Impact: March 1st 2016

Tonight’s Impact Wrestling is fresh off the heels of Lockdown 2016. Let’s take a look back at the action and developments from this episode of Impact.

Kurt Angle defeated Bobby Roode via submission with the Ankle Lock. It has also been written and speculated that Angle is “done” with TNA; and looking at other venues to continue his career. Perhaps with the changes with Shane McMahon coming back, could Angle find his way into WWE? It was also written via interview that Angle wants to reform an incarnation of Team Angle featuring Chad Gable and Jason Jordan.
Angle also had an in-ring promo and segment after the match, talking about dream-matches. In which, Angle’s prompting led to the American Wolves and Beer Money challenge. The Wolves agreed and accepted the challenge for a future bout.

In an ironic move and badly timed “shock value” led to a Rockstar Spud heel turn. The timing was a bit odd and rather difficult because we as fans were cheering this guy, and now we boo him? However, gladly the promo from EC3 and additional logic clarified this. The past history between Carter and Spud from one year ago and “reigniting the flame” makes much better sense. However, not much storyline development is made for under-card, and things outside of the tag team ranks and the main event stories. Even the Knockouts are just variations of the same match, and wrestling as the focal point.

In other developments, Gail Kim challenged Maria via a backstage promo. The Decay music video was featured, along with Abyss pinning Jimmy Havoc with a Black-hole Slam. Eric Young accompanied by Bram defeated Damo. Yet, surprisingly, Damo isn’t even featured on the roster. So how are we supposed to get behind this guy and see what he has for intangibles, that MAKE US WANT to watch, see Damo?

The Miracle Mike Bennett defeated Drew Galloway in singles competition. The main event is the unsanctioned street fight with Carter versus Spud. The main event featured a victory of Carter over Spud.

In closing, the overall opinion of this show is that it’s another great wrestling show. Unfortunately, storylines and developments not named Angle, Galloway, Bennett, EC3-Matt Hardy and the tag team ranks still continue to suffer. What will make this show more worthwhile for fans to sink their teeth into new stories? Furthermore, certain TV carriers unless it’s a package- fans cannot easily get access to Impact episodes; unless its on-demand or they pay for the package. So, what will Impact and TNA do about the ratings issue, and make fans tune in… LIVE?
