How to make Braun Strowman work

For those who don’t know, Braun Strowman (Adam Scherr) was originally a competitor in strongman competitions. He won his first American Strongman Corporation (ASC) Professional Card by winning the NAS US Amateur National Championships on November 5, 2011. He then followed this up by winning and placing in strongman competitions up to May 2013.

It was in May, 2013, that Scherr had reportedly signed with WWE. He was moved straight into the performance centre and took on the name Braun Strowman. He made only two appearances on the NXT roster before joining the Wyatt Family on August 24, 2015. He appeared out of nowhere, like the classic Wyatt way, and attacked Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns, setting himself up as the latest Wyatt Family member. Strowman has taken part in a few matches and was marked a monster in the Rumble by eliminating 5 members before being eliminated by Lesnar.

But the question we have to ask is simple, why hasn’t his character truly worked? He’s been designed as a monster that no-one can defeat and yet we don’t buy into it. I think it is simple and it is the problem that WWE have had for years, they cannot book new stars properly. For people like John Cena, Brock Lesnar, Undertaker and the rest of the seasoned veterans it is easy, put them in a feud and see what happens. They tend to book the ending’s wrong but at least we get some classic matches out of it. That doesn’t seem to be the case with the new stars, they struggle so much.

They have tried and tried to get Reigns over but the crowd is begging for an Ambrose win. They are trying to get Sheamus and Rusev over and yet people want Kevin Owens. They just cannot book properly and it is such a shame. They need to turn Strowman into the monster they are pushing him out to be. In order to do this it’s really simple, book him like they did with Brock Lesnar originally. Have Bray Wyatt and his family at the top of the ramp but have Strowman decimate anyone and everyone in the ring. Make this happen week in and week out. Then you have him target a top talent and have him win! Not just win but destroy. Have him pick up Reigns and toss him about like a ragdoll and make us believe that it will take only the best in the business to beat him.

They did it perfectly a while back with Mark Henry. Here is a guy you didn’t believe could be a main event player and yet he introduced the Hall of Pain. He would target everyone and not just beat them but punish them and it worked. The Wyatt’s have always been a powerhouse group but people aren’t pushing them like they used too and it seems to be because they are WWE’s go to group. If something isn’t working properly, throw the Wyatt’s in, if the title race isn’t going properly, throw the Wyatt’s in, if Undertaker needs an anniversary or a special show, throw the Wyatt’s in.

Strowman can become a beast and a top talent in the business, but he shouldn’t be stood next to the Wyatt’s but behind. Like a tower of pain that can come crashing down on you any time. He could even not be seen until he’s needed. Bray gets threatened and a match takes place, the Wyatt’s minus Strowman in or around the ring, and the lights go out. When they come back Strowman is standing over the body of whoever threatened Bray, lights go off and come back on and he’s gone, Bray picks up the pin. Now we are left with wonder and excitement but at the moment Strowman has become more of a novelty act instead of a monster.

How would you like to see Strowman booked? Do you think he’s wasted in the Wyatt’s?
