The Dean Ambrose Era

I have realised over the last six months that WWE have at their disposal potentially one of the biggest superstars ever in Dean Ambrose, the aptly named ‘Lunatic Fringe’ really is a star waiting for the trigger to be pulled on what should hopefully be an amazing career in WWE.

Dean has it all, he can wrestle, brawl, promo, has great ring psychology and is massively engaging when on-screen. He has been fully accepted by the ‘WWE Universe’ and gets arguably one of the biggest reactions from the crowd, but one must wonder why WWE have yet to give Dean his big moment. The man himself brings back memories of other anti-establishment characters such as Steve Austin, Scott Hall and Kevin Nash and Roddy Piper, however although like them Ambrose have carved out a his very own unique individual character which sets him apart from the rest.

Although Seth Rollins received the biggest push after the Shields demise it was Dean who at one point was considered the break out star of the group and many though would prosper most following their inevitable split. Since their split Dean let’s say has had the most erratic career of the original Shield trio, having feuded with Bray Wyatt, Wade Barrett, the whole IC title division, Seth Rollins and now the Wyatt Family again, no matter the situation Dean makes it work. Many would look at his honestly appalling win/loss record in WWE but I really don’t think that matters anymore plus the crowd have always rallied behind.

One also can’t complain at Dean’s always consistent in-ring displays, he is easily one of WWE’s best workers, he can wrestle anyone and have and engaging match. As a far as workers go Dean is exceptional, he can sell for an opponent, he understands ring psychology and knows how to work the crowd to his favour when the time calls for it. Apart from Bray Wyatt I don’t think there is another personality on the roster who can hold a candle to Dean Ambrose on the microphone, he can draw in the audience and progress a feud just by talking. He is a performer that could have been prominent in any era.

There is no doubt that he added extra excitement to the current Roman Reigns/Wyatt Family dispute at Summerlam and Night of Champions, his unpredictable, crazy skills set make every scenario and match that much more meaningful and fun. What did however make this recent feud better has been the talk of a potential Dean Ambrose/Chris Jericho clash in the near future following the teaming up of Reigns, Dean and Y2J at last Sunday’s PPV six man tag. In the aftermath of their loss to the Wyatt’s Chris feeling embarrassed and his pride dented left the ring with a chip on his shoulder, in doing so he brushed shoulders with Dean, surely igniting a feud down the line.

WWE’s handling of Dean Ambrose has been puzzling at times, just when you think they may pull the trigger they slam the breaks on and change his direction, I sometimes think they are just seeing the reaction if ever they gave him the chance on top. During his Spring feud with Seth Rollins, WWE let Dean flirt with the belt after he won it in controversial circumstances, although the result was reversed Dean continued to hold the belt over a three-week period until Seth ‘regained’ it at Money in the Bank. While holding the belt hostage Dean received an awesome reaction wherever he went, the crowd no matter his heelish behaviour loved him.

It does seem however that WWE do know the value of Dean Ambrose, when a match, segment or feud requires an injection of excitement he is the man they dispatch to get the job done. His natural inclusion in Roman Reigns latest feud with the Wyatts was a perfect fit and his crazy antics only added to the excitement throughout the summer months. However on the flip side this is a feud we have seen before, like Roman, Dean has also feuded one on one with Bray and also with the Wyatt’s when as a member of the Shield, how much longer can this feud continue?

The return of Chris Jericho has potentially given Dean his next or biggest feud to date, the finish of the six man at Night of Champions alluded to a future tussle between the two. Although only rumours right now, if this comes to fruition it could give Dean the greenlight his career needs to push him onto that next level. The potential that Dean has is there for all to see, from his high-octane entrance, engaging promo style and frenzied unorthodox ring style, Dean captivates the WWE universe like no other.

Personally I feel WWE have at their disposal arguably one of the biggest star of his generation, If booked correctly now Dean I feel is the perfect fit for the Rumble win and a Wrestlemania main event opportunity, there is no doubt the crowd will rally behind him come the road to Wrestlemania. Make no mistake Dean is a huge talent capable of so much more, we just need WWE to pull the trigger on the ‘Lunatic Fringe’
