Smackdown Triple Trio: Rasslin Roundup

Rasslin Roundup and Wrestling fans, let’s take a look back at some previous episodes of Smackdown; and catch up on this action. We will start with the April 7th episode:

The first Smackdown post-Wrestlemania brings a variation of the April 4th RAW main event. New number one contender AJ Styles teams with Cesaro versus their former opponents (from Monday) in Kevin Owens and Chris Jericho for this SD main event.

Both Reigns and Styles took their time to address the audience respectively in their own promo’s that opened up the show; and drummed up the hype of their eventual encounter. The Vaudevillians in Simon Gotch and Aiden English were promoted from NXT and made their Smackdown debut. They defeated the Lucha Dragons of Sin Cara and U.S. champion Kalisto.

In other action, the Miz who is new IC champion drummed up his rematch with former champion Zach Ryder tonight. Fans will recall, Miz’ wife Maryse had an effect in the outcome which led her husband to win the title again. Miz defeated Ryder in what should’ve been a wonderful underdog moment and champion- given Ryder’s popularity as well. Instead, The Miz with his Skull-Crushing Finale defeated Ryder on both Raw and on this night to retain the title. Natalya also won her match via submission versus Summer Rae.

Video promos of the Goldust-R-Truth segment were shown, along with the Baron Corbin package which included his Wrestlemania win and battle with Dolph Ziggler from RAW. Apollo Crews also made his Smackdown debut and defeated Curtis Axel of the Social Outcast. Fallout from the women’s triple-threat match and title picture from Mania were discussed. Becky Lynch was featured in a backstage promo and digressed.

In the last matches of this airing, Dean Ambrose defeated Tyler Breeze in a singles exhibition. The tandem of Cesaro and Styles, despite being opponents two nights earlier- won their tag team bout versus Owens and Jericho.

Now, Rasslin Roundup will take you back and relive the hype leading up to Mania. This second episode of Smackdown is from March 31st; and we look at the feuds and build up to where the stars were before the Granddaddy of them All.

Dean Ambrose defeated Erick Rowan with a Dirty Deeds DDT, en route to losing to Lesnar at Mania. In other action, D-Von Dudley defeated Jimmy Uso in singles action; and leading up to the Uso victory at Mania; and subsequent loss to the Dudley’s on April 4th RAW in a table match.

AJ Styles defeated Heath Slater of the Social Outcast with a Phenomenal Forearm to win the match.

Therefore, three matches on the March 31st showing, with many other hype videos and segments mostly to promote Wrestlemania and those feuds, matches on the Mania card.

March 24th from Boston led to the Brock Lesnar appearance as the special attraction to close out the show; promoting the Dean Ambrose Mania match. The show opened though with a heel promo from Ric Flair and his daughter, the now-Women’s champion Charlotte.

Subsequently, the first match led to Sasha Banks being heralded as the next future champ by defeating Charlotte in a non-title match. However, as we all know now, Charlotte regained at Mania. The New Day comes out with a promo, but Kofi is defeated by Sheamus of the League of Nations.

In other action, the Uso’s defeat the Ascension with a message by using tables to rub it Dudley’s and drum up their Mania match; albeit on the kick-off. This was led to the counterpoint rebuttal with Renee Young interviewing the Dudley’s backstage.

Sami Zayn and Dolph Ziggler defeated the then IC champion Kevin Owens and his partner, Miz in tag team action.

In the main events of the evening, Roman Reigns defeated Bubba Ray Dudley in a singles match after their altercation from the previous RAW. AJ Styles closed the wrestling side of the show and defeated Tyler Breeze with a Phenomenal Forearm.
