Old Skool View Presents….Summerslams of 2010’s

With just one day to go before this years Summerslam, I finish off my round up of Summerslams from the past with looking at the Summerslams from 2010-2015. It’s been a fun trip down memory lane, and had many “who booked that” moments, so let us see what the final instalment gives us.

Summerslam 2010 was headlined by Team Cean vs Nexus in a 7 on 7 elimination match. We had a “Who booked that” moment here too as someone came up with the brilliant idea of having Bret Hart in this match, really who booked that? Obviously Cena ended up winning, but Daniel Bryan was the star right? This main event and the two title matches took up something like 75% of the show haha, in the title matches Kane beat Rey Mysterio to retain the WHC and Randy Orton beat Sheamus via DQ in the WWE Title match so Sheamus retained.

Elsewhere Dolph Ziggler vs Kofi for the IC Title went to a no contest after Nexus turned up, Melina beat Alicia Fox to win the Divas Championship and Big Show killed off SES (Remember them haha).

Summerslam 2011 ended with the biggest “Who booked that” moment in ages. After CM Punk successfully beat John Cena to retain the WWE Title, Mr “Quad Tear” himself buried Punk and Bertie Del Rio cashed in to win the WWE Title, I mean really? Granted Punk came off this few months white hot and had that long title reign but really who made that decision? In the WHC match Randy Orton beat Christian to win the WHC.

Elsewhere the team of Kofi, Jo-Mo & Rey Mysterio beat Awesome Truth & Bertie Del Rio in a 6 man tag, Mark Henry beat Sheamus via countout, Kelly Kelly retained the Divas Championship over Beth Phoenix (Again who the hell booked that idea?) and Wade Barrett beat Daniel Bryan.

Summerslam 2012…the one where Lesnar started to romp over everyone, and the WWE Title continued to take a backseat to part timers, sorry Phil L. Lesnar beat HHH in the main event, CM Punk continued his awesome WWE title run picking up a victory in a triple threat over John Cena & Big Show, and Sheamus retained the WHC against Bertie Del Rio.

Elsewhere Chris Jericho made Dolph Ziggler tap out, Daniel Bryan beat Kane, Miz defended the IC title against Rey Mysterio, and R-Truth/Kofi Kingston retained the Tag Titles against Prime Time Players.

Summerslam of 2013 gave us our second screwy cash in, in three years. After Daniel Bryan defied the odds and beat John Cena to win the WWE Title, Trips turned on him and Orton cashed in to win the title, the rest is obviously history but still why Summerlsam haha. In the other big matches Brock Lesnar got the better of CM Punk and Bertie Del Rio retained the WHC against Christian.

Elsewhere Bray Wyatt beat Kane in a ring of fire match, Cody Rhodes beat Damien Sandow and the team of Dolph Ziggler & Kaitlyn beat Big E & AJ Lee.

The Summerslam of 2014 was one of those rare occasions where the titles changed hands in every title match. Brock Lesnar destroyed John Cena to win the WWE Title, Dolph Ziggler beat Miz to win the IC Title and Paige beat AJ Lee to win the Divas Title.

Elsewhere Rusev beat Jack Swagger in a flag match, Seth Rollins beat Dean Ambrose in a lumberjack match, Bray Wyatt beat Chris Jericho, Steph beat Brie Bella & Roman Reigns beat Randy Orton.

Finally we’re on to last years effort. Last year we had a Divas revolution begin, we had a dual champion, we had the start of a glorious tag team title reign and we had Lesnar/Taker 2. Taker of course beat Lesnar in the main event by making him tap out, Seth Rollins became a dual champion by taking John Cena’s US Title and retaining the WWE Title, and the New Day won the Tag Titles in a fatal 4 way involving PTP, The Lucha Dragons & Los Matadores.

Elsewhere that horrid angle between Dolph & Rusev had a match that ended in a double countout, Stephen Amell & Neville beat Stardust & King Barrett, Ryback retained the IC Title in a triple threat match against Big Show & Miz, Roman Reigns & Dean Ambrose beat Wyatt Family in tag team action, Team PCB  started the Divas revolution by beating Team BAD & Team Bella, and Kevin Owens went over Cesaro.

So there we have it, that has been every Summerslam covered, so how will this years shape up? Will we see any “who booked that” moments?  Who’ll become the first Universal Champion? Will Suplex City or Viperville reign supreme? You can share all your thoughts and the Summerslams from the past with me @mrnebarry and with the whole @sltdwrestling crew on twitter, so please get involved.
