Raw Revisited 25th August: Ugh With A Side Of Ugh

Raw was bad. And not the typical kind of bad that you can just ignore and use the “wait and see where it goes” mantra. It was just bad.

John Cena Talks Down To Old People

I guess John forgot the respect part of “Hustle, Loyalty, Respect” tonight huh? This was just a train wreck of a segment, only saved by the fact that it was mildly amusing seeing Shawn Michaels and Ric Flair on either side of Hogan, a man they both despise with so much passion! A couple of notes before we move on:

  • Hogan needs to get off Cena’s balls!
  • Hogan talking about knowing when to hang up the boots is the most ironic statements in the history of the English language.
  • Shawn Michaels is still in great shape and needs to come back and do what he does best!

Cesaro Is BACK

This is the kind of Cesaro I can get behind. The one that emphatically wins matches, has a cocky air about him because of that, and is doing something semi-meaningful instead of losing matches to Kofi Kingston every week. The match between he and Rob Van Dam wasn’t anything special but Cesaro getting an impactful win over an established guy like Van Dam is important and him being number 1 contender for the US title means we get another hoss fight between Cesaro and Sheamus on pay per view and thats never a bad thing.

Everything About This Is Wrong

So last week Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins put on the best Raw main event in quite some time and it was used to write Dean off TV to go shoot some movie. That’s fine. This week, they had a eulogy for Ambrose and that’s fine. Then Roman Reigns comes out and things get bad, FAST!

Roman taking Dean’s spot in the feud with Rollins may make sense from a storytelling perspective but that isn’t why they are doing it. They are doing it for 2 reasons:

  1. To give Roman something to do while Brock is champ
  2. To take all of Dean Ambrose’s momentum and transfer it to Roman because Dean got over organically and they need to shove Roman down all our throats to get him to a level they want.

I hate this John Cena 2.0 bullshit and it will backfire on them in the long run. The reason guys like Stone Cold, The Rock and Bret Hart were so popular was because they were great wrestlers who won matches, but they also lost matches just as much, thus proving that they were vulnerable and capable of looking weak. We don’t need another John Cena, we’ve had 12 years of it and we want more. We also want more than 1 guy at the top of the mountain. All 3 members of The Shield along with countless others, could easily be placed in a top tier position and lead the company. Roman can be the de-facto #1 guy but there needs to be more guys up there to challenge him and to carry the weight as well, its 2014 and we demand more from you WWE!

Bad Dust

What do you know, the dust brothers did something interesting on TV and it had nothing to do with cosmic keys! The problem with this is, I just don’t see them getting the titles at any point and this was only really done to give The Uso’s a team to face that aren’t the Wyatt’s!

Never Give Up, You Underdog You!

You might notice I just skipped most of Raw. Like I said, it was terrible, so lets just skip all of that and get to the absolute WORST part of the show. John Cena basically squashing Bray Wyatt just like Lesnar did to Cena at Summerslam. Wholly un-original, utterly terrible and a perfect example of why Cena may be walking out of Night of Champions as a 16 time champion.

This show made me want to take a hiatus from WWE for a while until they get their shit together and realise that Cena is not the be all and end all and that squashing someone like Wyatt does a lot more damage than squashin Heath Slater or someone at that level.

So you heard it here first, I am officially on break from WWE for a while.
