SKARLETT – The Bombshell From Hell

This week, I was lucky enough to get the chance to interview Skarlett – The Bombshell from Hell.

Someone who’s fairly new to the wrestling industry, but has already made a name for herself. She’s wrestled for numerous British promotions, but currently works with EWW wrestling and has been shortlisted to take part in TNA’s British Bootcamp 2. Let’s get to the interview!

1621756_529001797233292_1019004785139020916_nDW: Firstly, thank you for taking the time from what I’m sure is a busy schedule to answer some questions for me.

S: No problem at all… just keep it interesting and no one gets hurt…

DW: What brought you to the wrestling industry in 2008?

S: I came along to a training session with my friend at the time. It was a crappy wrestling school run by idiots, but I didn’t know any better. Obviously I do now, which is why I switched and re-trained from scratch. Wrestling and me just seemed to fit. I have drive, fire and motivation to succeed naturally. As a person, I am ambitious so it seemed like it was always on the cards.

DW: You were trained by in-ring veteran “The Dominator”, but was it his training that brought you to the extreme, or was that a natural progression for you?

S: I always had “extreme” leanings I guess, but being re-trained by the Dominator from scratch was the best move of my entire career. I can’t stress how important it is to check the credibility of your training school. I sucked before I met him…in the worst way. Stinking up crowds of 30 at best, and that was a good night, but as I said, I didn’t know better. But as soon as I learned it wasn’t good enough and I wanted to be the best, then I went and I trained with the best.

DW: Is it right that you are willing to take on anybody in the ring, male or female?

S: I have a proven track record of wins against men and women. I even defeated Ex-TNA Bootcamp competitor Marty Scurll in my earlier days, so imagine what I’m capable of now! I love any chance to learn from a better opponent, as much as I love hurting them. Male or female. I don’t discriminate.

DW: I also read that you are in a tag team with your trainer “The Dominator”

S: We have tagged a few times in the past yes, however that came to a halt when we entered into a pretty violent feud with each other. It hurt like crazy, but it made me tougher than I ever thought possible.

DW: What do you think you bring to your matches that makes you able to go toe-to-toe with male wrestlers?

S: I am ruthless, I am clever and if it makes me sound big-headed, I don’t give a crap. When I say I’m one of the BEST submission/technical wrestlers going, it’s true. I don’t back down, and I enjoy chopping the big boys back down to size! You think I care if they have a penis? Hell no!!! Step into MY ring, and I’ll kick your ass. I don’t care who you are or what’s in your pants!

DW: Your nickname is “The Bombshell from Hell”. How did you earn it? Was it your in-ring ability?

S: Absolutely yes it was. My trainer and mentor gave it to me after I beat a 7ft, near-300 pound man. It was of great cost to my fitness and stamina, but I don’t give up and a kick to the head is a kick to the head. If you’re taller, then I’ll just jump higher.

DW: I read that you specialise in casket matches – something we don’t see very often in the UK. Why a casket match?

10593200_523932404406898_3187602390515361692_nS: It was never my intention to have something so specific as a specialty and to be honest, I save it for those feuds that need a definitive END. GAME OVER. I enjoy how humbling it is for an opponent to be beaten so badly they have to be carried away in a casket!! They know they crossed Skarlett and LOST.

I’ve defeated many foes that way, including Phillip Bateman, a man who is a veteran of Extreme World Wrestling and greatly respected, and also Sweet Saraya Knight, so I think everything I just said is completely justified.

DW: Do you have one move in you repertoire that’s your favourite to do?

S: I like all my moves. That’s why I use them. They all are great for hurting and punishing people. If I had to choose, it would be between my finishers – the nasty Axe Kick and “Skarlett’s Web” – a modified bridging double chicken wing submission. They all tap to that bad boy, it don’t matter the size.

DW: A lot of people will know you by your flame-red hair. Do you ever wonder about changing your style and how the fans will react?

S: It’s funny you should say that. I just changed half of it to black. Don’t worry! The reds still there and brighter than ever! The truth is…no, I won’t ever lose the red completely. I just fancied a little change to keep all the blatant sad little Skarlett wannabes on their feet. Lord knows there’s plenty of them.

DW: If you could wrestle anyone, past or present, who would you most like to have a match with?

S: British Legend Klondyke Kate, Awesome Kong and ODB.

DW: While I was doing my research, I spotted something that couldn’t be further away from wrestling. I found a link between you and a cake shop. Do you really own a cake shop or was it just internet rubbish?

S: Nope, that’s completely true. I’m actually not only a champion wrestler, but an award-winning baker too.

Remember how I said I’m driven to succeed and highly motivated with anything I turn my hand to? Well, less than a year ago, I bought a failing sandwich bar and turned it into a cake heaven! The business is now called Skarlett’s – obviously – and despite only being open for 7 months, we have been nominated for Café of the Year and I’m looking to open a second one.

DW: The latest news on you is your connection with TNA’s British Bootcamp. How do you feel about your talent being noted by TNA?

S: I think it’s about time I was noticed. I mean, come on…no-one can do what I can do, and no-one looks as good doing it as I do. It’s also high time someone got a shot that wasn’t the same 6 internet darlings that get spoon-fed their careers. I was noticed, not because I’m a flavour of the week like the rest of them, but because I’m good and I DESERVE THIS OPPORTUNITY!

DW: Can you tell us a little about what is involved?

S: You’ll have to ask me that afterwards as the answer is no. It’s impossible to prepare when you don’t know what to expect, but I always deliver if you keep me on my toes.

10364190_492456454221160_322358172739463435_nDW: How well do you think your in-ring style would translate to an American audience?

S: Incredibly well! I’m unique and fearless. I have an incredibly strong technical background and I’m stupidly proficient in British and submission-style wrestling. But…I can fight, I’ve been known to brawl, and if the situation really calls for it, I will fly. That translates as TOTAL PACKAGE.

DW: TNA are well known for delving into the extreme, as are you. Do you think that helped your involvement?

S: Possibly. I couldn’t guess, but all I can say is if that’s what they want, I’m more than at home with swinging a chair full-force into someone’s face.

DW: I’m sure I can speak for the UK fans by wishing you luck with Bootcamp 2. Do you have a message for your fans?

S: I would just like to say thank you to #teamSkarlett for the support so far. I hope they stick this journey out with me. I’ll do my best to make them proud. Well…prouder than they already are.

DW: Thank you for giving up your time to answer my questions. Hopefully I can catch up with you after your Bootcamp experience and find out a little from behind-the-scenes.

S: That would be nice. Thanks.

Thanks to Skarlett for letting me interview her.
