The Build Up

This match has been put together quite quickly, sadly. After the Backlash PPV, there wasn’t a set title match ready for the MitB PPV. Nor was there any sign of a singles match on the card. However, on SmackDown on 6th June, Lana returned and wanted to be in the Money in the Bank match. Shane said no and by the end of the night she had a title shot. This means we get our match of Namoi vs Lana. This booking makes no sense. Why are title shots so easy to come by?  Surely they need to be earned?

What would happen if Naomi retained?

I’m not Namoi’s biggest fan I’ll admit, but she needs to retain the belt. Having someone get a title match and pinning the champion makes no sense. If Naomi wins then I see her carrying on her reign, until the MitB briefcase gets cashed in. When it does, she’ll drop the title then. Until that time, Naomi needs to retain.

What would happen if Lana won?

It would be an monumental earthquake within the SmackDown Women’s Division to say the least. If Lana had some more TV ring time then she’d be a more credible threat. If this match hand’t been thrown together stupidly then she’d be more credible. Plus if Lana wins and someone cashes in the briefcase straight away, who will remember Lana’s reign as champion?

How should it be booked?

This match should be, hopefully, a no brainer to book. Naomi needs to let Lana look strong, otherwise it’ll kill her character before it’s started. Similarly, Naomi needs the win. A nice back and forth match will do the trick and send the fans home happy. If the briefcase is going to get cashed in straight away, Lana needs to be physical, allowing to her “aide” whoever cashes in.
