Remember Your Local

Just throwing this out there, how many of our readers attend your local promotion, or promotions that visit the area?

There are often three or four promotions that will be around your area, or within a short amount of travel. In my small town alone we have the guys at Welsh Wrestling who appear in the area twice a year during their travel throughout Wales. We have Dragon Pro Wrestling that is based a 15 minute drive away, then about a 30 minute drive away is an up and coming company called Monmouthshire Pro Wrestling.

So why am I writing about this? Well the fact is people don’t seem to remember that these local shows are where the stars of tomorrow start out. By attending you also help these guys out as you put money in their pockets to chase their dreams and they also all do their own bit for local charities, can’t imagine many people know that.

By attending these local shows I have got to meet Stevie Starr who had a stint in WWE Developmental in 2012, and Mason Ryan who wrestling fans will all have heard of, and even got to have a chat with these guys who have seen what it’s like in the big leagues. How often do you realistically get a chance to meet ‘stars’? WWE comes to town twice a year, and then you’re lucky if they come anywhere near your area at times.

These local companies are also starting to appeal to stars that are making their name across the pond.  Within in the last year Robbie E of TNA fame has appeared for Welsh Wrestling, and there’s too many to mention that have appeared for companies such as ICW in Scotland and PCW in Preston.

So the burning question now is, the next time a local show appears close to you will you take a few hours to support the guys or will you just sit at home and continue to put money into the current product we get to see week in week out? I know which i’ll be doing, the answer is both.
