SLTD Predicts – Will the Cruiserweight Title Change Brands?

We are well under way with SLTD Wrestling’s #SurvivorWeek, and by now I’m sure you all know what we do. Once again Team SLTD has gotten together to give our thoughts on whether or not the cruiserweight division will change brands this Sunday at Survivor Series.

We all give our thoughts below, give them a read and then tell us what you think.

@keiranthekiz (UKayfabe)
If the Cruiserweight Division were to move from Raw to Smackdown Live it would be a horrible decision in my opinion.

Firstly, I would assume if it did, they’d move the Intercontinental Title in the opposite direction, which would be an awful decision alongside it.
More importantly, Smackdown Live is a 2 hour show, Raw is 3 hours, which allows them more time to concentrate and develop these guys. I fail to see how trying to jam a whole new division into a 2 hour show already full of content makes more sense than to have them on a 3 hour show already struggling to fill the time.
Another factor is I wouldn’t have Brian Kendrick lose that title anytime soon, he’s the ultimate bad guy champion to carry the division, playing one of my favourite roles which is the heel veteran holding the belt who eventually puts over an up and coming superstar by dropping the belt after a lengthy reign.
Some of the matches and stipulations booked for Survivor Series make me worry that they’re only made to justify moving talent across brands, but hopefully the Cruiserweights stay on Raw and are allowed to flourish with more time and creativity.

“let’s get straight to the point- do I think it will move shows? No. Do I think it should move shows? Yes.

I know a few people that tune into RAW every single week, and the reason for that isn’t because of Kevin Owens, or for a list (even though it’s amazing) or for Braun Strowman (because he’s amazing) some people tune in because of the Cruserweights. Maybe even officials backstage know this which makes me think that it will not move shows.

However. I think it SHOULD move shows. Firstly, everyone on SmackDown is treated with the same opportunities so it won’t be just TJP & Brian Kendrick constantly, everyone from Noam Dar to Kalisto would have a chance to shine which is one of the things that stand out for SmackDown. It would also add roster members and value to SmackDown.

With the new “205” show being done on a Tuesday night, it makes logistical sense to have the Cruiserweights move over to a Tuesday night. Smackdown’s roster is also a little thin on the ground so this would help improve that, added to the fact that Smackdown was the original home of the Cruiserweights in WWE, it all adds up to making perfect sense. Allow Raw to run with having the “Bigger Stars” as it always has done, and let Smackdown be the alternative, it worked before so why can’t it work again?

So far, the grand Cruiserweight return on the main roster has been failing pretty badly on RAW. What promised to be an exciting new part of the show turned out to be a poor attempt to spotlight the whole division while failing to promote any of the star individually. Despite having months to prepare, it almost seems like the main roster writers don’t really know what to do with them while they’re on RAW, on a show that really doesn’t need them. The simple solution would be to get the division on SmackDown! and now we’ve got a great opportunity to do that. Being on the blue brand would be best for the brand and to be honest, it being on the blue brand would be best for the Cruiserweights and to be honest, it’s honestly shocking that these Cruiserweights weren’t on SmackDown! in the first place. While Kendrick probably shouldn’t lose the title already, it really doesn’t effect him as he’ll have a chance to get it back on SmackDown! with the entire division moving there. At the moment, it doesn’t matter who is the champion – as long as the division is on SmackDown!

As some people know I’ve supported The Brian Kendrick for many years now and I was elated when he made his return during the Cruiserweight Classic, however I feel my support for Brian will be in vain this Sunday.
On November 29th 205 live will be debuting on the WWE Network, it will feature the Cruiserweight division and it’ll be taped straight after Smackdown, therefore it makes sense for Kalisto to win this Sunday (sadly) and hopefully with better booking on Smackdown the Cruiserweights will be able to regain their mojo that they’ve lost since the CWC.

So the Cruiserweight division….. since the Cruiserweight classic the division was on fire, due to mainly the way it was portrayed and the Ranallo Bryan factor on commentary, I feel since it’s moved solely to Raw it’s floundered I would of thought that extra hour they have would be used well but in my opinion it hasn’t, not being given the time and mainly being in multi tag team matches nothing has really materialised! Now I love Kendrick but dropping the title so quick from Perkins was a bad call! I don’t want the title to change hands again but would love it to be on Smackdown! I just don’t see how that’s going to happen though. With 205 show on straight after smackdown it kind of makes sense to flow that way! In conclusion the Cruiserweights just need more TV time and use them all don’t have it just based around the title have it based around fighting for that title!

The Cruiserweight Classic was a revelation and one of the best business decisions by WWE. To see a collection of the best independent talent standing inside a WWE ring was mind blowing, the tournament was a ratings winner and did much to bring the WWE universe up to speed. The announcement of the Cruiserweight division on Raw split the fan base, a lot of us know the reputation the company has with the high flying superstars so we panicked. As predicted the Cruiserweights have seriously bombed on the supposed ‘A’ show, the momentum gained in the CWC was lost within minutes of TJ Perkins and gang debuting on Raw. When it was known there would be a brand split taking place many called for the Cruiserweights to be positioned on SDLive, especially with Daniel Bryan & Mauro Ranallo on the blue brand. Since the failure on Raw and then the change of title holder the division has sunk further into mediocrity, the news that Brian Kendrick would be facing Kalisto isn’t the best ever, but the stipulation if Kalisto wins means the division comes to the blue team is amazing news. I’m not keen on Kalisto being champion but if he is to win it’s a good move for the division and talent, with the recently announced 205 live show this could be the best decision since the CWC took place.

@TheWWEVoiceless (The Voice of Reason)
An interesting stipulation added to the match between The Brian Kendrick and Kalisto where the winner of the match gets then Cruiserweight title and wins the entire division for their respective brands. Ultimately there are two ways of looking at this. Either it will move to SmackDown Live on the back of the Cruiserweight show airing straight after the blue brands show on Tuesday nights or Kendrick retains as otherwise this is too short a title reign. My guess? The division moves to SmackDown. This will give SmackDown a great depth of roster in their show and the division itself to get a fresh start which it definitely needs. The Cruiserweights have been successful in the past on SmackDown and there would be no reason to have the 205 show air after SmackDown if the division wasn’t on it. That being said, I hope it’s not a goodbye to Talking Smack.

@AdamOB_UTS (Under The Spotlight)
I don’t have much of an issue with the Cruiserweight division jumping over to SmackDown Live. It makes perfect sense with 205 Live set to air directly after the show on Tuesday nights, so in that regard, I expect Kalisto to pull off the victory on Sunday and walk out with the title.
But that’s the one part I don’t like. I have absolutely loved seeing Brian Kendrick’s work over the last few months, and I think him dropping the title just for the sake of moving the division over to another show is going to be somewhat detrimental to the streak he’s been on.
I like Kalisto, but in no way do I think he’s deserving of a championship title after the non-role he’s played since the draft back in July. I can see him winning, which is going to be a huge blow to Monday Night Raw who is already struggling to carry three hours, but personally I don’t think Kalisto is strong enough to carry an entire division on his shoulders when he’s just been AWOL for months.

There are Team SLTD’s thoughts on the future of the Cruiserweight Division, but what are yours?
