*ALL NEW* #MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly. Wednesday September 9th #AEWDynamite Ep.49 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the fifth edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Wednesday, September 9th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Weird Jericho/MJF Open

Dynamite opened with Tony Schiavone in the parking lot meeting Chris Jericho and MJF in the middle of two exact same cars. Jericho and MJF basically pretend to complement eachother saying they both feel the other should have won at All Out and telling the other they will be world champion one day. Then they walked away in opposite directions, and we see a split screen with both uttering to themselves, “What a loser.”

Lucha Bros. vs. Jurassic Express

This match started directly after the previous segment and there was a lot of fast paced back and forth action. Each team jocking for position in the tag team division. A lot of great double team maneuvers by the Lucha Bros., Jungle Boy would even kick out of a stomp-package piledriver combo. Luchasaurus hit a great looking toss chokeslam on Fenix off of a springboard. The finish came when the Penta went to hit a destroyer on Jungle Boy but he got out of it and Penta accidentally hit it on Fenix (somehow, I guess because luchadors), which lead to Jungle Boy scoring a school boy pin for the win.

After the match the Lucha Bros. were arguing with eachother and shoving eachother when Butcher, Blade and Eddie Kingston entered the ring to get them to calm down and make up. Eddie basically acted like a parent telling thr brothers to hug it out for more then three minutes. He also took a shot at PAC, during this segment. It dragged a for a while until they finally made up, and Eddie would add that he never lost the battle royale at All Out, and said to check the tape.

Segment Rating: 5/10

I rather enjoyed this match for the most part, the promo after though, dragged on what seemed like forever. Both these teams have been looking for wins to climb the ranks, Jurassic Express haven’t had a lot to do storyline wise the past few months. This Eddie Kingston thing with the Lucha Bros., Butcher and Blade needs some direction because right now it just feels like nothing.

Matt Hardy Speaks

Matt Hardy comes to the ring and cuts a very real promo about his health after All Out. He talks about the scary fall that lead to his injury and that he was thankful for all the support he received from fans after it happened. He also states the Broken Rules Match wasn’t what he intended but it was probably for the better. He apologized to hks wife, who was in the crowd with their youngest child, as well as his other two sons at home. Matt closed with stating he will heal up and return, and will chase the world title and his journey isn’t over because of the fans.

Segment Rating: 5/10

I felt this segment was fine and was straight to the point, we all saw the fall Matt Hardy took at All Out and I think it was the right move and we will be excited to see him back when he is ready whether he’s injured or not.

Angelico vs. Orange Cassidy

This match was short, and too the point, and got Orange Cassidy another win. The finish came when Cassidy hit a crossbody, then a satellite DDT, and then thr Orange Punch for the win. Angelico and Jack Evans have been heavily featured on AEW Dark since the beginning of the year and it just seems like they are just there to put people over which is fine I guess.

Immediately following this match, Cassidy was attacked by Santana & Ortiz. Commentary said this was to get revenge for Jericho when in reality it was to get the attention of The Best Friends who came out to make the save and challenge Santana & Ortiz to a Parking Lot Fight.

Segment Rating: 6/10

This was good to get Orange Cassidy some added momentum off two straight wins of Chris Jericho. I was thoroughly pleased to see a squash match in AEW at all and happy it was given to Cassidy to keep his momentum. I also very much enjoyed The Best Friends promo to set up next week’s match, and probably put a close on that feud as well.

Kip Sabian’s “Best Man”

Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford enter the ring and ask Tony Schiavone to leave who was there to interview them. Sabian said he’s going straight to the point and wants to reveal his best man. Out comes a large man named Puff, who they claim to be a Twitch subscriber and he misunderstood him when Kip told him he was the “best subscriber” and Kip tells him to leave.

Sabian welcomes the best man again, this time out comes Brian Pillman Jr., who Sabian claimed was bugging him all week about being the best man, and there’s another misunderstanding, stating he told Pillman “You’re the best, man” and said it was to get Pillman off his back because they’re not even friends.

Sabian announces the best man again, and out comes, the debuting, FKA Rusev, Miro. He is going by the moniker of “The Best Man” Miro. He gets in the ring and cuts a promo stating, “10 years in the same house, under the same glass ceiling, with an imaginary brass ring.” He says “You can take that brass ring and shove it up your ass.” He says elite recognizes the elite. He’s not just Kip’s best man but “He is the best man.” He closes it out by saying “My name is Miro and I am All Elite.”

Segment Rating: 4/10

This segment would have been rated much higher if not for the first two fake outs, I felt this was very, very unnecessary, however the reveal of Miro, and the promo that followed was great. This is a former WWE talent that I welcome to AEW with open arms, and hope he worked out a deal to also to go to New Japan when that is possible. This is the one talent out of all the WWE April releases. Miro is a star, he’s a future World Champion anywhere he goes and I can’t wait to see him work in AEW after this thing with Kip Sabian passes.

The Elite Story Continues

Throughout the night we had separate segments from the members of The Elite. Alex Marvez tried to get a word out of the Young Bucks regarding All Out and Kenny, he knocked numerous times, and looked at the camera looking confused, they opened the door and super kicked him. It was later revealed that they were “fined 5,000 dollars.”

Hangman Adam Page was interviewed by Tony Schiavone, Hangman says that he feels stupid for costing the Young Bucks a shot at the tag titles and befriending FTR, and he’s not sure what is next for him and Kenny as a team, but this is their toughest test.

Later on in the night, Kenny Omega was interviewed by Jim Ross. He says that he had these expectations put upon him to perform at a certain level as a singles star but being paired with Hangman led him down a different path. Jim Ross would ask Kenny what is next for him, Kenny says he sees how deep the tag division is now wnd thr journey him and Hangman went on to reach the top, but he doesn’t like the Hangman he sees now and he’s ready to go back to singles competition.

No DQ Match: Inner Circle (Chris Jericho & Jake Hager) vs. Joey Janela & Sonny Kiss

This match almost seemed personal for no reason but then I remembered that Jericho and Janela faced last week. Jericho and Hager were in control early. Both teams tried to get a lot of offense in and seems to me they’ve been trying to get Janela and Kiss to showcase a little more offense in their matches despite always losing as a team. Janela would introduce weapons which Jericho and Hager woulf usually get the upper hand. Hager spinebudters Janela through a table from the ramp to the floor. The finish came when Sonny Kiss was on the top rope and Jericho sprayed him with a fire extinguisher and Hager would follow it up by hitting a uranage and an arm triangle without a tap out but a pinfall for the win.

Following the match Jericho would get on the mic, and complain about All Out, and say he’s moving past it and that he and Hager are going to build more wins in the tag division to get a tag title shot.

Segment Rating: 5/10

I have a problem with Jericho and Hager going for the tag titles because there’s already a tag team in the Inner Circle. This declaration that Jericho and Hager going for the tag titles, immediately limits Santana & Ortiz, now could this possibly lead to tension within the group, absolutely but I don’t know if it will. This match in general was fine, it did what it waa supposed to do. Janela and Kiss are fall guys currently because the tag divison is so stacked. There’s no need for Jericho and Hager to move there it would be completely okay for Jericho to do commentary until his next singles feud.

MJF/Wardlow Friction

MJF would complain about his campaign being a failure and would fire the entire campaign team. Then Wardlow would go to speak and MJF would cut him off and demean him. Wardlow would show his frustration but MJF would remind him that Wardlow doesn’t work for AEW, he works for MJF,and if they have a problem then MJF can just fire him. I figured this is exactly where this was going when we saw the end of the main event and i expect this ro build to these two facing eachother at Full Gear in November.

Lance Archer and Jake speak/Moxley Responds

Earlier in the night Jake and Archer warned Moxley that they are coming for him and that Moxley has nothing but despair to look forward to when they meet in the ring.

Moxley would respond later in the night first stating that defending a championship isn’t easy, but anything worth having never is and the only way to be champion is to crawl through a milr of crap to climb a mountain. He says he doesn’t see anything but a man when he sees Lance Archer, and and Archer has to ask himself “you really wanna bet agaisnt me?”

FTR AEW Tag Team Championship Celebration

FTR was in the ring and the ring was surrounded by all the face tag teams in AEW except The Young Bucks if you consider them faces, as well as Reynolds and Silver watching from the ramp. FTR with Tully Blanchard had a cake to celebrate. Tully calls them the best tag team in the world. Then they basically ran down all the face tag teams and why they don’t deserve to face them.

When they got to Jurassic Express, they said they’d never let a “comedy gimmick” run the tag division and they propose a toast to the “Dumbass Dinosaur” then toss wine at Luchasaurus, and they run away. Leading to Marco Stunt grabbing a cooler of ice and throwing it on FTR.

It was announced these two teams will face off in a non-title next week probably just a place hoder feud for now but should be a good match.

Segment Rating: 4/10

This was not great, it was fine for what it was meant to be which was to prepare for next weeks match. FTR basically just did a generic celebration here making fun of the face tag teams and it kind of fell flat to me.

Also there was a lot of talking on this show which also included Ricky Starks making fun of Darby which I’m not gonna discuss because it was pointless.

Nyla Rose (w/ Vicky Guerrero) vs. Tay Conti

This match for the most part was all Nyla, however I can honestly say this was Tay Conti’s best wrestling match ever. She looked very good in the offense she did hit and looked smooth in doing it. I liked all of her submission reversals, the match turned into the generic power house gets the upper hand hits finisher win. Nyla did get the win after breaking an armbar leading to a beast bomb for a pin.

After the match Nyla went to attack Conti again but Hikaru Shida made the save, which I guess means we’re doing that match again for some reason.

Segment Rating: 5/10

This match was fine as I said thr best match Tay Conti has ever had. I don’t know what they are doing with her yet, she got invited to the Dark Order and that hasn’t been acknowledged again on screen. I expected her to attack Shida and she didn’t. I’m not looking forward to Nyla vs. Shida again but it is what it is I guess. More women need to get a spotlight.

TNT Championship: Brodie Lee(c) vs. Dustin Rhodes

Dustin would attack Brodie during the intros and brawl to the outside with him. A lot of this match was back and forth, and very much Dustin “doing it for Cody”. Dustin hit a cross rhodes during the match. John Silver was at ringside throughout the match and he would get involved as well which Dustin was able to fight off. The finish came when they were trading punches and slaps and reversing signature moves until Brodie hit a series of thrust kicks and a discus lariat for the win.

Post match saw all of The Dark Order come out to celebrate with the lifeless body of QT Marshall. Brodie was show his frustration with Colt Cabana, stemming from their All Out loss, and tells Cabana to leave. Evil Uno would walk him to the back consoling him. No sign of Scorpio Sky or Matt Cardona.

Segment Rating: 6/10

This match and post match segment was great. The Dark Order are on top of the world and I don’t understand why they needed to lose at All Out to get here, but I guess it has to do with the Colt Cabana angle of this. Clearly they sre continuing to build this to a Cody return by continuing to hurt his family members.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is Miro.

His reveal and subsequent promo was great, not in regards to the context of his reveal because the segment leading to that was not good, however his promo, his obvious passion to prove how good he is and can be, and what I expect from him in the future where this is a good former WWE guy signing unlike, Matt Cardona.

Overall

So that’s all the highlights for this episode of AEW Dynamite on September 9th, overall I give this show a 5 out of 10. A lot of this show was middle of the road stuff following a pay-per-view. Orange Cassidy was great, the main event was great. The Miro debut was great despite the segment it took place in. I also felt we didn’t get enough out of the Elite to further that.
