Davie’s Dungeon: WWE Hall Of Fame 2014

Welcome to the dungeon!

I’m going to be positive this week – but not about the current product. I don’t understand what the hell is going on week after week on Raw, and that’s all I got to say about that! Instead, I’m going to talk about the 2014 WWE Hall of Fame. I know everyone always talks about it and it gets annoying sometimes, but I’d just like to give a few opinions on who I would like to see inducted next year.

Sable

sablehofThe former Diva is number 1 on my list. She’s my all-time favourite Diva, so I may be a little biased, but she transformed the Divas division. Sunny was the original Diva, however Sable took it to another level. She may not have been the greatest female wrestler – far from it – but when was the last time a Diva got an ovation like Sable used to?

A former WWF Women’s Champion, Slammy winner and multiple-time Playboy cover girl, she was able to mix it up in the ring with greats such as Luna and Jacqueline. According to Kevin Nash, Sable even had WCW worried in the ratings war, which shows what star power she had – not even the Nitro Girls could compare to her!

Even though her second run in the WWE wasn’t as great as her first, she will definitely go down in history as a Diva who changed the way women were represented in wrestling. Without a doubt, Sable is one of the greatest Divas in the history of the business.

Macho Man Randy Savage

machomanhofI know there have been rumours about why Savage hasn’t been inducted into the Hall Of Fame yet, but his place there is long overdue. His match at WrestleMania 3 with Ricky Steamboat was one of the greatest matches in history and he has inspired so many superstars who came along after him.

During a time when the WWF/E was full of outlandish characters, Macho Man stood out above them all. His catchphrase is still heard in arenas around the world and his moves are duplicated out of respect. Creating one of the most memorable tag-teams of all time alongside Hulk Hogan, Randy Savage was always at the top of his game and gave everything he had to entertain the fans.

It’s great that we still hear ‘Randy Savage’ chants on Raw these days and rightfully so. Personally, I think Macho Man is the one person left who truly deserves a place in the Hall Of Fame.

Owen Hart

owenhofOne of the most entertaining and exciting superstars ever to step foot in a ring, Owen was truly an uncrowned champion. He’s one of those wrestlers you knew could make it to the top, but sadly it wasn’t to be. Along with his brother Bret, they had one of the greatest WrestleMania matches of all-time at WrestleMania 10.

My favourite faction has always been the Hart Foundation. Bret, Owen, Jim Neidhart and The British Bulldog were amazing heels, but even greater heroes whenever they appeared in Canada. In 1997, their feuds with Shawn Michaels, Triple H and Steve Austin were unforgettable. Hopefully one day, we will see Owen inducted into the Hall Of Fame. I just wish it could be next year.

The Ultimate Warrior

warriorhofAs soon as the first few notes of his music hit, the crowd went wild. His energy was electrifying and he looked amazing. There was no doubt he was going to be a big player in the industry and he would be the one for Hulk Hogan to pass the torch to. What an unbelievable moment it was when he beat Hogan at WrestleMania 6 – one of the greatest moments in ‘Mania history.

We never thought Vince McMahon would ever welcome The Ultimate Warrior back to the WWE like he did on Twitter. It may have only been a tweet, but it was huge and almost shocking to see Warrior play such a huge part in the release of the WWE 2K14 video game. Obviously, Vince does know what’s “best for business” when it really matters. If it doesn’t happen at the 2014 Hall of Fame, I think it’s only a matter of time before he’s inducted. And rightly so.

The Undertaker

takerhofWrestleMania 30 should be where it comes to an end for the Deadman. The biggest show in history would be a rightful place for the living legend to bring his unforgettable career to a close. Many people seem to think he can go on forever, but I feel that if he keeps appearing only once a year, then it will slowly lose its magic.

The Undertaker came at the perfect time when the WWF was full of cartoon characters and thankfully, it worked. Nothing like that would work in the WWE today. My favourite Undertaker moment isn’t a specific moment, but it was when he was the Lord of Darkness leading the Ministry. He was able to get away with some amazing things, like crucifying Steve Austin and hanging the Big Boss Man from the top of the cell at WrestleMania 15.

Over the years, his in-ring skills have improved a lot and now, his matches at WrestleMania are always the most talked about once ‘Mania is over. I think The Undertaker should be the next superstar to be inducted into the Hall Of Fame as an active performer – like Ric Flair – and he should have his last match at WrestleMania 30.

There may only be 5 people on my list, but that’s because I think some of the past classes have been overcrowded and if less people are inducted each year, it would mean more. If these superstars were inducted into the WWE Hall Of Fame in 2014, it would be the biggest induction ceremony of all-time.
