TNA Impact: Roundup

Tonight’s episode from February 16th 2016 is heavily laden on the Matt Hardy-EC3 continuation. The dynamic has flipped with the former baby-face, now wrestling as a heel. Why Hardy was built as a resilient champion with values who finally overcame the odds; and then switch him heel for no clear-cut reason is quite confusing. The main story is this feud and the ongoing series of matches. Nothing else outside of this is really clearly defined, or compelling enough for fans to watch and enjoy.

In ring promo’s are increasingly relevant during the tenure on POP-TV. However, promos and too many at that, do not translate for more ratings for TNA. They have an inability to the “hook” and drag method of starting a segment or relevant issue, and “carrying” it over (and while keeping fans intrigued, or “hooked” to see the future developments over the course of the night, or week). TNA is a good “wrestling” show with a awesome roster, but are horrible at storylines and creating new ones for the under-card, who by the way needs more focus and credibility.

In the first match is a KOTM match with Bram and Bobby Roode accompanying their representative combatants and tag partners respectively. EY, Eric Young defended his title and retained it via count-out versus opponent James Storm. Mike Bennett continues his strong run and string of success defeating Mandrews. Is Mandrews a heel or babyface? First he teams with Eli Drake and Jesse Godderz, and now he’s just willy-nilly on his own for this one-on-one contest? Where are the defined characters, and roles that these men employ?

More backstage promo’s really don’t lend to any new storyline or feuds. Its just a mis-mash of segments and comes across as filler. Ogard the Great is really Grado the Great, who was fired in the feast or fired contest. Oh, his name is spelled backwards. How original.. yawn.

The Wolves defeat the Decay who seems to be like a job-squad version of the Social Outcasts- just less entertaining and less “over” by the mainstream audience. Gail Kim and Madison Rayne team up for a victory over the Dollhouse in Knockouts competition.

Shera in a silly tag team match and quite pointless teams with “Odarg” to win over Drake and Godderz. In the main event features a tag team match of Tyrus and Matt Hardy versus Spud and EC3. The babyface tandem win their bout to close the show, and hype Lockdown for next week.
