Ronda Rousey’s Role at Wrestlemania 34

It’s been a few weeks now since ‘Rowdy’ Ronda Rousey shocked (well, not entirely) the world and appeared at the Royal Rumble, interrupting winner Asuka’s decision on who she would face at Wrestlemania. This was met me a lot of negative reactions from fans saying that Rousey had ‘stolen’ the moment from ‘The Empress of Tomorrow’.
Rousey didn’t say anything, she simply pointed to the Wrestlemania sign, hinting that she will be a part of WWE’s biggest event.

This past week on Monday Night Raw, General Manager, Kurt Angle, announced that Ronda Rousey would be at the next pay per view event, Elimination Chamber, to officially sign a WWE contract.
So what exactly will be Rousey’s role going into Wrestlemania?

Now the big rumour amongst most fans is that it will be Ronda and a partner against Triple H & Stephanie. I think this would be a terrible idea.
If Rousey is being signed to a full time WWE contract as part of the women’s division, surely she should be in matches that actually mean something to both her and the division. Yes there was that whole angle with Rock/Rousey/Steph/Hunter at Wrestlemania 31, but that will be 3 years ago, and they’ve posted numerous photos with her acting all best friend like lately, so to try and bring that up would be an insult to us all.
Also, if Triple H & Stephanie win, then what? If Ronda and her partner win, then what? Unless they’re going to go down a Superstar v Authority angle again, I don’t think this will work at all.

Another hot rumour is that Rousey will wrestle Charlotte Flair for the Smackdown Women’s Title. Again, this makes no sense as not only is Ronda signed to the Raw brand, giving her no option to challenge for a Smackdown title, but it would make a mockery of the whole Royal Rumble concept, and show that instead of winning a Rumble, or becoming number 1 contender, you simply have to point at a sign to gain a title opportunity.

I like Ronda Rousey, and I’m really excited to see what she can bring to the Women’s Division, I just hope that perhaps at Elimination Chamber we see some sort of angle (which we will), of another Raw Women’s superstar come out and state how Rousey is trying to push ahead of the rankings and get opportunities without putting in the work.
They’d have to be careful doing this, because it would be easy to just ‘feed’ Mandy Rose or Sonya Deville to her, but what good would that do to the work put in with Absolution?
I’d like them to play an angle where Rousey actually EARNS her way into a future title match, somewhere down the line at SummerSlam or Survivor Series. Rousey could put over Banks, Bayley and even Nia Jax to show that the transition from UFC to WWE isn’t so easy. To have Ronda defeat the previously mentioned so soon after debuting would belittle the current Women’s Division, and I could see the fans turning on her very quickly.

So Wrestlemania, what do I want her role to be? I would assume Rousey is being brought in as a face (even thought she’d be an excellent heel), so they need to be careful not to book her too overpowering, because fans will reject it and boo her (the Roman Reigns effect).
In honesty, a Rousey/Banks feud where Sasha won the first two with Rousey winning the third would be great, because it would establish ‘The Boss’ as the superior wrestler overall, but show that Ronda is improving, and fans would be able to get behind her and root for her almost as an underdog.
