This week’s WWMD takes a slightly different twist; instead of being What Would Matt Do, for one week only, we get to see Who Would Matt Drop. Who knows, if it generates a buzz it may return, if only to show a picture of Dixie Carter. Sorry couldn’t help myself
The Raw roster is totally jam packed with talent right now and not everyone is getting exposure. This all goes back to the mistake they made at the draft with the number of wrestlers allocated to Raw, alongside Raw creative being as creative as grey wall. I’m deliberately ignoring all the wrestlers signed for the Cruiserweight Classic as they are (rightfully so) getting their own WWE Network show and also ignoring the injured wrestlers list too.
#1 Titus O’Neil
I’m a big fan of Titus and it pains me to put him first on this list, it really does. Creatively he could have many different angles, both to work through on a storyline and also to his character as a wrestler. However, there is very little that is going on with him worthwhile at the moment. He has seen a lot of action in WWE, both as a tag team and as a singles wrestler, and has potential to go on well, if booked properly.
#2 Curtis Axel
I feel for Axel, I really do. He has a lot going for him and can get the crowd behind him easily as a face and can work the ring equally well as a heel. He’s had a few storylines of note but nothing has really caught fire with him as he’s had a run of back luck at times. I’d love to see him settle into the midcard as a comfortable go to guy (similar to Chris Benoit/Jericho in the late 1990s/early 2000s) who can work, and work well.
#3 Bo Dallas
Bo confuses me. He started off with a hot streak which then got canned. He then did some random gimmick work which then got canned. Then he started to come back with the Social Outcasts, which then got canned. Are you seeing a pattern here? Again, there are multiple options for Dallas to work with – I was really behind the Bo-lieve gimmick he had and it was cheesy enough to work. He could even join up with his brother in The Wyatt Family.
#4 Darren Young
Excitement was the word when I heard Young was being teamed up with Bob Backlund and what could possibly happen from that point on wards. Then, it fizzled out quite quickly. He had a mini feud of sorts with O’Neil which didn’t really go anywhere and now he’s back in limbo land, as is Backlund . You also don’t treat a legend like Backlund like this either. I’d be more than happy to see Young team up with Backlund in a decent, long story line which is planned out. But for right now, he needs work.
#5 Jinder Mahal
Again, like with Darren Young, I was excited when Jinder was re-hired by WWE. Then, he was wasted. It frustrated me a lot – why re-hire a guy who could do a lot and only have him to sit on the side lines looking on. He could tag team, he could gimmick wrestle, he could have decent, fun match ups, but what do we get? Hardly anything.
So the question is then, what to do with these five wrestlers? Here are some options:
Plan A – Raw invades NXT
This plan could either work fantastically well, or back fire crazy bad. By Raw invading NXT, it legitamises NXT as the 3rd brand of WWE. It gives these wrestlers time to work with their NXT counterparts. It helps to pass on their experience and generally help build up some new names. This can only help the brand after losing so many during the Draft.
Plan B – Raw invades Evolve
Again, similar to the NXT invasion – everyone is a winner. Each wrestler on that list could easily play a heel in Evolve and help put over their talent (prior to making the transition to WWE) and put some money into Evolve pockets to help them out too. We could see a Raw invasion which would force Evolve talent to work together (both good guys and bad) to combat the WWE threat. This could easily follow through to when Evolve talent debuts on Raw.
Plan C – Give them all some time off
I’m a big, big fan of having an off season in WWE but it wouldn’t work. So why not give them some time off? Some time to heal, some time to relax and to come back fresh faced. Then they could all return at the same time as a faction. Congratulations, we have the start of a storyline straight away!
