#MouthingOff with MikeJC: Dynamite Weekly, Friday June 11th #AEWDynamite Ep.88 (@MikeJC821)

Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Friday, June 11th edition of AEW Dynamite.

Angelico vs. Christian Cage

Dynamite kicks off with Matt Hardy in the ring with TH2 he says Christian is jealous of him and the money Matt has made throughout their careers.

Christian then came out to start the match. I didn’t love this one. Christian was working from behind throughout the match very much playing up that he couldn’t “keep up” with Angelico and part of me thinks he actually couldn’t. Also despite having a history of concussions Christian used a diving headbutt during his comeback and that is not an ideal move for someone with Christian’s history.

The match went pretty much how you would expect Angelico used his technical ability throughout to work on the arm of Christian and almost locked in the Navarro Death Roll but Christian fought it off hit his comeback and had to thrwart Jack Evans and Matt Hardy at ringside. Hit the Killswitch to secure the victory.

After the match Jack Evans tried to attack Christian but Christian fought back and turned around into a Twist of Fate by Matt Hardy. Jungle Boy would run out and make the save to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 4.75/10

This continues to build to the eventual one on one match between Matt Hardy and Christian and I’m sure that will be good based on their history I just hope Christian doesn’t look like he did tonight, he looked tired, really tired.

Cody’s “Special” Announcement

Tony Schiavone is in the ring and announces next week Aaron Solow & QT Marshall will be facing Cody and the debuting son of Arn Anderson, Brock Anderson. Cody Arn, and Brock come out and Cody says he knows Brock will that Brock will steal home even after being born on third base. Then Cody says he wouldn’t mind one bit to get revenge for losing to Ogogo last week.

This brings out QT who claims he beat Cody last week all by himself. He says it’s time for the vanity and nepotism to end. He wants another match with Cody this time back on the road July 7th in front of a full house in a “South Beach Strap Match”. Cody agrees and wants to do it now. QT smacks Arn and then gets taken down by Brock, QT gets away to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 3/10

Boy is this annoying. This feud needs to end and I really hope July 7th is the end. It’s been bad from day one and I hope Cody and QT are having fun because I think they are the only ones. Also they make a “special” announcement to bring in Arn Anderson’s son, and I hope he turns on Cody during the match causing Cody to lose again because a “lol Cody wins” scenario would not make sense here, and I wouldn’t care even more if QT pinned Brock Anderson clean.

Death Triangle (PAC & Penta El Zero Miedo) & Eddie Kingston vs. The Young Bucks & Brandon Cutler

This match was put together off the shenanigans of last week. Some notes here were PAC still doesn’t trust Eddie off their feud from last year, which makes sense. Nick Jackson dyed his hair the most annoying type of blonde and he looks ridiculous which helps the outlandish nature of his character transformation, and Brandon Cutler wore his young boy jump suit in the match which probably wasn’t fun to wrestle in.

There was a lot of action in this match as their always is in these types of matches and I loved Brandon Cutler basically getting beat up by his own team by accident. He basically couldn’t not get in the way. Everybody did their job here and looked good doing it. The spot where Penta was flipped into a destroyer by Nick on Matt was great. Eddie Kingston getting PAC on his side and them teaming up to do a double suicide dive was great. That almost backfired but PAC fought it off, and Eddie hit a backfist on Cutler to secure the victory.

After the match, The Young Bucks go on the attack and The Good Brothers come out to help as well, but Frankie Kazarian is out to even the odds as the they fight off The Elite memebers.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

This was basically the same Young Bucks multi-man match we get every two weeks. Wasn’t needed but it was a good match regardless. No idea what this is building to since Moxley is out with an “injury”/birth of his and his wife’s baby. Maybe another Death Triangle tag title shot is in the works but intil Moxley is back I can’t say I have any idea where this is going.

The Pinnacle Responds To Inner Circle

All The Pinnacle is out and they all basically address their respective rivals. Dax says that FTR are cut from the same cloth as Santana & Ortiz but a few stark differences and he had no problem taking food out their family’s mouths because he has his own family to feed. Cash adds and says he doesn’t have a family and doesn’t give a shit about their’s. Shawn Spears talks about Sammy Guevara and says hes nothing but an indie wrestler who could never beat him straight up, and Tully steps in to calm him down. Wardlow is next and says Hager is obsessed with him and won’t leave him alone, and he knows he can’t beat him in a wrestling ring thats why Hager challenged him to an MMA fight and he accepts. MJF says he’s tired because he is the best. He used to idolize Chris Jericho in his he cites July 2019 when he first saw Jericho in Jacksonville. Working with Chris should have been a dream come true, but it wasn’t. He says it turns out Jericho was just like everyone else. He’s already beaten him twice. He has nothing left to prove. He then told Sammy Guevara to keep his name out of his mouth.

Chris Jericho appears on the screen and says he warned The Pinnacle what happens when Inner Circle doesn’t get what they want, so now they are gonna have to walk home. The rest of the Inner Circle appear on screen and destroy The Pinnacle’s car with bats and hammers, spray paint and Hager drives a forklift into the limo and lifts it up. Then drive away flipping off the camera while The Pinnacle is calling for cops from the ring, to end the segment.

Segment Rating: 5.5/10

I loved The Pinnacle’s promo, especially the aggression by FTR, the Inner Circle stuff was fine and it was reminiscent of old school Stone Cold driving something and destroying things which is fine. Inner Circle is treading the line of heel and face and it’s getting corny which is okay but I just don’t know why that is needed really. As mentioned this leading to eventual respective singles and tag matches and then what? Who knows.

TNT Championship: Miro (c) vs. Evil Uno

This was great storytelling, they built this up as Evil Uno doing this for Brodie and Miro being the guy that is going to destroy that, and thats exactly what happened. The match was solid thr action was back and forth but Miro was just too strong for Uno. Also another great touch here was the Dark Order comes out to cheer on Uno but it doesn’t help. Miro overwhelmed Evil Uno and locked in the Game Over and waved at Brodie Jr. I love this Miro so much he’s so good.

Segment Rating: 6.25/10

This was my favorite thing on this show. Miro is doing what he should be doing, winning decisively. I’m hoping we get his next big feud soon I just have no idea who it would be. That’s my only concern right now with Miro but his character work is off thr charts right now, go watch the promo he cut outside with thunder in the background before this show, master class promo.

Kenny Omega Interview

Tony Schiavone is out to interview Kenny, amd he comes out with Don Callis, and they congratulate Jungle Boy on winning the battle royale at Double Or Nothing, but just like that band that sings his theme song he’s a one hit wonder. Kenny says Jungle Boy reminds him of a younger Kenny but something is missing? He says Jungle Boy doesn’t have guts.

This brings out Jungle Boy, alone, and Kenny makes fun of Jungle Boy’s ability to cut a promo, and that nobody is better on the mic then Kenny Omega and if Jungle Boy has something to say he better say it quick. Jungle Boy simply says “You talk to much.” This pisses Kenny off and goes to hit Jungle Boy but Jungle Boy fights back and goes to lock in the snare trap but The Young Bucks make the save and Jungle Boy bails.

Segment Rating: 5.25/10

I enjoyed this, Kenny came off as cocky and overbearing which he’s supposed to and Jungle Boy didn’t need to say anything he did the real talking in the action part of the segment. The match taking place on June 26th is going to be a marathon of a match and I’m super excited to watch it and they made me excited for it just by emphasizing the differences in character.

Nyla Rose vs. Leyla Hirsch

This was a good match I just hste who won. I don’t like that Nyla has basically gotten a shot at every champion just cause. Now I get it, Britt has never beaten her but, Nyla hasn’t been built up enough to deserve a title shot, this was her first match on Dynamite since March.

Regardless of my gripes this was a pretty good match that had great back and forth action and Leyla was laying in her strikes which I love and her submissions of course were amazing. Nyla’s power of course was too much for her and Nyla turns a Frankensteiner attempt into an avalanche beast bomb to secure her victory.

Britt Baker had a promo immediately after this where she talks about Nyla ruining her championship celebration and she knows Nyla wants the title but Nyla needs the title to be relevant where Britt is the face of rhe division and she makes the title relevant.

Segment Rating: 6/10

This match was very enjoyable I didn’t think Leyla Hirsch was the one who needed to lose to get Nyla a win, they could have used someone who hasn’t won eleven freaking matches in a row, but I digress. This is building Nyla versus Britt for the title where Britt will win making this pointless just to fill time but if the match is good I guess it wasn’t all for nothing.

Team Taz (Will Hobbs & Brian Cage) vs. “Hangman” Adam Page & Preston “10” Vance

I didn’t love this match but it was fine. Page continues his growing relationship with Dark Order despite not being an official member yet. Dark Order’s 10 keeps getting better in the ring, but this match in particular he really enjoyed doing the running pump kick a lot and that got annoying to the point where his opponents just saw it coming. Hobbs had a crazy good looking spinebuster in this match and Cage looked good as always.

The turning point of the match, after Cage & Hobbs hit a high-low spear and chop block combo for a near fall, Hook distracts the ref while Hobbs is restraining Vance, Ricky Starks tosses the FTW Title to Cage who looks at it and tosses it back. Starks is mad about this and gets on the apron and yells at Cage and slaps him hard, which of course angers Cage who cases Starks to the back, leaving Hobbs alone. This results Vance getting the upper hand again and Hangman hitting a buckshot lariat for the pinfall victory. All the Dark Order come out and celebrate with beers and water for Brodie Jr. and Colt Cabana.

Segment Rating: 5/10

This is the second week in a row I would have preferred a different match as the main event. The Miro match should have been the main event. This was a fine match sure it just didn’t feel like a main event to me. The point of this match was clearly to get over this Team Taz split we’ve been building to for a while, it’s happening soon and I don’t know if Brian Cage as a babyface is the right move but it’s a wait and see.

Remarkable Wrestler of the Week

For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, Miro.

Miro gets the RWOW this week because he just keeps getting better and his storytelling leading into this match and during it was off the charts. The man does his job so well.

Overall

This was an okay episode of Dynamite, there’s certainly been better ones but I didn’t hate it completely, overall I give it a 5.2 out 10. As far as stuff not covered, Lance Archer destroyed a jobber, Kenny Omega and Don Callis showed a video of how apparently management tried to screw him out of the title with fake dialog. Sting and Darby doing s promo where Darby says he wants to face Ethan Page and Scorpio alone and doesn’t want Sting to come to the building. Scropio and Ethan’s response, and Ryan Nemeth, Peter Avalon, and Cezar Bononi asking Orange Cassidy to join them or deal with Bononi. None of that needed to be covered but it was all fine I guess. They also announced five different special events in the coming weeks that hopefully starts building to more things because these past two weeks felt missable but still not horrible.
