Tybo Talks… NXT TakeOver: Respect

Welcome once again to a Tybo Talks! I am Tybo, and I’m sure by now you know that I am the ‘Five Star General’ of this operation we call SLTD Wrestling.

Once again, before I get into this weeks Tybo Talks, I want to throw out a very cheep plug and say I manage our official Facebook page, and it would be great if you could Like us over there. So follow the link (facebook.com/SLTDWrestling) and hit that Like button. Still Free Beer if you do!

This weeks Tybo Talks could be a little different, I am going to do review NXT TakeOver: Respect. So if you have not watched it I strongly recommend that you do as it was one of the best NXT TakeOver specials I have seen.

I think this is both a huge credit to all the NXT talent and to Triple H. Remember when a certain ‘Straight Edge Superstar’ said a few years ago that WWE would be worse off when ‘Vince’s idiot daughter and duffus son in law take over’. Well he took over last night and if that whats the future looks like, I literally can not wait!

So the show started with the Two Semi-Final Matches in the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic

Finn Balor and Samoa Joe vs. The Mechanics

I have to say although Joe and Balor looked great in this match and came out with the victory it was The Mechanics that looked like a (excuse the pun) well oiled machine in the ring. I was always expecting Joe and Balor to take the victory but The Mechanics looked so good. If anyone reads my stuff regularly you will know that I absolutely love wrestlers who are throwbacks to a more smash mouth era and The Mechanics are without a doubt that. I hope they stay together all the way up to the main roster as they would be a great addition to the Tag Division.

Jason Jordan & Chad Gable vs. Rhyno & Baron Corbin

I think Jordan and Gable are great, really remind me of ‘The Worlds Greatest Tag Team’ but that could just be because of there attire. This was another solid match to me, both teams worked great together. I think it would be cool if the kept Rhyno and Corbin together as I think Rhyno gets Corbin over a lot more than he does on his own. I think it was obvious that it was going to be Rhyno and Corbin who took the victory making the finals stacked with four of NXT’s main stars.

Asuka vs. Dana Brooke

Next up was the first of two women’s matches. Now, I will be honest I am very hard on Dana Brook. I really don’t think she is very good and I really don’t like that Emma (would is clearly better in the ring) plays second fiddle to her. That being said I knew she would have to work hard to be able to hold her own in the ring with Asuka, and I have to say she was better than usual. Maybe it was Asuka carrying the match, as lets be honest if you have seen Asuka wrestle before you will know she is a legitimate badass. I think there is a very bright future for Asuka in the WWE Divas Division.

Tyler Breeze vs. Apollo Crews

I am going to start by saying that there is no doubt that Apollo Crews is an awesome talent is and is going on to do amazing things, without a doubt a future NXT Champion, most likely a future WWE Champion, but Tyler Breeze deserves more. Breeze has been in NXT since the beginning and has been a talent since day one. Breeze should of been brought to the main roster months ago and I think everyone knows it. Clearly there is a reason why he has not yet but I just really hope it happens soon. I’m really not sure who they are having him constantly lose at NXT TakeOver event, but they really need to do more with him. None the less this match was great, with two great talents. I am expecting huge things from Crews.

Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals: Samoa Joe and Finn Balor vs. Rhyno and Baron Corbin

Now it was time for The Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Finals. I think the whole concept of this Tag Classic has been great, and a perfect way to honor the memory of The Dream. There is only one thing I did not like about the finals and that is the two teams. Both sets of finalist are not actual teams, they were put together for this tournament. Personally, I think it would of been great to have the finalist two strong up and coming teams that could make there name on winning the Tag Classic. A far more fitting final would of been The Mechanics vs. Jordan and Gable, not four already established stars in their own right. That being said the final match was great, but teams told a great story and the inclusion of the Balor ‘injury’ add the thought that either team could win. I look forward to the next one next year.

After the match The Rhodes family came out to present the huge trophy two the winners Balor and Joe. Cody Rhodes gave an emotional speech about The Dream and his father. This was a really nice moment were there was no story lines or gimmicks, just respect for Dusty Rhodes.

30-Minute Iron Man Match for the NXT Women’s Title: Sasha Banks vs. Bayley

After the amazing show these two women put on at NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn, there was absolutely no doubt that this match was going to be a instant classic. If you have not watched their match at Brooklyn I strongly suggest that you go back and watch it. I have said more than once that Banks vs. Bayley was the best match of the whole SummerSlam weekend. I was really hoping for a Bret Hart vs Shawn Micheals style sudden death finish to this match but I think that would of been very obvious. The match as a whole was awesome, it told a great story of respect between the two women, but they are willing to do anything to win the NXT Women’s Championship. The last five minutes was the best finish to any match I have seen in a long time, the main roster divas need to really step up and show that they still have it because after the show that Bank and Bayley put on, they are leaving the whole WWE Divas Division in the dust.

As a whole the event was awesome, there wasn’t one match I could really fault. The only thing I could criticize was the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic finalists but even that, I can understand why the finalist were who the were.

Match of the night was obviously Sasha Banks vs Bayley, this was amazing from start to finish and I know it is getting said a lot but they are changing the face of women’s wrestling world wide one match at a time.

What were your thought on NXT TakeOver: Respect, did you think I was to generous with my words, did you dislike anything? Let me know in the comments below.
