Tybo Top Five – Ways To Improve the Divas Revolution

Welcome once again to a Tybo Top Five! I am Tybo, and I’m sure by now you know that I am the ‘Five Star General’ of this operation we call SLTD Wrestling.

Before I get into this weeks Tybo’s Top Five, I want to throw out a very cheep plug and say I manage our official Facebook page, and it would be great if you could Like us over there. So search SLTD Wrestling and hit that Like button. A Free Beer if you do!

This week I am looking at ways to improve the ‘Divas Revolution’. The Revolution is well under way but what can WWE do next to keep the Divas division fresh and interesting? I have five suggestions below.

Where is the Storyline?

I think firstly there is a major lack of storyline in the whole divas push. Yeah I understand that everyone wants to be the Divas Champion and that’s great, but its not developing and characters. After a certain amount of time I’m not going to want to tune in to see what happens next, it’s going to get stale very quick. I may be being really stereotypical here and I apologise but this all about nine women. You don’t think Paige is going to be a little bit pissed off that Charlotte is getting a title match? Or that Brie wouldn’t be upset that with the team set up, and that she is Team Bella she gets no opportunity to challenge for the title?

All these things should be incorporated into a storyline. They are not going to stay in teams, and I’m sure not one of them really want to be teamed up as they all want to ‘go it alone’ WWE should be using all these things to built a somewhat compelling storyline to keep people interested. Not having random matches one team member against another.

Cutting A Promo

Divas cutting a promo has a history of not going down all that well in my opinion, with the obvious exception of Stephanie McMahon, who is without a doubt the best ‘diva’ on the mic and has been for the best part of 15 years. I would also say that AJ Lee is a close second. Divas in general have never really had the work on the mic, which is a shame because I find it always sort of kills the momentum of a feud when the mic work is poor.

Now, I’m not saying that the nine divas in the revolution are poor at cutting promos, I think they do well in the backstage. Where it can be pre-taped. I think in a live situation, they all struggle. I think this has a lot to do with the lack of storyline, if they were on the mic every week they would improve, but at the moment there is not real need to be on the mic as most of the interaction is done backstage.

More Divas, More Teams

I know what most people are going to be thinking here, ‘More Divas? We need less to get them over’. To a point I agree with this, but the team aspect seems to be the way WWE are going with the divas, so I say embrace it. Having the same nine divas facing each other is going to get old fast, so either start to show that there is friction in the teams and look at breaking some up or revamping them in the future, or add new fresh teams to the mix.

Personally, I have already said that it’s is crazy to me that you can have a ‘Divas Revolution’ without Natalya. I know that she could be off TV because of Tyson’s injury but she is still working house shows. I think Natalya, Emma and Bayley, would really add something. I have already said in a previous Tybo’s Top Five that I would love to see a legacy style team with Natalya, Tamina and Charlotte. I think it would be a great dynamic to have a team of second generation divas.

Why Do We Have Teams?

I think this one has already passed but I think it would of been far cooler if rather than having Stephanie McMahon come out and tell us there is a ‘Divas Revolution’ and group the divas together, there should have been a more organic build for the teams. Have a reason for them all to come together. Even the smallest of things could of helped with this, Naomi and Tamina going to NXT to scout Banks, Paige teasing that she has has a conversation with a diva (Becky or Charlotte) to help her take on Team Bella. These are all very simple things that could have added to the feeling that each diva wanted to be aligned with the others.

They all just look mashed together to me, and personally Sasha Banks looks like she has been dropped in Team B.A.D and shouldn’t be there. I think this is totally a personal thing but what are the reasons behind these teams? If any of you know the character of any of the NXT divas none of them would feel the need to join a team, especially Sasha Banks. Unless she was the main star, she is The Boss after all. I like the team aspect, I just don’t like the way they introduced it as is seemed far too lazy.

Network Specials

This seems the most obvious way of giving the divas time to shine, the WWE have done a lot of Network Specials and I think a Divas Special is on the horizon. They could have both NXT and WWE Divas on there. Maybe culmination in a Champion vs. Champion match? I think the team aspect really lends itself to having some sort of team battle. Now, I’m not sure I’m saying they should have a ‘Diva Cup’ or ‘DivaBowl’ because let’s be honest that feels a lot like a TNA One Night Only (and no one wants that), but there has to be something they could work towards on a special to get more spotlight on the divas?

Maybe a King of the Ring style tournament with the winner going on to face the Divas champion? Lets not call it ‘Queen of the Ring’ though because no one wants to be googling that! I think a Network Special would also show if the Divas revolution is really drawing money and viewers, would you watch an all Divas Network Special? Personally, I still think the best match of SummerSlam weekend was Sasha Banks vs Bayley so I would tune in without a doubt.

So there are some ideas on how I would improve the ‘Divas Revolution’ what would you do?

What does the ‘Divas Revolution’ need to legitimise it in your eyes?

That was this weeks Tybo’s Top Five, I will be back next week with a Tybo Talks… be sure to check out the rest of SLTD Wrestling. and let me know what you think below.
