Davie’s Dungeon: What Will It Take?

Welcome to the dungeon!

As I still haven’t tuned in to any WWE programming over the last few weeks, I have been thinking about what it would take to get me interested in the product again. I never thought I would’t care about not watching but I am just not interested right now.

There’s a few factors which I look for when I tune in to watch RAW or a PPV. First of all I look at the crowd and how they are reacting to the action. The live audience can make or break a show, no matter how good or bad it is.

Chicago, New York and London are cities which usually guarantee a pumped up and vocal crowd. No matter what is going on in the ring, they always find ways of entertaining themselves. Some people are sick of the random chants now but sometimes the audience need to keep themselves awake during a 3 hour show, especially when the WWE is so inconsistent with their product.

When the WWE are producing a great show and the fans get involved in the storylines, it can make the WWE seem like the greatest entertainment show on earth. It helps the fans at home as it keeps the viewers from channel surfing. If the live crowd are into the action, the better it is for those watching on TV.

Quite often though, the audience can seem flat, uninterested and bored. No matter how good the action is, a quiet audience can really damage the product. For me personally, a quiet audience makes me want to turn off.

Sometimes the WWE can do everything they possibly can to pump up the crowd but they aren’t going to do it every week, especially when America is used to seeing the WWE live.

After crowd participation, the next thing I look at is how many pointless segments are taking place in one show.

I have always disliked segments which are done just to be funny. Hornswoggle, El Torito, 3MB – these are a few reasons I have turned off. Thankfully we won’t have to sit through anymore 3MB squash matches.

I would rather see segments or matches that are used to develop a character or a rivalry. I can deal with one or two pointless segments but when there is 3 hours to fill, the WWE seems to have a problem in using the time to their advantage.

Another of my main problems is the lack of lower to mid-card feuds. There seems to be too much focus on the main-event scene that the WWE is failing the rest of the talent. Feuds seem to come and go and the majority of them are pointless.

No matter who is on the show, I want to be interested in their storyline and I want to follow the story. I can’t sit and watch two superstars wrestle week after week without a back-up story. If I don’t care, I won’t watch.

So for me to start watching the WWE again soon, I need to feel like there is excitement so the crowd can participate in the show. I don’t want to sit through pointless shit that is going to waste my time and I would like a reason why certain superstars are feuding so I can care.

I know this is all wishful thinking but I am hoping I can get interested in the WWE again soon but right now I just can’t handle sitting through a 3 hour RAW show or PPV.
