OK, well anybody that reads my weekly posts will know I am rather fond of watching TNA each week, and you will also know that I have my share of gripes with the company. That being said, I was rather confused with TNA from 17th April. Things had been such a mix up the week before it had been a treat to watch, fans had a look of absolute shock on their faces and a brand new champ was crowned.
Then I sat and watched Impact from last week, and all I could say to myself was oh dear. I couldn’t believe the company had stopped dead after the shock of the previous week and started running story lines very similar to the other big company in the USA – WWE. The main problem here is the unfortunate return of Dixie carter, and this is where the Doppelganger effect comes in.
Now I may be in the minority but I don’t get to see WWE on a weekly basis, so I didn’t see the similarity between the champ story line in WWE and TNA. I know a lot of you out there jumped on TNA straight away and had your say on Twitter and Facebook, but it wasn’t until Dixie started spouting on about owning the Beard on Eric Young that I couldn’t deny the blurred lines between the two companies.
This was a real shame after the shock factor of the previous week, and took the edge off the rest of the show. Why bring back Dixie at all when things are obviously going in the right direction with MVP as the face of the company, and why let Dixie carry on like that in the ring without MVP interfering – it just doesn’t make any sense.
The people in the back must know what they are doing, but it seems they just can’t carry their own storylines at all. Someone must realise that the fans aren’t going to put up with this for very long, in fact I would go as far as to say that the fans have had enough already. Myself, I am willing to stick with it, but that is only as I can’t watch WWE. If I had them both to watch I may have a different opinion, but then again if very similar story lines were running on both I would imagine I would just go with the more entertaining version.
With the amount of talent TNA has in the locker room they really need to keep their eye on the ball with stories, there is a little bit of tunnel vision running through the company right now. It is great to think the one of the best tag teams they had is having one night back together – Beer Money really have the talent to get the crowd going but I am not sure if they have had a run as heels before, that makes things a little more interesting as to whether they can co-exist.
The main event last week helped redeem the Impact episode for me as I really enjoy the Monsters Ball matches. It ups the ante for the guys in the ring, especially once the thumb tacks and barbed wire make an appearance, and Eric Young and Abyss didn’t disappoint.
It wasn’t one of the longest matches they have done, but it was entertaining from beginning to end and that is what counts for me. I can let story lines between companies go to a point, I can ignore the droning of Dixie carter slide, but as long as I am entertained and amused my I see on the screen –I am happy. Maybe I am in the minority, maybe there are some other people out there that just want to enjoy what they see, but if TNA don’t start to listen to what the fans are saying they are not going to survive
