Tybo Talks… Five Wrestlers Who Could Improve #205Live

Welcome once again to Tybo Talks! I am Tybo, and I’m sure by now you know that I am the ‘Five Star General’ of this operation we call SLTD Wrestling.

Last week I wrote a piece about the ‘Five Ways to Improve 205Live’ which you can READ HERE , it’s clear that the show does not have the following that WWE were hoping it would. One of the ideas I had to make it stronger was to fill out the roster a little with some names that have a solid fan base in WWE already. Here are the five wrestlers that are (almost) all already in WWE that could make the jump to Tuesday nights and help turn 205 Live from a ‘C Show’ to a brand.

Gregory ‘Hurricane’ Helms I have already mentioned that I think it would really help 205 Live if they have an authority figure, and who better for the position than the longest reigning Cruiserweight Championship Gregory ‘Hurricane’ Helms. Helms has recently been working in Impact Wrestling in an agent role but they have recently parted ways. This makes Helms a free agent, and he could potentially return to WWE.

Obviously, Helms wouldn’t return in a wrestling capacity (although I have no doubt he can still do it) but returning in a GM role could be a great move. With Helms’ cruiserweight history, he could easily fit the role and could potentially be a great heel GM (something missing in WWE right now). The idea of him coming in and wanting to ‘Make 205 Great Again’ but no one is a better cruiserweight champion than him and it could be an interesting story to see play out.

Oney Lorkin (190lbs) Oney Lorkin has been on NXT for a while now, but he is still an up and comer. He hasn’t had any major feuds to speak of but that doesn’t mean he hasn’t made an impact. Lorkin has an intensity and aggression like few NXT mid-carders have, given the opportunity Lorkin could work some great matches with the 205 Live roster.

Oley Lorkin’s in ring style reminds me of a young Jamie Noble, Noble was a great cruiserweight champion back in the early 2000’s but he was not the high-flyer like others in the division. The same could be said for Lorkin, and with this aggression and ground based, hard-hitting style he could really stand out on 205 Live.

Johnny Gargano (199lbs) Although a lot of fans will think Gargano is ‘too good for 205’ this to me is a no brainer. There is no denying the popularity of ‘Johnny Wrestling’ and to add that love from the crowd to Tuesday nights could really help the show grow into a brand.

Johnny Gargano is a perfect fit for the classic cruiserweight division, he has all the attributes you would want in a cruiserweight champion, he also has the high-flying ability to create some much see moments, as you have seen in NXT. I don’t think it’s an out of this world statement to say that Gargano could change the face of 205 Live, and undoubtedly get more fans watching the product.

Hideo Itami (182lbs) Since coming to the WWE Hideo Itami has had a bit of bad luck with regards to injuries, but Itami is a huge worldwide talent and I believe if he wasn’t injured for so long he would have already won the NXT Championship and would probably already be on the main roster by now. Unfortunately, this is not the case, but his next step could be 205 Live.

Hideo Itami could add some more international flair to the cruiserweight division, and create some great feuds with the roster. Itami is the perfect size for 205 Live, and is another guy who doesn’t need to use the high-flying style. He is his own ‘strong’ style that would work well with the likes of Neville.

Roderick Strong (200lbs) Roderick Strong is one of the most loved, up and comers in NXT right now, the crowd have really got behind him since they have learnt his back story, and what he is about. This depth of a character is something lacking in 205 Live right now, and his presence could really help the evolution from a show to a brand.

I personally think Strong would be great in the cruiserweight division, his style of wrestling would work well in that environment, although he is not a great high-flyer his in ring technical work is hard to fault. Maybe in the future he may become NXT Champion, but I think the jump to Tuesday nights could be great for him and his future.

Best of the Rest. Although I said that that this would be about five wrestlers who could make 205 Live better, there are a few more who could fit the cruiserweight mould. First and more obvious would be Tomasso Champa(201lbs), if both former members of DIY made the jump and continued their feud on 205 Live, this could really get fans watching. Again, an obvious pick would be James Ellsworth(175lbs). I don’t think he would get a huge number of fans to follow him to 205, but he is great on the mic, and he is a natural heel. Sin Cara(205lbs) would also be on the list. Cara has already spent some time in the cruiserweight division, and one more lucha is never bad.

There are the five (well eight) wrestlers who I think could add to the excitement, growth and audience of 205Live, but who do you think could add some much needed freshening up to the cruiserweight division?
