Who’s Next Up To Step Up

Dear SLTD Readers,

TLC is this Sunday live on the WWE Network, don’t forget to tune in because SLTD has a new fantasy league starting January 2016 and a lot of movement and title changes may take place from now until then. I was having a debate with a buddy of mine regarding the WWE Championship picture and if we really feel Sheamus deserves that title, after all WWE only decided to have him cash-in and win due to the unfortunate injury to Seth Rollins.

Personally I do not believe he is the right fit to hold the title at this time even if it is a temporary reign, Sheamus is lacking the momentum and needs to form a stable (Well Creatives Decided That) in order to receive the pop he still has yet to see. League Of Nations is a powerful stable and anyone of those stars has the potential to beat Sheamus in the ring and with the fans especially Alberto Del Rio who is just an example, what the WWE is doing with (ADR) befuddled me because joining a stable only hinders his potential and progress.

King Barrett and Rusev are two other superstars who can definitely make a run at the WWE title if they had to, unfortunately these gentlemen have managed to become the 2015-16 stooges with Sheamus being the Irish Vince McMahon. I understand WWE personnel wants to punish Rusev for Lana’s actions but how long can you continue to justify the punishment and if it fits the crime, Wade Barrett dancing with New Day eliminated any ruthless aggression credibility the King Of The Ring Winner once possessed he went from being a leader of Nexus to Sheamus’ lackey if you ask me THAT’S NOT COOL(Carlito Voice).

Of course I could not post the Spear Effect without mentioning other superstars with greater athleticism, talent, and character momentum which brings me to the moral of the post. These are the top five current superstars I feel can make a better WWE Champion than Sheamus, again ladies and gentlemen this is based on my opinions from the WWE products I have recently viewed….

5. Roman Reigns

Let me explain why I put him at number five even though he is clearly in the title hunt at this time Roman lacks the ability to perform a decent promo on the mic, his move set is clearly limited, and lets just face it he has had plenty off opportunities to claim his position at the top of WWE ranks. It has definitely taken a toll on WWE creatives when the only way the crowd can get behind Roman is when he continuously gets screwed time after time, his character is strong yet lacks the depth compared to legends like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, HBK, and Triple H (and he was horrible on the mic). Listen Roman’s future is bright hell I have him on my new SLTD Fantasy League (which you can join, and begins January 2016), but if his road to the title is filled with road bumps, and agonizing defeat then it will be a very long time before we see Reigns as champ.

4. Dean Ambrose

The Lunatic Fringe you know I had to list him at number four because I feel he received the wrong end of the deal with his Seth Rollins feud, there was so much animosity and build-up to this rivalry yet each time at the height of Dean’s popularity WWE managed to screw him and the WWE Universe out of a great championship run. Like Reigns his mic skills need a little tweaking however his popularity, in-ring abilities, and character momentum still has Dean at the top of the WWE totem pole. When it comes to 2016 a lot of eyes will be on Reigns, just remember not to sleep on the Lunatic Fringe all it takes is a few dirty deeds to reach his goal.

3. Big. E

Now I can see why Big E at number three can turn a lot of heads since he is in the most popular tag team who happens to be the tag team champions in the New Day, but if you take away Kofi and Xavier you have a superstar who has improved greatly on the mic, and not afraid to push his strength to the limits. You did not even need to team him with Kofi or X this man just needed an attitude change, an overall confidence boost in himself that he has the capability to carry himself, team, and opponents in a match. Later on in the future when the WWE chooses to disband the New Day look for Big. E to jump in the WWE title hunt, he’ll be the first between the three whose future shines brightest.

2. Dolph Ziggler

Dolph is the complete package promo skills, in-ring abilities, and definitely a fan-following that easily should put him in WWE title contention, so why does the WWE waste his time with Tyler Breeze? Honestly, I feel the powers are so caught up with Reigns, and other stars that they quickly overlook the Hollywood (Fl) Kid they have no use for him priority wise so they choose him to be the one to put over Breeze. He hesitated to re-sign with the WWE, however they promised him to become the main event star which included WWE title matches that have yet to be granted until then consider him one of the most under utilized and underrated.

1. Kevin Owens

The long road he took just to get his foot in the door of WWE should be enough to easily put him at number one, and by far the most deserving on this entire list. While everyone was infatuated with Cm Punk, Cena, ADR, Orton, and Triple H this dude was busting his ass day in and day out on the independent circuit and as a top star in Ring Of Honor then known as Kevin Steen (given name) the crowd would go wild for him everywhere he went. Just like an independent artists who builds his/her brand perfecting their craft and gaining a following is the same formula Owens followed and succeeded, creatives are against him, the world os calling him fat yet he is laughing all the way to the top of WWE. Ryback was a boring IC Champion and Owens brought excitement and relevance back to the title in a way that no one has, go back and watch his Raw match with Ziggler that is text book wrestling at its finest notice how he interacted with the crowd and carried Dolph through that match like a seasoned veteran should. He knows how to work the crowd, he can work the mic, and this guy can flat-out fight I hope he drops the IC Title so he would enter the Royal Rumble and win it all Kevin Owens is the complete package don’t let that big body fool you because once he hits the pop-up powerbomb it is lights out one, two, three. Kevin Owens if you ever read this just know you are the greatest to ever step in the ring your crowning moment is closer than ever, dreams of becoming WWE Champion will come true no matter what #FightOwensFight.

The Spear Effect

Short sweet plain and simple, Sheamus is not fit to be WWE champion he and Barrett should be chasing Tag Team Gold, League Of Nations should be a stable of rebels not a champion who needs others to help carry his momentum. I’m praying the WWE speeds past this Reigns/Sheamus feud because I would love to see a Owens go at the Celtic Warrior, there is a reason he has not joined the League Of Nations it is because he doesn’t need anyone or anything to help him become WWE Champion Owens ultimate goal. Before I go I would like to say thank you for reading this column feel free to comment or reply to me on Twitter @orilex8 and let me know who you feel deserves to be champion, as always you have just witnessed the Spear Effect.
