WrestleMania In-Depth – Triple H vs. Roman Reigns: The Predictions

Welcome one, welcome all to WrestleMania Week here at SLTD Wrestling. We have been trudging through weeks and weeks of anticipation and speculation of what could unfold at this Sunday’s grand spectacle, but now just a few more days remain until the drama and excitement of WrestleMania comes flooding into our households, all for just $9.99 on the WWE Network. It’s a wonder I’m not getting paid for these “Sheamus Plugs”, but such is life.

You may have noticed over the last couple of weeks that Ciaran Legend, Kyle Bowman and I have been bringing you our perspectives on some of Sunday’s biggest match-ups. Ciaran has been looking at Shane McMahon’s high stakes bout with The Undertaker while Kyle took a glance at Dean Ambrose’s clash with Brock Lesnar.

I have been discussing the WWE World Heavyweight Championship Match between Triple H and Roman Reigns. You can journey back and read about The History and The Rivalry of the match at any time with a simple click.

This week, however, we get down to business and officially talk predictions. No more games, no more ifs, buts or maybes with regards to the past, this is all about what goes down this Sunday night and beyond.

One thing that goes without saying is that we are going to see a brawl unlike anything we’ve expected. The characters of Triple H and Roman Reigns absolutely hate one another, and at WrestleMania they’re going to stop at nothing to make sure they both leave it all in the ring in the efforts of one-upping their opponent.

Before I lend you my opinion on what’s going to go down, I’ve enlisted a few of our brightest mines at SLTD Wrestling to dish the dirt on what they’re expecting to happen with the lights on bright in the lone star state. Let’s have a look at what they have to say.

Callum Owen – @callumowen98

“In my opinion it’ll make most sense in this situation for Triple H retain, because imagine the scene if Reigns wins and gets booed by almost 100,000 people inside the AT&T Stadium, the noise would deafening, and it would prove that Vince McMahon’s pet project has failed for the second year running, and honestly this is how I see it going if Roman wins, either Reigns is met with boos or no reaction, the easiest idea is to make Triple H retain and the following night on Raw, Seth Rollins returns to challenge Triple H at Payback.”

Dan O’Shaughnessy – @dan089

“This match is going to be a brawl, the crowd will be anti Reigns but WWE have to expect that, but HHH is the master of getting heat, I feel by the end of it there will be more pro Reigns people, because of how the match will go! I see Reigns winning with a clean finish standing tall maybe even a handshake from The Game HHH afterwards.”

Haydn Fox – @WWETOWNnation

“I’m going to keep this one short and sweet… Let’s just say we all know who’s going to win and your winner will be Roman Reigns (as much as I hate to say that).”

Kieran Towers – @kieranthekiz

“I’m surprised this story needed the World Heavyweight Title to tell it, I feel the history between the two they could have had a different stipulation match, however, the title just adds to the need of Reigns to win this one.
Obviously the crowd will be very mixed and I predict the boo’s will sound out the cheers, but it’ll make for a fantastic atmosphere and feel of the match.
Expecting a Roman Reigns victory but I get the feeling we’ll see a surprise twist at the end of this one either during or after the match.”

Thomas Robinson – @TomRobinson5199

“I think the finish to this match was set up months ago. I’ve speculated on my own blog and on SLTD Wrestling about other potential endings but I don’t believe that plans are changing this time. Roman Reigns will be walking out of WrestleMania as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. The only question is how will WWE execute it? Will it involve a double turn? Will it end up NOT being the main event of the show? I guess we’ll have to wait and see.”

So there you have it. It seems about 4-1 in favour of a Roman Reigns victory this Sunday at WrestleMania and I’m not surprised. Personally I’d love to see some sort of swerve where neither Triple H nor Roman Reigns walks out as champion. Not that I’m not a fan of either man, but there just doesn’t appear to be a clear cut result that would set the Texas crowd’s mind at ease apart from someone completely different carrying home the strap.

Between the two, allowing Triple H to retain is the smarter option based solely on crowd response, especially were the match to go the distance in the main event. But we’ve seen this before.

John Cena vs. The Rock at WrestleMania 29, a year after their rivalry should have been laid to rest permanently, told a very similar story. The part-time champ got dominated by the newer breed, and the crowd hated it.

WrestleMania 32 is on a much larger scale given the boundaries WWE is trying to break, but they’re not exactly the company who’ll learn from their mistakes after one try, so it’s really hard to pin the decision on one guy walking out. My prediction is that we see something completely unexpected unfold in the main event (and don’t even think about a run-in from The Rock, that horse has been beaten half to death far too many times).

I do think there will be a decisive winner though and for story sake, or rather, just so we receive some closure in the tale of Roman Reigns and Triple H, that winner has to be Roman Reigns. The rivalry’s been going on for far too long, and Triple H is not the full-time athlete he once was. I’m afraid whether or not the night finishes that way, Roman Reigns is going to have his arm raised in victory at some point.

Should Shane McMahon win the Hell in a Cell match against The Undertaker, maybe he’ll swerve us and give someone like Kevin Owens or Finn Bálor a match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship before the night is out, as his first act as the man in power. I wouldn’t hold my breath though.

Either way, Roman Reigns will conquer Triple H. It’s just a matter of what happens next.

Winner: Roman Reigns
