#TyboTalks: #MLW ‘Wrestling’s Best Kept Secret’ (@TyboTalks)

Welcome once again to Tybo’s Talks! I am Tybo, and I’m sure by now you know that I am the ‘Five Star General’ of this operation we call SLTD Wrestling.

I would firstly like to make clear I am in no way affiliated with MLW, they have not asked me to write this or be so positive about their product. I am just a wrestling fan, talking about great wrestling. Although if anyone from MLW or Court Bauer happens to read this, they can contact me anytime *Cheap Plug*

With the global success of WWE Network, it seems like now more than ever the wrestling world is expanding at an unmeasurable rate, and the options to watch your favourite promotions or wrestlers are becoming easier and easier.

I am based in the UK, and funds permitting I could easily watch fresh new wrestling content every day of the week, With WWE Network, Impact Wrestling’s GWN App, New Japan’s NJPW World, Ring of Honor’s HonorClub, and even our great sponsors at PowerslamTV covering everything from the indys, It’s hard to decide what is worth spending your hard earned money on to get your wrestling fix.

There is one wrestling company that is doing things a little differently, MLW (Major League Wrestling), or as I called them ‘wrestling’s best kept secret’

A Very Brief History of MLW

MLW was founded in 2002 by Court Bauer, who formerly wrote for WWE. They originally broadcast on the ‘Sunshine Network’ until 2004. The MLW doors closed not long after due to a lack of sponsors, although this would deter Bauer.

In 2011 Bauer started ‘MLW Radio’ this would be all digital content but with a wrestling flair. MLW Radio has been a huge success with podcast like ‘Something to Wrestling’ with Bruce Prichard, ‘What Happened When’ with Tony Schiavone ’83 Weeks’ with Eric Bischoff. All hosted by the Conrad Thompson.

On a personal note, these podcasts are absolutely fantastic, if you are an old-school WWE/F or WCW fan I highly recommend you check these out. I can guarantee you will become a huge Conrad Thompson mark.

MLW returned in 2017 with a brand new weekly show ‘MLW Fusion’.

Why MLW?

MLW doesn’t only boast a stellar cast of wrestlers, that if you have spent any time watching Impact Wrestling, Lucha Underground, or any indy promotions around the US, or promotions on Powerslam.TV you will know some of the talent. There is also old school representation the likes of Tommy Dreamer, and even Tony Schiavone on commentary.

MLW Fusion feels fresh and new, I am personally very new to the product, but have been blown away by the high quality of the production of each Fusion show. I know this is not something you would think you notice about a wrestling show, but if an indy show has poor camera work and a low quality picture it always cheapens the whole experience for me.

This is 100% not the case with MLW, they are crisp and clean within all aspects of the show.

I have already mentioned the talent in the company but with a weekly spot to see the likes of Lucha Bros (Pentagon and Fenix), Tommy Dreamer, Low Ki, Sami Callahan, Joey Ryan, Jimmy Havoc, Rich Swann, The New Heart Foundation (Brian Pillman Jr., Davey Boy Smith Jr., and Teddy Hart), Simon Gotch, MJF and the current MLW Heavyweight Champion and former UFC star ‘Filthy’ Tom Lawlor.

MLW seems like a who’s who of great established talent and great up and coming talent you can see from the ground up.

Honourable mention for The New Era Hart Foundation: Although the MLW roster is great, I have to mention that this faction is something special. There have been many incarnations of ‘The Hart Foundation’ but this feels like a perfect representation of the Hart family.

Made up of Davey Boy Smith Jr (son of The British Bulldog), Teddy Hart (son of Georgia Hart) and Brian Pillman Jr (son of the late Brian Pillman) this faction feels like a throwback to a great era of wrestling. All three are great in the ring, and their tag team finisher a sort of modified ‘Doomsday Device’ or ‘Hart Attack’ is truly a sight to see.

What Makes MLW Different?

The best thing about MLW is the thing that makes them different, and that’s the distribution of their weekly show MLW Fusion. As I mentioned earlier we are in a digital age where every wrestling company seems to have their own, or be a part of someone else’s online streaming service.

MLW is different, they upload their full weekly show on their YouTube channel every Saturday for free, yes to read that correctly FREE!

This is something that you rarely see from a wrestling promotion these days, yes a lot of companies upload free matches, promos or even old PPVs or events, but none that boast the roster or production values of MLW do it on a regular basis. If they do, they certainly don’t do it on a weekly basis with that weeks show.

If that wasn’t enough they also show their special events for free on YouTube too, they have already shown ‘Battle Riot’ (MLW’s answer to the Royal Rumble), most recently the first ‘Super Fight’ event which seen two new champions crowned, and they are currently gearing up for ‘Intimidation Games’, which you guessed it you can watch for free.

If you are a wrestling fan and you haven’t checked out MLW Fusion on YouTube, as you can see I strongly suggest that you do! I can guarantee that you will not be disappointed. To make it even easier for you, subscribe to their YouTube Channel HERE!
