TNA LockDown Fallout – The MVP Era Has Arrived

Welcome to my newest report, where I’ll be talking about the fallout from LockDown.

What did we all think? Personally, I’m very happy that Dixie’s no longer on the show every week and Dixie Land is officially over, but I’m sure she’ll be making a few appearances in the future.

The real question is though, does MVP have enough about him to keep the fans interested? I know we’ve only had one episode in the UK where MVP’s been in charge, but I’m interested in the way things have been going so far. We’ve got a new slogan – Motivate, Validate and Participate – could they have put a bit more effort into it?

The premise of the new way Impact is going to run is very simple – no more run-ins during Magnus’ matches from the Dixieland troops. It’s all going to be above board and, more to the point, fairer for the babyfaces in the company. I think it’s been set up very well because most of the fans have been so fed up with the run-ins of late that it’s almost like a new entity straight away with the fights now being “fair”.

There have been a few other changes implemented as well.

Abyss is the first thing. After being unmasked and helping out Magnus at LockDown – he now has a new mask. I can see the goal they’re trying to achieve. As Joseph Park, he was a major face and I suppose to try to make his heel turn more convincing they put a new mask on him. I like it. You can see more of his face, which makes his character a bit more eerie.

Then we have the new EC3. He’s definitely not a face, but he seems to be distancing himself from the heels. He doesn’t have an alignment to anyone and he’s going it alone, which gives his character a whole new scope and allow him to show just how good he is. His replies to the “you can’t wrestle” chants are great. Even a few weeks back, when the Raw takeover was in full flow, he said “you’re not hijacking this show”. That was priceless in my eyes!

Willow has arrived, doing all the same moves as Jeff Hardy, but we now know that he’s classed as Jeff’s alter-ego. I’m not sure if it was a good way to go though because I’m still not convinced by the character. He’s supposedly striking fear into his opponents, but I don’t think it’s working. The fact that he’s in a mask with some face-paint isn’t different enough. I can’t really say how I’d like things to go with Willow, but I’d rather have the real Jeff Hardy back.

The last person I’ll be talking about is one of my all-time favourite characters – Bully Ray. He’s made another character change, and I’m liking the new direction it’s gone in. He’s another guy who we don’t really know which side he’s on. He went against Dixie at LockDown – one of the biggest shocks on the show – but he still doesn’t seem to be completely onside with MVP.

The only downside to it is how drastic the change has been since his Casket Match to now, however, he’s one of only a few people who can pull it off. Was it a good move though, or does he make a better heel? I don’t think it really matters because he’s so entertaining in the ring.
