United States Championship – What’s the point?

Hey Everyone and welcome to another Wrestle Chica!! I am the First Lady of SLTD Wrestling and wanted to start with saying sorry I haven’t been around for a while! Hopefully you have been missing me as much as I have been missing getting my views out there so here I am!

So what has pushed me back into writing I hear you all ask! Honestly it’s the United States Championship and how much it has gone to a very none title since John Cena lost it and even worse since Kalisto won it.

When Kalisto first won the title I was genuinely happy for him. I thought the title was perfect for him and would really give him a push that he deserved but unfortunately we haven’t seen any of this! It seems to be that since Kalisto won the championship we have barely seen it and have had no real rivalry built up with anyone since Alberto Del Rio moved on to something else. When Cena held the title he changed how people saw it and changed people’s perspective of the title. Let’s be honest for a while it hasn’t really been a title people take seriously but that all changed when we had the John Cena United States Championship Open Challenge. The whole unknown of who was going to answer the challenge, not knowing what surprises we were in store for, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn to name just two, had people excited about this title! It helped to take it back to what is use to be and back to meaning something! As well as giving people the opportunity to have a championship match.

This title use to mean a lot and if you won it you were on your way to being the main guy with the title everyone wanted when it was in WCW and even when it first moved to WWE. If you look at it now it feels like WWE are not that overly concerned about it and will put it on anyone just so it changes hands every now and again. John Cena was the champ not even a year ago yet but you look at it now and it was relegated to the pre show of WrestleMania and even worse THE FIRST MATCH!! Total Divas vs BAD and Blonde was on AFTER it! Let that just sink in for a while!

To me this was a complete insult to the title and I just don’t understand how WWE think that was a worthy spot for a Championship match! It shouldn’t matter what the championship is these matches should be main card worthy! They should be making everyone forget whats going on around them and not want to miss anything. After all a champion is all about showing that you are better than the rest and to have this on the pre show  just doesn’t show this, it shows more that they are just trying to fill time. Plus they are all set to do it again this Sunday at Payback, the United States Championship match is again going to be on the pre show and again against Ryback without any kind of build up. They have had barely two matches since Wrestlemania and have not had any build up to this match again.

I feel that the United States Championship has lost all credibility it has ever had at the moment. We need someone like John Cena back as the champion to give it the boost it needs, we need someone to walk round holding this championship as it was the World Heavyweight Championship but only past champions can do this to help to give it credibility again. To do this though what happens when they are no longer the champion? Are we back here with it being given to anyone with no thought and having no build up what so ever?

I understand that there are various different titles and that they all need to be in the spotlight but is it really that hard to find the balance to this? It always seems to be that when one is in the spotlight the other doesn’t really get any airtime and it makes me think is there really a point to having two other titles? If they only ever focus on one additional title (either US or IC) at a time why have them both? If you look at last weeks RAW Kalisto wasn’t even on it! Not in a tag team match, not in a singles match, not even in a video building up his “rivalry” with Ryback for a title match they are having this Sunday!! However the IC title had a whole segment and the rivalry between The Miz and Ceasro is at it’s highest which is exactly what you want going into a PPV.

I think WWE need to make a decision and remove one of them. This way they are able to concentrate better on the additional title and give it the time and effort it needs to show that whoever the champion is deserves it and is worthy of being that champion. With things heading the way they are at the moment it could even make more sense , if there was a brand split, to move one of the titles over to be exclusively on Smackdown to bring back that credibility and help to have focus on both of them rather than just bringing them back to what they were originally introduced for!

Thank you for taking the time out to read this. Do you have any thoughts on the United States Championship or even the Intercontinental Championship? Let me know in the comments below!
