#TheWrestlingBrain: #Summerslam Predictions (@callumowen98)

Hello, it’s me TWB and I’m not just your predictions guru for NXT Takeover this weekend, I’m also giving you my thoughts on the biggest party of the summer, Summerslam!

I’m not going to give my predictions for each match on the card, as it’s long one, so I’ll give my thoughts on both world title matches, women’s title matches and the big grudge match between The Miz and Daniel Bryan.

Daniel Bryan vs The Miz

This match has been 8 years in the making.  Ever since The Miz was Daniel Bryan’s mentor on the first season of NXT, there has been heat between the two. Bryan a well-established independent darling being coached by someone who got into WWE through a reality show, the story writes itself.

Before Bryan’s retirement in 2016, they’d had their matches, but it was during Bryan’s stint as GM of Smackdown Live where their feud boiled over. On an episode of Talking Smack, Bryan and Miz had a heated argument, where Bryan called Miz’s wrestling style soft and said he wrestles like a coward and the then Intercontinental Championship told Bryan to go back to the bingo halls.

Ever since that episode almost two years ago we have been waiting and hoping to see these two enemies clash in the ring, and finally, at Summerslam, we will see it happen. In my opinion, this is probably the most anticipated match on the whole card, both men are known for their show-stealing performances, and if given the time I believe we could see one of the best matches in Summerslam history.

I think Miz needs the first win in their series of matchups, and then this could lead to the in the storyline and real life, Bryan staying with WWE by saying he’s not leaving until he gets revenge and beating Miz.
Winner – The Miz

Carmella vs Becky Lynch vs Charlotte Flair (Smackdown Women’s Championship Match)

This was originally scheduled to be a 1-1 match between the champion Carmella and Becky Lynch, however, Charlotte returned and defeated Carmella which made it a triple threat. In this story, you have the underdog Lynch who everybody wants to win, Carmella who has been a bit of fluke champion and Charlotte who is one of the best female wrestlers in the business.

Personally, I could see this match having a double finish, I would like to see Carmella tap out to the Armbar, but also an inverted Figure 8, you could have Becky and Charlotte argue who is the rightful champion until Paige comes out and restarts the match. Straight away Charlotte rolls up Becky and gets the sneaky win. This would turn Flair heel, and you can Becky chase her former friend into the Evolution PPV.
Winner  – Charlotte Flair

Ronda Rousey vs Alexa Bliss (Raw Women’s Championship Match)

This match should be short and sweet. When you have Ronda Rousey, a former UFC Champion vs Alexa Bliss, someone who has been booked pretty well but in terms of her credibility vs a badass that Ronda is.

Alexa doesn’t stand a chance, I would like to see Ronda win within a minute, have her win like she’d did in some of her UFC fights, have Alexa go for a slap straight away, Ronda blocks it, locks in an armbar and Rousey wins.
Winner – Ronda Rousey

AJ Styles vs Samoa Joe – (WWE Championship Match)

This for me is the second most anticipated match on the Summerslam card behind Miz and Bryan, The Phenomenal One vs The Samoan Submission Machine. Two TNA cornerstone stars having a major match on a big four WWE PPV is unheard of, no-one would’ve seen this coming three years ago.

Joe made his presence known after assaulting Styles and cut a bold promo, saying Styles is not a family man, and his kids will be happy to have their dad back when he defeats him and takes away his title.

In my opinion Samoa Joe is one of the best promo guys in WWE, but he hasn’t been able to back it up in the ring yet, he cut a great promo against Lesnar but lost, and the same happened in his Roman Reigns feud earlier this year, so realistically Joe desperately needs this win to prove that he is a legitimate superstar.

However, AJ is getting pretty close to a year’s long reign and being the cover athlete for WWE 2K19, means he’s a bigger deal in WWE’s eyes over Joe, and they will more than likely want him as champion when the game releases in October. So, for mainly marketing reasons and a chance that he could be the longest running WWE Champion in the modern day era, I’m going to say AJ Styles retains
Winner – AJ Styles

Brock Lesnar vs Roman Reigns (WWE Universal Championship)

This is one of the most polarising feuds in recent WWE history, not many people have enjoyed Brock’s title reign, and nobody wants to see Roman get yet another shot at the Universal Championship. However, there’s a plan KO.

Earlier on in the night of Summerslam Kevin Owens will face Braun Strowman with the Money In The Bank briefcase on the line, I can see Owens get a sneaky victory thanks to Braun being disqualified. Then in the main event, after a brutal and hopefully bloody war. Reigns wins and can celebrate, Heyman and Brock walk off, and then Owens music hits and he runs down to the ring.

Pop–Up Powerbombs Reigns and wins the title. I think out of all 4 possible wrestlers who could be Universal Champion at the end of Summerslam, Kevin Owens makes the most sense.
Winner – Roman Reigns

Post-Match: Money In The Bank Briefcase holder Kevin Owens cashes in his contract and becomes new Universal Champion.

These are my Summerslam Predictions for five of the marquee matches.
