#TeamSLTD Discuss – The Honky Tonk Man [Hall of Fame 2019] (@stoughe | @callumowen98 | @TyboTalks)

It’s officially SLTD Mania Month, and you know what that means. Once again Team SLTD have gotten together to give our thoughts on this year’s Hall of Fame inductee The Honky Tonk Man.

We all give our thoughts below, let us know in the comments below what you think of one of this year’s inductee’s!

@Stoughe (The Wrestling Guild)
I grew up on 80s wrestling and my first by idol was without a doubt the Honky Tonk Man. There was something enigmatic about his entire personality and the way he moved in the ring, as well as his lengthy reign as Intercontinental Champion.

I was also a big fan of his song and would sit in front of Sky Channel waiting for it to come, but was constantly disappointed when DJ Kat came on instead.

There will always be a discussion regarding who deserves to be in the Hall of Fame, and while Honky Tonk might not be a candidate to be in the true Wrestling Hall of Fame, he definitely should be in the WWE one. He was such a defining part of one of the greatest eras of wrestling.

@callumowen98 (The Wrestling Brain)
I’m always a fan of a good heel in the wrestling business and Honky Tonk Man was a great heel, his reign as Intercontinental Champion will go down in the history books. I was born in 1998 so I never watched him when he was in his prime but whenever I rewatch some of his work I’m captivated by his charisma and how easy he was hated.

He returned in 2008 and feuded with Santino Marella over the IC Title as Marella invented the HonkyMeter trying to break Honky Tonk Man’s record of days spent as IC Champion. Even though it was a short feud being a 10-year old I was entertained by this man who looked a bit like Elvis Presley and adored his theme tune.

Welcome to the Hall Of Fame to the man that’s cool, cocky and bad, he’s just the Honky Tonk Man!

@TyboTalks (Tybo Talks)
Although I was only a child when Honky Tonk Man was in his prime in the WWE (then WWF) it’s rare that anyone will mention the Intercontinental Championship and its lineage without mentioning The Honky Tonk Man. With a Championship reign of 64 Weeks, how could anyone say The Tonk doesn’t deserve a spot in the Hall of Fame.

I am fully aware that this record breaking championship run happened in the 80s and will probably never happen again, but to carry the title dubbed ‘the workhorse championship’ for well over a year is not something to be overlooked.

Honky Tonk Man was a great heel and a great addition to the WWE (then WWF) roster, with his Elvis ‘rip off’ gimmick, down to the custom made jumpsuits, and even being managed by Jimmy Hart who was dubbed ‘Cornel Jimmy Hart (a play on Elvis’s manager Col. Tom Parker.

Honk Tony Man is most deserving of this Hall of Fame induction, and I’m looking forward to his speech.

What do yo think about The Honky Tonk Man being inducted into the Hall of Fame? Does he deserve it? Let us know in the comments below or tweet us @SLTDWrestling.
