Davies Dungeon: Perfect Ending To Raw

Welcome to the dungeon!

There are certain moments that make you proud to be a wrestling fan. Those moments that make you want to jump up and cheer along when you’re sat at home, watching on TV. They may be few and far between these days, or so it seems, but this past Monday on Raw we had one of those moments.

The ending to Raw was phenomenal. Once again it was Daniel Bryan who stole the show as he had the entire audience on their feet in unison chanting YES! From the moment he pushed Bray Wyatt off to avoid the Sister Abigail, you could feel the anticipation in the crowd just wanting him to take his revenge on Wyatt.

Every time I sit down to write this blog, the first superstar that comes to mind is always Daniel Bryan and there is a simple reason for that – he is the true face of the company right now.

He controlled the fans in the arena on Raw, starting off slowly with the ‘YES!’ chants and building it up faster, the crowd were simply hypnotised by Bryan.

Thankfully the WWE decided to end his involvement as a member of the Wyatt family quickly. Maybe that was the plan all along, but it seems doubtful. The WWE Universe simply never wanted to see him as a heel. This whole storyline has seemed intriguing at times, however there were so many flaws in it, which meant that no-one took it seriously as a big feud.

It served its purpose in getting Bray Wyatt over by feuding with one of the top stars in the company, but right now Daniel Bryan should be in the hunt for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. He doesn’t have the typical build or look that the WWE usually looks for in a champion, but there hasn’t been anyone more over with the fans since Stone Cold Steve Austin – not even John Cena!

Seeing the fans chant along and cheer Daniel Bryan is the reason I tune in every week. The WWE need moments like that because it keeps us interested and entertained. When I tune into Raw, I don’t want to see an average ending to the show. I want to see something that will make me come back the next week, and to see something that will keep me talking about Raw.

This past week was a perfect example of how Raw should end every week.

When we think back to the Attitude Era, there was always a reason for us to keep tuning in week after week. The unpredictability, the violence, the shock-factor – these things were all a big part of that era and we never knew what we were going to see when we watched.

Times have changed though and maybe the WWE isn’t as violent and unpredictable as it used to be. Quite often, we hear the word boring to describe the current product. That means it’s the perfect time to use Daniel Bryan to his full potential because he has an undeniably strong bond with the WWE Universe.

The image of Bryan sitting on top of the cage with the entire audience backing him by chanting one simple word should be the wake-up call the WWE needs to push him back into the main-event picture. I’d even be happy to see John Cena win the championship if it meant him defending against Daniel Bryan – like he said he would before TLC.

I’ll definitely be tuning in to Raw next week – simply to see Daniel Bryan.

My final thought has to go to the legendary Mae Young who sadly passed away on Tuesday. She brought me many fun memories growing up during the Attitude Era. No doubt she was one of the toughest women ever to lace up a pair of boots, if not the toughest. I’ll always remember watching Raw with my nanna and seeing the Dudley Boyz put Mae through a table from the stage, and the look on my nanna’s face.

R.I.P Mae Young – thank you for the memories.
