Hello, everyone, and welcome to another edition of ‘Fantasy Fight Friday’, SLTD Wrestling’s one stop shop for professional wrestling’s most intriguing dream matches. This week we are looking at two superstars who have personas that are not quite the norm in regular life, but would make them perfect to face off against each other. Today, we put these two other worldly wrestlers against one another, as we see Finn Bálor and The Undertaker go head to head in a dream match for the ages.
In one corner we have ‘The Demon’ Finn Bálor. Bálor came from Ireland to become a sensation in Japan. Upon his arrival in NXT he quickly made a name for himself as a top player. Bálor has found success as the current NXT Champion, but that wouldn’t be possible without ‘The Demon’ that lives inside him. Whenever Bálor has a big match to head into, he always lets The Demon take over and usually comes out on top, this is usually shown by the insanely artistic face and body paint he will cover himself in when he is going to war.
In the other corner we have ‘The Phenom’ The Undertaker. Undertaker has reigned over the dark side of the WWE for over two decades, first appearing at the 1990 Survivor Series, where the landscape of the WWE would change drastically. The Deadman has held almost every title in the WWE multiple times, and has the best win/loss record in WrestleMania history. He’s been ‘The Deadman’, ‘The American Badass’, ‘The Phenom’ and doesn’t show signs of stopping, constantly reinventing himself for new opponents. It seems impossible to ‘kill what wont die’.
It goes without saying that these two larger than life wrestlers would surely go to the depths of hell to decide the winner of this match, but who would come out victorious?
SLTD Wrestling’s Adam O’Brien, author of ‘Under the Spotlight’ gives his thoughts.
“This is the definition of a modern day dream match. The two men may look different on paper, especially looking at Finn Bálor as the man from my own home of Ireland, who gave everything, leaving his family and friends to go to Japan and make a name for himself as arguably the best professional wrestler alive today. But when that paint goes on and Finn goes into business mode, these two men suddenly become very alike, with Bálor’s demonic, sadistic side being one of few personas on the current roster that could match the ferocity of The Undertaker.
Their entrances aren’t just a showcase. It’s a representation of the intimidation and aggression that they bring to the ring when the time is right. I’ve experienced The Undertaker’s entrance live at WrestleMania and there is nothing fake about it. I still feel chills to this day. I’ve only seen Bálor without the paint, but even then he brings something unprecedented to the table, and it is truly a thrilling phenomenon.
Finn Bálor is very well capable of being the next Undertaker-like superstar in WWE, whose name could be uttered for decades to come as one of the greatest performers of all time, both in and out of the ring. But could he prove himself against ‘The Deadman’ himself? After all, it is still his yard.
If I absolutely had to pick a winner, and as hard as it is, I would have to go with Finn Bálor. No matter the era, no matter the venue, this match would be almost too close to call, but I feel like Finn Bálor has more to prove, and and introduction to Finn’s equally spine-tingling display may shake Undertaker’s confidence. I love both men to bits, but Finn would pick up the pinfall after an emphatic coup de grace win the biggest match of his career.”
