The Voice of Reason: Does the WWE lack top stars?

Howdy folks, The Voice of Reason back this week after a short holiday. I touchdown in the country to the news that Seth Rollins has suffered a knee injury, and is out for about 6-9 months, relinquishing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship. This is definitely a great loss for us as the fans as well as the company. There are lawyers for DUI cases who makes sure that the guilty is severely punished and it would be a lesson for all drivers to drive safe and sound always.

Rollins has literally been running all the house shows and PPV’s since his Money In The Bank victory last year, and even more so since winning the WWE World Heavyweight Title at WrestleMania. He has made bad feuds look good, played the perfect heel and has delivered both on the mic and in the ring. A great asset lost and I am really going to miss him, but at he same time, his return will be one of the biggest in a long time.

With Daniel Bryan, Seth Rollins and Randy Orton all out with injuries, this raises the question about the roster the WWE has. I guess the title of this post is deceptive, because there are top stars. Cena, Reigns, Ambrose, Owens etc. But losing someone like Rollins, and the company seeming to have a panic reaction, just shows that the company aren’t prepared for top stars to leave or get injured.

I get that it is Rollins’ job to make himself indispensable and irreplaceable, but WWE should be placing other stars in better positions. Take Kevin Owens for example, who is definitely over with fans as a heel, and made a big impact when arriving on the main roster. He definitely has the potential to be a top heel in the company, but they give him quiet little feuds that are okay but quickly forgotten. Even if the matches are great, the story itself is below par. Owens should be having long term feuds with top faces like Orton, Reigns and Ambrose so that if there is a need for it, he can easily take a higher spot on the card.

Speaking of Ambrose, who is another under-utilised star. His recent use has just been assisting Reigns in taking on The Wyatt Family or Seth Rollins, rather than building a feud of his own. Going against someone like Del Rio or Kevin Owens for a title would definitely elevate him and so he is also ready to step up when someone like Cena is out. Ambrose is a star who can play both heel and face incredibly well. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a heel turn and Ambrose maybe taking Rollins place.

I guess what I’m getting at is, WWE have stars. They have great performers and great talkers, but it feels like the machine only really gets behind a few stars, rather than all of them. There are many guys who can step up when required, but if they were in long term and meaningful feuds, it would make for far better and less predictable programming.

Let’s hope that the recent injuries at least give a few other superstars the chance to step up and become more rounded. So that when Cena, Orton, Bryan and Rollins do eventually come back, the competition will be higher than ever.

Til next week. @TheWWEVoiceless
