*ALL NEW* #MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly. Wednesday September 30th #AEWDynamite Ep.52 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, September 30th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Darby Allin vs. Ricky Starks

AEW Dynamite opened with a grudge match of sorts between Darby and Starks. Ricky made his entrance holding a body bag with Darby’s face and name on it. Darby would have a video done by a rapper named JPEGMAFIA, who states that Starks will regret what he’s done to Darby in the past. These guys actually had the best wrestling match they’ve had in this one, they’ve had no dq matches that were great, but this was a pure wrestling match that went over very well. There was a lot of back and forth action, they played up the personal feud the two have had as well as having Taz on commentary to speak on behalf of Starks. During the match Brian Cage would try to interfere but he would be thwarted by Will Hobbs. Starks would hit a good looking mid-air spear off a springboard for a near fall, after this he’d hoist Darby onto the top rope, but Darby would knock Starks off with a kick to the face and hit a coffin drop for the pin.

Segment Rating: 6/10

This was a very good match and it needs to be the end of this feud. These two have been feuding for a long time and Darby as gotten the win almost every time. There’s nothing more that can be done here, this was a good ending to it, and it’s time for Darby to move on to bigger and better things. As for Starks he’s a great talent who can do it all, but he needs to build momentum and get some wins, moving forward.

Cody Addresses Brodie Lee/Brawl

Cody comes out for an in-ring interview with Dasha Gonzalez, he talks about getting the call from Hollywood, and how he doesn’t deserve be in talked about in the same breathe as his co-stars on his game show, and that all he could think about was him being the guy who lost to Brodie Lee in three minutes. He also talks about people calling him the Ace of AEW but the only people that can lay claim to that title are Hikaru Shida, Jon Moxley, and Brodie Lee, for being the champions of the show. He continues and when asked about the challenge by Brodie Lee for a Dog Collar Match and whether he accepts, he says no and leaves the ring. He then stops at the stage, turns around and grabs the mic and says “No as in no regrets” and that he accepts the match for next week on Dynamite.

As soon as he makes this proclamation Brodie runs out and a giant pull apart brawl begins. All of Dark Order comes out as well trying to hold Brodie back, and when Brandi Rhodes comes out she jumps on the pile of Dark Order members. When she gets up she locks eyes with Anna Jay who she begins to brawl with as well, so now two brawls are going on at the same time. Also while the ladies are brawling someone gets shoved into Nyla Rose who is in the crowd, and she starts striking people as well.

Cody and Brodie got broken up numerous times but once the brawl finally ended we see Cody in the ring and Brodie on the stage staring at each other, ready for next week.

Segment Rating: 6/10

I feel like Cody has most passionate promo in the business every time he picks up a mic and he did it again here. He sold you a ticket which is what the promo is supposed to do. Also the brawl between the two was your run-of-the-mill pull part but it also did what it was supposed to do which is push how personal this has become between the two even with Cody being gone filming things. I’m looking forward to the match big time and I think it’s gonna be a good one.

World Tag Team Championship 20 Minute Brush With Greatness: FTR (c) vs. SCU (Frankie Kazarian & Scorpio Sky)

Before this match took place we see Tony Schiavone interview FTR backstage and they talk about doing Best Friends a favor last week because they were not 100 percent from their match the week prior, then they talk about SCU who despite being the first AEW tag team champions, they aren’t on FTR’s level either. In the middle of the promo The Young Bucks (or at least I think it was the Young Bucks, I saw two feet but one person so), hit Tony Schiavone with a badly shot superkick that Tony clearly didn’t know how to take. Matt Jackson would state that he didn’t know an interview was going on and that he didn’t mean to interrupt, FTR would wonder why they didn’t get attacked as just Matt Jackson walks away.

The match, being a 20 minute match instead the standard 60 like most title matches, was very fast paced because of this fact. The chemistry was clearly there and this was a very enjoyable back and forth match. Tully Blanchard made sure his presence was known through out the match. Also “Hangman” Adam Page, was on commentary and drinking the entire time, not really addressing anything related to Kenny Omega. The finish of this match saw Scorpio Sky go for an outside-in suplex on Cash, but Tully sweeps the leg with his hand and holds the foot down with added leverage from Dax for the three count.

Segment Rating: 6/10

This was a very good match that continued the winning streak of FTR as we expected it would, and it was very enjoyable. FTR has been relying a little too much on Tully Blanchard to be the deciding factor in their matches which I don’t love seeing every single week. At first they were just winning matches and doing it decisively, so I’m hoping for less manager interference in the future, and it’s clear they will be heading to match with Best Friends down the line. As for SCU they are kind of taking a backseat right now and that’s fine this division is after all very stacked.

Chris Jericho vs. Isiah Kassidy

This was not an amazing match but it was a fine match. Jericho had the upper hand as expected for the majority of the match. Unfortunately for Kassidy it was never believable that he could beat Jericho and it was proven right here. Earlier in the match Luthor had got some shots in on Jericho when they crossed paths while Luther was in the crowd. The end of the match saw Kassidy hit a flurry of moves for numerous two counts, but that would all be for not, as Jericho hit the Judas Effect for the pin.

Following the match all of Inner Circle would try to enter the ring but they’d be chased off by Marq Quen and a limping Matt Hardy holding a chair. Then Jericho and Hager attacked Luther and Serpentico to set a tag match between the two next week.

Also it was announced that a tournament will be taking place to crown a new number 1 contender for the world championship at Full Gear, and three participant were announced, Rey Fenix, Jungle Boy, and Kenny Omega. Hearing this made Adam Page very distraught and when asked his thoughts he would walk away.

Segment Rating 5/10

This match went exactly as I expected, it really didn’t feel important at all especially after the bad promo segment last week that set it up. I don’t know what is really going on with Jericho at all. We saw later in the night that in the night that MJF would go to Inner Circle’s locker room, and present gifts of Inner Circle jackets to every member except Sammy Guevara whose apparently go lost in the mail. Jericho asked MJF if he wants to join Inner Circle, and MJF asked Jericho if Jericho wants him to join the Inner Circle. They go back and forth for a little and MJF chooses to leave, and tells them to enjoy the jackets. Sammy goes to call MJF a loser, and Jericho cuts him off and says “maybe he isn’t”.

So it appears this is leading to a Full Gear match between Jericho and MJF which surely would be a hell of a match, so we’ll see where that goes from here I guess.

Orange Cassidy vs. Preston “10” Vance

This is was a very short match, that Orange Cassidy won decisively. Every member of Dark Order with the exception of Brodie Lee, Stu Grayson, Evil Uno, and I guess Anna Jay, are made to look like losers and continue to be losers. That didn’t change here as Orange Cassidy gained control of the match and never lost it. The finisher came when Cassidy hit a DDT, an Orange Punch and the Beach Break for the pin.

Segment Rating: 4/10

All this match was, was a time waster and nothing else. There was no substance to it, there was no intrigue, there was nothing. Cassidy won and that’s it. I’m very unsure what Orange Cassidy is doing now, I wonder if they are waiting for Cody versus Brodie to end, to put him in another true program. Unless he’s in the tournament but even if he is I don’t expect him to win it.

Britt Baker vs. Red Velvet

This was Britt Baker’s first match back and it was exactly what it needed to be, a decisive victory. Red Velvet has been seen as a reliable talent who probably deserves to be signed. She made Baker look like a million bucks, and Baker somehow got better after not competing in a real match for five months. She was aggressive, she was precise, and she was dominant. She hit a great looking fisherman’s neckbreaker, and won with something similar to a curb stomp. Then put the lock jaw on after the match with a medical glove.

Segment Rating: 5/10

As I mention this match was exactly what it needed to be, and Britt looked great in a dominant match. They have to start building her up again to lead to a championship match maybe as soon as Full Gear, and she should absolutely win the belt when it happens.

AEW World Championship: Jon Moxley (c) vs. The Butcher

Before the match took place and Eddie revealed who was facing Moxley, Kingston cut a promo talking about how he didn’t tap out last week and he questions the referee, Bryce Remsberg what gave him the balls to call for the bell. Remsberg says he goes back 18 years with Kingston, and they are friends, but that’s outside the ring, inside the ring it’s his job to protect Eddie from himself, and he called for the bell because Eddie was unresponsive. Eddie was gonna have the Lucha Bros. attack Remsberg but Moxley made the save. Then Kingston would introduces Moxley’s challenger tonight, The Butcher, who shows up behind Moxley and hits a clothesline before the bell.

The match saw The Butcher take advantage out the gate after the clothesline, and he worked on the leg of Moxley from the early outset. The match saw a lot of back and forth action between the two, trading suplexes and heavy shots throughout. The finish came when Mox hit the Paradigm Shift seemingly out of nowhere after both men had gotten to their feet after a running crossbody by The Butcher, then Moxley locked in the Bulldog Choke to get the submission and another stellar victory and title defense for the champion.

Moxley stands victorious as Eddie Kingston looks on aggravated about it as the show ends.

Segment Rating: 6/10

The thing I took away from this match the most was that The Butcher can go with the best of them. We’ve never seen him in this environment before and he had a hell of a match with the champion. Moxley came out on top again of course, because that’s what he does and is still undefeated in singles competition. Where this goes from here I have no clue, Lance Archer will be due back next week as far as I know and he is still receiving his title shot on 10/14. So where does this leave Kingston? Will it end up being a triple threat on 10/14? We’ll have to wait and see.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, Cody.

The reason for this choice, is Cody did what he does best, sold a ticket to the upcoming match. He was passionate, as always, and the brawl that followed felt personal and made the upcoming Dog Collar Match between Cody and Brodie Lee mean that much more, and that’s why Cody gets the RWOW.

Overall

So that’s all the highlights for this episode of AEW Dynamite on September 30th, overall I give this show a 5 out of 10. A few pretty good matches, and couple of matches with no direction is the reason for the rating, as some things on this show meant nothing and didn’t move anyone forward. Darby Allin/Ricky Starks was the ending a feud (I hope), the main event was the continuation of one, but a lot of the middle of this show was either good wrestling with no direction or nothing matches with no direction.
