The Voice of Reason: Royal Rumble 2016 Dream Returns

A couple of weeks ago, I ran through a list of potential returns to the forthcoming Royal Rumble match. I tried to make my choices as “realistic” as possible to maximise gloating rights if and when they potentially happen. This week however, I become a dreamer. So let’s run through a few dream returns I would want to see at the Royal Rumble.

CM Punk
Well why not start with the most realistic dream return – I say most realistic as he (unlike my other two choices) has not officially retired. However it is worth noting he probably has less chance of returning that anyone right now.

So why CM Punk? Well personally he has been one of my favourite wrestlers over the last decade or so. I honestly believed him to be the person he was branded to be, and that is the best in the world. Nobody could beat him on the microphone, and very few could out wrestle him in the ring. Right now, he is what they are missing everyday, and no more so than ever. With Orton, Bryan, Rollins, Cena and Cesaro all out, this would have been a shoe in for Punk to headline WrestleMania, and therefore shining at the Rumble.

Shawn Michaels
Who would not want to see the greatest in ring performer in WWE history back for one more match? Michaels could have a match on a WWE Live Event and I would still watch.

The fans have been screaming and chanting for Michaels to have one more match ever since his retirement, because he would literally stop the show. His performances at WrestleMania where nothing short of heroic and legendary, and it was also carried from the Rumble. And maybe, just maybe his return could setup a dream match of Daniel Bryan vs. Shawn Michaels.

I guess I have nothing else to say other than “please come back Shawn!!!”

Stone Cold Steve Austin
Last, but by no means least, the rattlesnake! WWE would literally go to the ends of the earth for Austin to have one more match. In fact, one of the most memorable and exciting moments of 2015 was when Austin laid down a classic promo on his podcast to Paul Heyman about Brock Lesnar. One which we later found out that was not even meant to happen.

Austin is one of the few people that can raise hell and no one else can do it the same. Brock Lesnar is another in the same league and with Brock in the Rumble, we could set up perfectly for a Mania match of Austin against Lesnar.

All of these three wrestlers have been my most missed since their respective departures. Let’s hope we see them – although I can all but guarantee that they will not return.

Back to reality. Til next time.
