SLTD Predicts: #AEWRevolution (@MikeJC821 | @callumowen98)

Hello everyone some of Team SLTD have gotten together again for predictions for tonight’s AEW Revolution PPV, we have nine matches and an announcement from Paul Wight to get into, so let’s hop straight in with the ‘Buy-In’…

Predicting:
The Wrestling Brain – TWB
Mouthing Off – MO

The Buy-In
Riho and Thunder Rosa Vs Dr Britt Baker and Rebe(l)

TWB: This to me feels like your typical pre-show match, to get fans excited and invested for the rest of the PPV, and usually when that’s the case, the baby-face team will get the victory, however, I think this time around it should be the heels. Britt Baker should already be the AEW Women’s Champion and I was very surprised when she didn’t even reach the final of the AEW Women’s Championship Eliminator Tournament, to give some momentum going forward she should pin former Women’s Champion Riho.
Winners – Dr Britt Baker and Rebel

MO: I don’t know why this match is happening, at all, there’s been no interaction between any of these people on anything as far as I know and this is not the time to continue the Rosa/Baker feud at all.

They did the women’s tournament completely wrong and didn’t have Rosa or Baker in the finals winning the belt which was the logical way to continue this feud, there’s also talk that Rebel isn’t cleared, which might be for the best because as we’ve seen she isn’t good in the ring and there’s speculation of a surprise replacement, who that could be is very hard to call but I could see it being a debuting Thea Trinidad (Zelina Vega) but if that happens they need to win, preferably by pinning Riho whose had her time to shine and doesn’t need to be protected right now.
Winner: Britt Baker & Rebel (or TBA)

Casino Tag Team Battle Royale
Winners to Receive Future Tag Team Title Opportunity

TWB: There are too many teams in this match to remember and write down, but I’d say the favourites have to be PAC and Rey Fenix or Santana and Ortiz.

There’s a possibility that based on what happens in the Tag Title Match, later on, we could see the Inner Circle clash in the near future, should Jericho and MJF became new champions, and Santana and Ortiz win this one, which furthers the tension between the faction.

That being said am going for PAC and Rey Fenix for the victory, it seems for now that PAC is staying out of the title picture in the singles division, so a run alongside Fenix would be fresh and exciting, especially if we see them against The Young Bucks.
Winners – PAC and Rey Fenix

MO: This match is nearly impossible to call, its got almost every tag team in the entire company looking at the list of everybody in it. The teams that stick out are Santana & Ortiz, the Death Triangle duo of PAC & Fenix, two of the three Dark Order combinations, those big two being Grayson & Uno and Reynolds & SIlver, and Private Party.  All the other teams to me are in there to fill it up which is fine, but if I had to pick one of these teams to win, it’s going to be PAC & Fenix.  They seem like a strong team going in especially after that 1-minute squash on Dynamite, where they basically destroyed John Skylar and seeing them against the Young Bucks will be one hell of a match.
Winner: PAC & Fenix

Miro and Kip Sabian Vs Best Friends (Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor)

TWB: I’m pretty surprised that these two teams haven’t been put in the battle royale, and I’ll be honest I’m not overly interested in this one, so I’m going to keep this prediction short and sweet and say Best Friends win.
Winners – Best Friends (Orange Cassidy and Chuck Taylor)

MO: So looking at this match it makes all the sense in the world that Miro should win it single-handedly by destroying Chuck Taylor very early but I don’t think that’s going to happen. I think this will be a good match because everyone involved is really good at what they do, and what I fully expect to happen and what should happen, is for Kip to lose the match for his team, and Miro turns on him.

Miro can’t look weak but taking the pin or even taking a lot of offence, protect Miro by not having him involved in the decision and to put a cap on this story with Miro and Chuck Taylor. Chuck should pin Kip and Miro moves on to bigger and better things the way it should have been all along.
Winner: Best Friends

Big Money Match
Adam Page Vs Matt Hardy

TWB: This feels like the easiest match on the card to predict, there’s no way Matt Hardy wins, Page is the future of the company, Matt winning doesn’t make any sense at all.

It probably won’t be at this PPV, but I would imagine somewhere down the line Adam Page will join the Dark Order, and following Negative One’s blessing, he will become the new leader of the stable, and perhaps as we head into the summer, we see a feud between Dark Order led by Hangman Page against Kenny Omega, The Good Brothers and The Young Bucks.
Winner – Adam Page

MO: I’m very intrigued by this match, the storyline money stuff doesn’t matter to me, but I am curious how it is going to affect the inevitability of Page officially joining the Dark Order and continuing his ascension up the card.

This story for Page, since the downward spiral of The Elite disowning him and everything with the Dark Order to this point, I love.  Matt Hardy setting up this match was interesting and I like his role here saying he’s going to torture the Dark Order to hurt Page.  Matt Hardy playing the Carny-Esque old school wrestler who paying people to take out his rival is really interesting and I think Matt is a good stepping stone to get Page to the next level.

Matt certainly doesn’t need to win and Page needs to keep winning to get him to the point where he’s ready to beat Kenny Omega because that’s what he’s being built up for and when it happens it will be amazing.  This should be a good match with Page winning, hopefully with Dark Order helping thwart TH2 who will probably try to help.
Winner: Adam “Hangman” Page

Team Taz (Brian Cage and Ricky Starks) Vs Darby Allin and Sting
Street Fight

TWB: It feels incredibly surreal to see Sting in the ring once again, it’s been almost 6 years since his last match, where he suffered what seemed to be a career-ending injury.

The Street Fight stipulation, will no doubt protect Sting and give it more of a ‘Smoke and mirrors’ style match-up. Darby Allin has proved in the last 18 months in AEW, that he’s willing to take high risks for high rewards, and I anticipate he will go all out in this one.

I feel a Team Taz win will do more for the duo of Cage and Starks, than a victory for Allin and Sting would, either Cage or Starks pinning Sting will do wonders for their careers, but also it’ll keep Darby who is the current TNT Champion protected.
Winners – Team Taz (Brian Cage and Ricky Starks)

MO: From the day Sting debuted in AEW I said and stand by it that Sting shouldn’t wrestle at all.  Darby Allin has been feuding with Team Taz for what feels like forever and I look forward to that being over, this has been dragging on for way too long.

Sting has not explained what is going on and if he wants to be Darby’s manager because Darby reminds him of himself then he should just say that.  There’s been speculation for a while that this might be a cinematic match to mask the fact that Sting hasn’t wrestled in six years.  Watching Sting take a powerbomb with no editing from Brian Cage, was cringe-worthy and has me sceptical that it will be a cinematic match but it absolutely needs to be.

Regardless of all of that, Sting doesn’t need to win matches, the attraction is him being there not him winning, he’s hopefully never going to even be in a match again for a very long time the future is in the other team. Starks has more potential then anyone in this match and Cage is already really good and could use a win here and it doesn’t hurt Darby for Sting to get pinned.  Hopefully, this is the end of this feud forever and literally, everyone can move on.
Winner: Team Taz

Cody Rhodes Vs Scorpio Sky Vs Penta El Zero Miedo Vs Lance Archer Vs Max Caster Vs TBA
Face of the Revolution Ladder Match
(Winner Receives Future TNT Championship Opportunity)

TWB: Let’s start with that TBA spot, the general consensus is saying that it’ll be Ethan Page, I will not disagree with that however, that doesn’t necessarily mean he has to win the match. If memory serves me right, Brian Cage made his AEW debut in a similar fashion last year, entering as a surprise entrant and winning a ladder match to earn himself a future title opportunity, therefore I’ll be inclined to say that history shouldn’t repeat itself this Sunday.

Personally, I think Cody should win, it seems that his feud with Shaq is over, and quite frankly, if he can’t be World Champion then he should at least in the running for the TNT Title, he and Allin have an obvious history within the company, as Darby was the man who took the title off Cody last November.
Winner – Cody Rhodes

MO: I am very excited about this match, I always get excited for ladder matches in general.  The winner of this match is receiving a TNT Championship match and I can see everyone except Max Caster who is announced, winning it.

There’s also the surprise entrant that I think has to be a debut, AEW has never really been about having a surprise entrant in a match and it not being a good one, if I had to guess I would say Ethan Page. He would be a big enough surprise for wrestling fans and especially with AEW catering their surprises in this capacity to wrestling fans and not casuals.

As for the others, any of these people facing Darby would be a great match. I don’t want it to be Cody because I’ve seen it but I’d absolutely love to see Darby versus Archer or Penta or Scorpio; these are all fresh matches.  Picking a winner here is very difficult but I think I’m gonna pick whoever TBA is, whether it’s Ethan Page who I hope it is or someone else. If it is a debut, as we hope it should be, it would be fresh to this audience and that’s what matters here.
Winner: TBA

Hikaru Shida (C) Vs Ryo Mizunami
AEW Women’s Championship

TWB: Hikaru Shida has had a very long reign as AEW Women’s Champion, and whilst the division perhaps hasn’t yet fully taken off, she has at least given some credibility to the title.

As I’ve already mentioned, Britt Baker should be in this title picture, and I assume that following this PPV she will be, therefore with that in mind, I’m going to say Shida retains, then as we head into Double Or Nothing in May which will mark her 1 year anniversary as champion, she will be involved in a rivalry with Dr Britt Baker.
Winner and still AEW Women’s Champion – Hikaru Shida

MO: If you have read my weekly reviews of AEW Dynamite, then you know that I hate the result of this tournament.  The matches, all for the most part were very good, the results, not so much.  I said from the very beginning the most over person in AEW’s women’s division is Britt Baker and there’s no denying this.

AEW has had this obsession with booking Japanese talent strong just because, and making Nyla Rose look good when her time has passed. There was no reason at all why Nyla should have beaten Britt or Thunder Rosa in that tournament, the Japanese side of the tournament shouldn’t have mattered because the winner should have been one of those two.  If it was Britt she should have been winning the title on this night in this match, if it was Thunder Rosa then Britt should have attacked her immediately after winning the belt to continue their feud, instead they are having a pointless tag match on the pre-show. Nothing against any of the Japanese talent in this tournament (except Aja Kong who needs to hang it up) they are all great talents, especially Maki Itoh, who for some reason lost early, so the publicity of that was ruined right away.

Regardless of all that, this is sure to be a great match, I’ve gone back and watched Shida and Ryo have great matches before and they are always good.  There’s no way Ryo is winning this match and if she does then it’s the wrong move. When we say we want this women’s division to flourish it means we want it to get the focus it deserves not that we want Japanese talents trading the title around. Also Nyla Rose is good but she’s not even close to the best talent in this division, so stop giving her all this focus for no reason. Shida retains, hopefully, after this, they start doing right by this division.
Winner: Hikaru Shida

The Young Bucks (C) Vs Chris Jericho and MJF
AEW Tag Team Championship

TWB: There are so many possibilities in this AEW Tag division, if Bucks retain, maybe they feud with Gallows and Anderson, or if Jericho and MJF become new champions, their Inner Circle teammates in Santana and Ortiz could get jealous and turn on them, and after that, we still haven’t mentioned the rest of the tag teams like FTR, Private Party, Death Triangle, Dark Order and everyone else that AEW have at their disposal.

One name that we haven’t seen in the past month is Sammy Guevara, he quit the Inner Circle following an attack on MJF, and I wouldn’t be shocked if we see him play a factor in this match. My assumption is at some point the referee gets knocked out, this leads to Wardlow entering the ring, then out of nowhere Guevara emerges and manages to take Wardlow out along with MJF, and despite some begging and pleading from Jericho, Guevara lays him out too, which allows The Bucks to pick up the win and remain Tag Team Champions.
Winners and still AEW Tag Team Champions – The Young Bucks

MO: This was the wrong match for this pay-per-view, if it was up to me the women’s tag on the pre-show wouldn’t be happening at all, this match would be Jericho & MJF versus Santana & Ortiz, and The Young Bucks would be facing Gallows & Anderson instead of dragging that out.

The story that got us here, is not good, the promos on the other hand were great.  I just hated the involvement of the Bucks’ dad, which was completely unnecessary, I hated Matt Jackson taking jabs at NXT and those comments not making sense when targeting Chris Jericho. I know this will be a good match there’s no denying that, but the stories the Inner Circle have been in since MJF joined have all kind of sucked and that shouldn’t be.

Part of me thinks Jericho’s influence on his own storylines might be coming off more WWE then he would like, without him even realizing it. I also don’t think it makes much sense that now that Sammy Guevara is gone from the Inner Circle, all of sudden Santana & Ortiz, and Hager are just fine with it, they should be just as upset about it and that it feels wrong that they are not. The fact of the matter is this, Jericho & MJF aren’t winning, they don’t need the tag titles, they need to continue this storyline of the Inner Circle falling apart and the only way that happens is if Sammy Guevara causes them to lose which is absolutely what should happen.

I think at this point it’s very clear that something is building between the Young Bucks and The Good Brothers, maybe a title for title situation, so The Bucks can’t be losing matches like this if that’s the direction they’re going in. Young Bucks win here, continue this Elite business, Jericho & MJF lose and continue whatever this Inner Circle stuff is.

Kenny Omega (C) Vs Jon Moxley
AEW World Championship
Exploding Barbed Wire Death-Match

TWB: This one is going to be insane, we’ve already seen what these two men will do to one another following their brutal ‘Lights Out’ match, and now the stakes are even higher.

It seems to me though that this is an extraordinarily predictable match, Kenny has only been champion for 3 months and he’s not really hit his stride, and there’s much more to come out of his title reign.

Ever since joining AEW, Moxley has pretty much been involved in the main event angles, so assuming he loses on Sunday it’ll be very intriguing where he goes next, considering he’s the current IWGP US Champion perhaps that title can be featured on AEW TV or on a different AEW affiliated show.
Winner and still AEW World Champion – Kenny Omega

MO: This is the most intriguing match of the entire show for the match stipulation alone.  I wonder why they chose this stipulation, part of me thinks it’s because Kenny Omega is trying to prove something to the world, that he can win any match type no matter the stipulation. Part of me thinks it’s Tony Khan going “hey come to our show where you’ll never see things like this that other company’s don’t show.”, either way, this is going to be very interesting.

I am a big fan of hardcore wrestling because when hardcore wrestling is done right it tells a story and can be a work of art, like all other wrestling matches, but I’ve seen a few matches where explosions are involved and I don’t know if it tells a good story or is just dangerous.

Moxley has been saying in his promos recently to the build of this one that if it’s his last ride (or something to that effect) he has no problem going out this way.  That says a lot to me, but it doesn’t say “retirement”, it says “taking a break”.  I can see Moxley using this match to take a break from AEW and focus on other things, perhaps an extended run in Japan, perhaps just staying home with his pregnant wife or perhaps something else but any of those would be acceptable because the last year of Jon Moxley’s career has been the best ever and he was easily the hardest working wrestler of any company in that time and has earned it.

Kenny Omega is just too good to lose right now, everything he’s been doing since winning the championship has been to get him to the top of the wrestling business and turn him into the top guy he should have been from day one. Kenny Omega will win here, I don’t know if it will be a classic but it’s sure to be very interesting and that’s probably what they were going for here.
Winner: Kenny Omega

Paul Wight Announcement

TWB: I’m putting this down as the final prediction of the night, as it feels that this announcement from Paul Wight is the most exciting thing that could happen on this PPV.

As he mentioned on Dynamite, AEW will sign a Hall of Fame worthy wrestler, and Tony Khan has now confirmed it will be a major star signed to a multi-year deal to the company, and I think that wrestler will be Christian. Now, honestly, if you ask me whether I want to see Captain Charisma in AEW, I’d say no, just because I feel from a storyline perspective him being in WWE, alongside Edge makes more sense, however, if he is no longer under contract, and he wants to wrestle on a frequent basis then it’d be a good addition to their roster. It may not be one that will shift the wrestling landscape, but he is a big name and has proven by his Royal Rumble performance, he can still go, and his fan base still want to see him in the ring again.

Anyway, that’s all for now, I hope you all enjoy the PPV, don’t forget to follow us on Twitter @SLTDWrestling and check out our AEW resident reviewer Mike, who gives his thoughts on Dynamite every week.
