*ALL NEW* #MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly. Wednesday February 3rd, Beach Break #AEWDynamite Ep.70 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, February 3rd edition of AEW Dynamite, Beach Break.

Number 1 Contender Tag Team Battle Royal

Dynamite kicks off with the tag team battle royal, winner receives a tag title shot at Revolution, but if the Young Bucks win they get to choose who they face at Revolution. Other then the champions being in this match, four of the ten teams are in the rankings, FTR were storyline suspended for their actions from last week who are the number one ranked team. All of Dark Order came out together, and all of Inner Circle came out together, I don’t know why Guevara & Hager, and Santana & Ortiz were in this match if they lost a few weeks ago in the Inner Circle triple threat but I guess I’m supposed to look passed it, I’m not going to though, that made no sense. The Young Bucks out last as the champions started the match by jumping from the ramp to the floor. Unlike most tag team battle royals where only one partner needs to be eliminated this made more sense, but for the most part the match was a cluster with not a lot to follow until close to the end.

The Good Brothers came to ringside, and helped eliminate Private Party which for some reason distracted Nick Jackson which caused him to be eliminated. Leading to the final six, Chris Jericho, MJF, Sammy Guevara, Darius Martin, Max Caster, and Jungle Boy. Jungle Boy goes out first thanks to MJF. Max Caster holds MJF for Sammy to super kick him only for MJF to escape and Caster gets kicked, MJF goes to eliminate Caster but its turned around MJF is out. Then Darius Martin eliminates Caster. While Guevara is fighting with Darius, Jericho goes to eliminate Darius but accidently without realizing, eliminates Guevara. Down to Jericho and Darius Martin, Jericho ducks a clothesline and flips Martin over then hits a Judas Effect for the elimination and the victory.

Also later in the night Jericho and MJF wanted to celebrate their victory with the rest of the Inner Circle, but none of them looked to be in the mood to celebrate especially Sammy Guevara who walks out after being clearly frustrated with Jericho, who goes after him to talk. MJF then tells the rest of the group that it’s time they had a discussion and he makes Wardlow get rid of the camera man.

Segment Rating: 5.25/10

I didn’t like this at all. In my opinion the wrong team won, I expected The Young Bucks to win to set up their match with The Good Brothers, that felt like the only reason for the Young Bucks to be in this match other then that it felt pointless. Jericho and MJF aren’t going to win the tag titles from the Young Bucks, so this match doesn’t need to happen at Revolution but it is and it seems as though this will be the match that leads to the end of the Inner Circle or at least Sammy Guevara’s affiliation with the group. I thought this was done wrong. I’d prefer that the Inner Circle storyline building on it’s own instead of wasting time with a tag title match.

Britt Baker vs. Thunder Rosa

Hands down, the best women’s match in AEW history. This isn’t a surprise, these are the two best women wrestlers in AEW, I’d include Riho, Serena Deeb, and Hikaru Shida in that category as well. This match started off slow and built up to a definitive finish and I loved it. There was some great transitions and some good mat wrestling as well. Both women wanted to go out and have a hell of a match and they did. Late in the match, Rebel got involved by entering the ring and removing the middle turnbuckle pad, which distracted Thunder Rosa. Britt tries to capitalize with a roll up holding the tights but Rosa kicked out. Britt then hits a reverse STO into the exposed middle turnbuckle, and that knocks out Rosa, which allows Britt to lock in the Lockjaw to an out cold Thunder Rosa, the ref calls for the bell and Britt is victorious.

Later in the night the participants were announced for the Women’s tournament for the Women’s Championship shot at Revolution, in my opinion Britt Baker is the only one who should win that.

Segment Rating: 6.75/10

I really enjoyed this match. The right person won as Britt continues to get big wins leading to her eventual title match with Shida which as I mention will come from her winning that tournament because nobody else should win it. Thunder Rosa is a great performer and her time in AEW will come for right now she’s the one here to make the rest look good and that’s fine.

“Hangman” Adam Page & Matt Hardy vs. Chaos Project

This match was put together as sort of a make good for Page to show the Dark Order that he didn’t mean anything by not joining the Dark Order and as a way for them to take out Chaos Project for the Brodie Jr. birthday celebration being ruined. There really isn’t a lot to talk about the match as a whole as it was mostly about the story. Matt put this match together, Page doesn’t want to team but does it anyway. Page is still feeling odd about teaming with anyone because of his history with The Elite and being in a group coming back to bite him. Page did most of the work, as he was in most of the time and Matt barely did anything. Page hit the Buckshot Lariat and Matt tagged himself in just to make the pin, in a gloating manner. Page didn’t looked pleased about this but raised Matt’s hand anyway.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

As I mentioned there was nothing really to talk about match wise. It wasn’t a horrible match it was passable, it was really all about Hangman. There continues to be more wrinkles added to his story, which is hands down the most interesting story going on in AEW at the moment. I hope it leads to big things for him in the future and I’m excited to see where it goes.

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford Wedding

This segment was way too long. It felt like a time waster more then anything. So James Mitchell is the minister for the wedding. Miro is wearing the same outfit he wore at his TV wedding to Lana in 2015. Throughout Mitchell speaking he was throwing in weird words that had Kip Sabian looking at the audience in confusion. Instead of saying “to have and to hold”, he said “to have and to grope, kayfabing others for so long as you both shall live”, that was comical. Mitchell goes to ask if there’s anyone who believes these two should not be wed, but Miro steps in and says he’s been to enough of these and we aren’t doing that today and tells him to move on.

They get through the ceremony and Mitchell announces Miro is going to give a toast. Miro says he didn’t do much, and he may not have gotten a gift, but his presence is what matters, and that’s his gift. As he’s speaking he notices a large gift, that he never seen before, Chuck Taylor says it’s from him. Miro destroys it thinking its a trap of some kind and he tells Chuck to go out and clean it up. Miro goes to continue speaking and says “What is love”, and the crowd sings “Baby don’t hurt me, don’t hurt me, no more.”, Miro notices and does it again and then says “shut up this is my wedding.” During this Chuck puts a handcuff on Miro’s foot, and puts the other end on the rope. Chuck enters the ring and hits Kip which leads to Kip bumping into Penelope and her face going into the cake. Kip goes to hit Chuck back and accidently hits Miro which planted the seeds of that break up. Then Orange Cassidy comes out of the cake, and Cassidy hits the Beach Break finisher on Kip to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 4.5/10

This was your trope full wrestling wedding segment, and the constant acknowledgement of said tropes. It was really long, and I only explained as detailed as I did because of how funny it was, but it definitely didn’t need to be this long at all. I had a feeling this would be used to plant the seeds of Miro eventually going out on his own which needs to happen because he should be a main eventer. I guess we’re gonna get another tag match between Best Friends and Miro & Kip, and I feel Best Friends will win and that’s when Miro will snap and turn on Kip.

Lumberjack Match: Eddie Kingston vs. Lance Archer

This match was all over the place, in a bad way. Early on Archer dived onto a pile of heels outside the ring. The lumberjacks got involved physically immediately, every once in a while, Archer and Kingston would do some nice sequences in the ring, but it would always lead to more involvement from the lumberjacks, the referee had absolutely no control over this match at all. Jake Roberts got involved physically by clotheslining Angelico on the outside. at one point The Bunny would get in the ring and try to choke Archer who would turn it into a blackout attempt but Kingston would hit a spinning backfist to save her. At one point Blade brings a table in the ring and one of the members of Bear Country spears him through the table, a lot craziness in this match. Eddie goes for the backfist again, after recovering from a uranage by Archer, the backfist is blocked, and Archer follows it up with the blackout for the win.

Segment Rating: 5/10

I didn’t love the fact that this match was out of control immediately, but it wasn’t a bad match at all, this was another passable match. Kingston got the win last time due to shenanigans but Archer got the win in a more definitive manner but I don’t know if this is still going on or it’s over. I think it’s time for these two to move on. I don’t need this match again or another combination of tag matches that include these two or anything like that.

Kenny Omega & The Good Brothers vs. Jon Moxley & Death Triangle (PAC & Rey Fenix)

This was a great match as expected, and as per usual Fenix stole the show in a multi-man match as he always does. There was a nice double moonsault spot by Fenix and PAC to the outside on the Good Brothers. A lot of great back and forth action, Kenny hit a nasty looking top rope draped snap dragon suplex, on Fenix which looked so good, which Fenix somehow kicked out of. Mox and Kenny were trading shots at one point and Kenny is hitting knee strikes and Mox turns it around with a big lariat shot. Fenix single handedly takes out the Good Brothers with a dropkick to Gallows and a hook kick to Anderson and sends them outside. Then a big Senton to the outside on Karl. Then Kenny and Moxley are going at it and Kenny hits Moxley with the Paradigm Shift, and PAC comes in off the top rope and hits a 450 splash to break the pin. Following this Anderson charges and Moxley and Moxley hits the Gun Stun on Anderson. So few aspects of trading and stealing signature moves was a nice little sequence as well. Fenix hits a moonsault press on Anderson for a near fall, then he dives in a nice looking Spinebuster, and its followed up by Magic Killer for the pin and the win.

Post match, Kenny and The Good Brothers attack Fenix and Moxley and Lance Archer comes out for the save. Mox recovers and goes for Kenny, and a masked man enters the ring, it’s KENTA, he hits Moxley with a GTS, Kenny puts his foot on Moxley and celebrates to end the show.

Also, an interesting thing that happened on social media immediately following this. Kenny Omega followed KENTA to the parking lot and wanted to catch up with him and speak but KENTA walked off and said I only came for Moxley. Then Kenny looked at the camera, and spoke directly to Tony Khan and said he wants a tag match next week, Kenny Omega and KENTA versus Jon Moxley and Lance Archer next week.

Segment Rating: 7/10

Okay so there’s a lot to unpack here, but first things first. KENTA showing up is a huge deal because this proves that New Japan Pro Wrestling is willing to work with AEW and this is big. There was a legitimate Bullet Club member and shirt on AEW, as much as marks on the internet might not think so, that is a huge deal. On this show alone, we had representation from, AEW, IMPACT, NWA and NJPW, that’s big. The possibilities here are endless, this could help everyone involved. I’m very excited to see what comes next out of these relationships as they get bigger and stronger. As for this match it was really good, everyone looked good nobody was hurt in the process. What all this means is what I’m curious about and curious why there was no sign of the Young Bucks during any of this either so hopefully that gets addressed, my intrigue continues to rise on this front, and that’s what they are supposed to do.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the week is Britt Baker.

Britt Baker gets the RWOW this week because she killed it in her match with Thunder Rosa. Moving onward and upward to that tournament like I mentioned she must win because they are just delaying the inevitable, she needs to be the one to beat Shida sooner rather then later, why not at Revolution.

Overall

The special Beach Break episode of AEW Dynamite was not a bad show at all. Overall I give this show a 5.7 out of 10. I enjoyed a lot of the wrestling on this show. The Wedding segment was exactly what I expected, and it dragged. All around I enjoyed this show and we will see what happens with all that is happening going forward.
