot more that I didn’t know about. So fast forward to where I made my wrestling debut and I chose my name to which people still ask me to this day why Rampage Ramsey. The answer is because I was bullied when I was younger and I want to put a stop to that because I hate bullying as much as the next person and that’s what I stand for. It sends the message to stand up against bullying it gives my fans, the RWA fans and even non wrestling fans the hope as each and every one of them can stand up against bullying all it takes is courage every person has that. That is how Rampage Ramsey was born.

The RWA is a really fantastic place to start, the most recommended school in the north west, it’s head trainer Andrew Baker who has been to the WWE and its former development territory OVW and has been trained by the like of Rip Rogers, Bill Demott, Lance Storm, Dr Tom Pritchard and many more, he has made his appearances on WWE shows RAW, Smackdown & NXT. It has been recommended by WWE’s William Regal, Legend and former WWE/WCW trainer Rip Rogers and British Legend Marty Jones. It’s a friendly fun environment, respectful school where anyone is welcome. Junior class provides the basic skills of wrestling (NO HIGH RISK moves), breakfalls, character development, classes also build confidence, get trainees fit and give trainees the opportunities to build social skills and make friends. Training costs as little as £6.50 for under 16’s, and £7 for 16 and over, and will provide you with ALL the tools you need. Producing talent that has toured the country, as well as running many of our own shows every year, allowing our trainees to showcase their skills to a packed out Runcorn crowd, the RWA and its team of trainers are more than qualified to give you an opportunity to take your first steps into a wrestling ring.

Q2. How do people who want to become wrestlers get into the business and what does it take to get to the level of fitness needed?

It takes a great attitude, commitment, and patience. Always be humble, have respect for your trainer(s) and trainees I recommend Runcorn Wrestling Academy to learn the ropes. Always listen to what the trainer(s) say it influences you to get better at training and when performing on shows learn from mistakes created. As for fitness you push yourself to your potential, that’s something I work on everyday that’s what the RWA does not only teaching you how to wrestle but it helps you with your potentials. My advice for motivation on fitness is always be the hardest working person in the room. Three main points I think about every time is train hard, eat right & rest well.

Q3. What changes do you think of the influx of British wrestlers like Rockstar Spud, Paige, King Barrett have had on the UK Wrestling scene?

It gives the wrestlers the inspiration to push harder than they ever have to make it to the top promotions, they gain the experiences from the top trainers in those promotions and can share that with promotions in the UK on what to expect when they have the opportunities for those experiences.

Q4. If you could have one dream match what would it be and who would it be with?

My dream match, very simple Rampage Ramsey vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin. I grew up watching Austin his in-ring ability his character and his gimmick the story telling in matches had me sold in I was glued to the T.V.  So it would a dream come true to meet him but even better if I could wrestle him and learn from him.

Q5. Do you prefer to be a singles competitor or a tag-team?

Well right now in a tag-team with my current partner M.O.D. (Master of Disaster) our team name The Masters of Rampage challenging for the RWA Tag Team Championships. I’ve had great matches as a singles competitor and I would like to continue that as a tag team.

Q6. If you could face any wrestler of the current or previous generation who would it be and why?

That is probably the toughest question I’ve had because there are so many wrestlers I would like to face such as Austin as said before, Kurt Angle, British Bulldog, Bret Hart, Triple H, The Rock And so many. I’ve said Austin as my dream match so that pretty much sums up this question and the same reasons apply.

Q7. How do you see the RWA Wrestling promotion developing?

Its developing really well it’s has been going for over 10 years and they’ve put on shows in Widnes & Frodsham. It has expanded its promotion in Winsford where it starts from the beginning again training future RWA wrestlers which I hope to wrestle them soon but it has been stated to have its debut show is coming soon along with an action packed 2016 already scheduled at new images youth centre so it’s possible that Rampage Ramsey could make an appearance. For young wrestling fans that wish to do wrestling I encourage you to do it best starting early otherwise there will come a time wondering whether if you could or not take a chance in life you only live it once. It’s the best thing I have ever done in my life as I’m living my dream as a wrestler.

Q8. Who is the best wrestler you have faced in your career up to now?

That’s a tough one I have to say it’s both my former rival, the current NXL Champion Mr Williams who to this day I have my favourite match in my wrestling career at Night of Memories 10, the 1st ever Blackboard Match I may have not have won that match but it’s my favourite match I’ve competed in. and the other is Demoni the leader of The Rejected who’s group I’m competing for the tag titles. He has been there longer than I have and I respect him for that but it’s unfortunate that his group is in the way of the tag team titles. My favourite match involving him was the debut of the future champions The Masters of Rampage at Dogs at War back in June we faced Demoni and Azazel and we defeated them.

Q9. Is there any other promotion and wrestler who you currently admire?

The WWE was one of the promotions I grew up watching and I dream I could have the opportunity to work for. But wrestlers I admire for so many reasons are unbelievable not because of their wrestling abilities and how good they are in the ring but how great their hearts are even though they perform shows week in and week out but they have the time to charitable things such as visiting sick children, anti-bullying campaigns etc. The RWA does its fair share of charity such as The Jon Baker Foundation. This was started in memory of a brave 37 year old man from Runcorn, who battled Breast Cancer time and time again until it defeated him on the 22nd January 2013.

Jon tried to spread awareness of the disease which is on the rise yearly, he fought for Men to have the support they need. the Jon Baker Foundation are aiming to continue to spread awareness for Men so please help our cause and spread the word as “It’s Not Just A Girl a Thing…. Men Get It Too!”
