Raw Revisited 02nd June: Damn Architects!

So, that happened eh? Of all the swerves in all the stories, I think this was the most likely one to shock people as no-one anticipated it. Everyone assumed Dean Ambrose would be the one to turn on his buddies because a) they heavily implied it months ago and b) he’s the “lunatic fridge” (yes I wrote fridge on purpose). At a push, people may have thought Roman Reigns would join as a big muscle bound replacement for Batista but that was a far left option!

The Royal Wave

This will be a quick column this week as I have pretty much no time, so all I want to say about this segment is how hilarious the Batista queen wave was:

Seriously, just look at that for hours, it will be better than Raw was as a whole!

Daddy Cena Has Cena-Nuff

It was only a matter of time before WWE and Vince McMahon decided that Cena had to get involved in the major story. In fact, don’t be surprised if Cena becomes the new 3rd member of The Shield as soon as the ratings for the final segment dip. This was just plain awful between the sexism, the boob job jokes, and Cena being his usual awful self.

Stephanie is still the best heel in the company hands down and she literally has a smart and logical response to everything you throw at her. She is her fathers daughter and I always want to see more of her. Cena can, to quote a great man, “fuck off”.

The biggest thing to come out of this segment was the fact that if Daniel Bryan is cleared to compete at Money in the Bank, he will face off against Kane in a “stretcher” match. If not, the Money in the Bank ladder match will be for the title instead of a title shot. It’s adds an interesting aura of mystery to the next couple of weeks leading to the PPV, and it also raises the stakes for all the people who qualify for the ladder match. Good idea by WWE, one of the few they have at the moment.

BREAKING NEWS: Cena faces man he beaten a billion times in “hard fought” match

The only thing I can say for this match (because it’s the umpteenth time its happened) is that at least they didn’t have Cena win. Getting Kane disqualified was the smart play because if (and that’s a big if) Daniel Bryan is ready for Money in the Bank, he needs to be kept looking somewhat credible going into it.

They couldn’t just leave it at the DQ though, they had to have Cena overcome Kane’s post match attack and rise above cancer and diabetes and herpes, and every other know thing that can get him.

Why was this non-title? And why was it not at Payback?

This one was weird. It was a good match with a decisive ending, but I can’t understand why they didn’t just have it at Payback, especially when you had Cody and Goldust vs Rybaxel on there, or at least have it be for the titles to add something more to it. Just weird.

This does however put Rowan and Harper (who gets better by the week) first in line for a title shot which I am hugely in favour of. Give Bray a mid card title and its Shield 2.0.

Zig Zag To Nowhere

This, I just don’t understand. You have a ladder match with multiple participants, you need some high flying bump machines in there. Who do you go for? Del Rio? Are you kidding? Dolph Ziggler belongs in that match, just for the sheer entertainment value. He doesn’t have to win, but he can look awesome in defeat and be elevated by it. But it looks like he will be relegated to live-tweeting the PPV now.

Del Rio is close to retirement so he probably won’t be winning this one, so it will be interesting to see who else qualifies for it. I personally hope Cesaro is in it, and wins!

“Putin” Rusev On A Pedestal

See what I did there? Anyway. This was a weird segment (one of many it seems) in that it went completely un-interrupted by anyone. The point of these segments is usually to have a face character to crash the party and make ol’ USA look good again!

I will never get tired of Lana’s legs though (see above) so I can’t complain too much.

The Architect Knocks The House Down

This was shocking. There really isn’t anything I can say that hasn’t already been said, so I will just let Dean Ambrose convey my feelings on it.

Yep, that pretty much sums it up.

I can’t say I’m overly enthusiastic about Rollin’s being the guy to join Evolution (if that is indeed what is happening) for a number of reasons, but the one positive out of this is that it puts Rollins in the spotlight. He is often the afterthought of The Shield. Reigns is the powerhouse with the good looks, Ambrose is the lunatic fridge or the titty master depending on who you ask, and Rollins is just kind of there. If this leads to him getting a huge spotlight and a bunch of great singles matches, then I am all for it!

For now, I’m adopting a “wait and see where it goes” attitude, much like I do with everything half decent that happens in WWE.

That’s gonna do it for this week. See y’all next week.

Peace.
