Welcome, everyone to the latest edition of #MouthingOff (with MikeJC): Dynamite Weekly, the weekly review feature on AEW Dynamite here on SLTDWrestling.com. I will be giving my thoughts and opinions on all the highlights of the show as well as giving the “Remarkable Wrestler” of the week. So here are the highlights of the Double Or Nothing Go-Home show on Friday, June 4th edition of AEW Dynamite.
Death Triangle (PAC & Penta El Zero Miedo) vs. The Young Bucks
Before this match got underway during The Bucks entrance one them gave their headband to Michael Nakazawa and he pretended to react like a crazed fan only to be attacked by Kazarian who continues to target members of The Elite and he’s chased off by The Good Brothers.
This match was great back and forth action, with elite influence on a bucks match once again. There was some great wrestling between these teams as expected. Both teams are tremendous in ring performers and the chemistry is off the charts. Some spots that stuck our was when Matt and PAC were fighting on the apron then Nick and Penta get involved, Penta giving Matt a package piledriver on the apron and Nick giving PAC a deadlift German suplex on thr apron. That was one of my favorite spots.
Back in the ring Nick and Penta are going back and forth, and Nick removes the mask of Penta, but Penta had a second one on. When Penta goes off the ropes Nick pulls worlds worst ref Rick Knox in the way. This opens an opportunity for Penta to hit a low blow, and a package piledriver then tags PAC to hit the black arrow which he does but he took too long and Matt broke it up. Knox is still holding his eye and PAC goes back up but Brandon Cutler gets involved hitting PAC with a camera and Nick stacks him up for the pinfall victory.
After the match the Bucks go to attack Penta after the match but Eddie Kingston makes the save as the Bucks bail.
Segment Rating: 6.5/10
This is a good match, I’m sick of Rick Knox completely because he’s bad, storyline or not, but he’s The Elite ref so in storyline it makes sense I guess. PAC getting pinned again is annoying but I want to believe he will be built up again soon. Also it seems Eddie and Mox are not done with the Bucks so we’ll see where that goes.
Cody Rhodes & Lee Johnson vs. QT Marshall & Anthony Ogogo
This match was very unnecessary especially after Cody won on Sunday. Why would Cody want to face either these two again after beating them both in singles matches clean? Why would he need to? He doesn’t, he’s stupid for having this tag match at all. So he basically got what he deserved for being dumb. The match itself was fine but it ended with a distraction finish, when Anthony Solow appeared to distract the ref, Ogogo knocked out Cody (even though he couldn’t do that on Sunday) and QT made the cover for the pin and took the credit and got on the mic and accused Tony Schiavone of never liking him which also wasn’t needed.
Segment Rating: 4/10
This did one good thing, showcased Lee Johnson, everything else was done to prolong this when it eas completely unnecessary and that’s really all I have to say about it.
Inner Circle Stadium Stampede Victory Lap
Inner Circle all come out, Jericho says all thr crowd has Stadium Stampede shirts under their seats, and asks the fans to applaude the reason Inner Circle is still together, Sammy Guevara. Sammy thanks his mom and says hi to her, and says he used do 630s off her roof so him winning Sunday with a 630 was special to him. Santana addresses FTR and says they haven’t forgotten that FTR tried to end their careers with those piledrivers through the tables, and Ortiz adds its far from over between then. Hager challenges Wardlow to an MMA cage fight in two weeks and tells Wardlow to “man up”.
Jericho gets on the mic next and agrees that the war against the Pinnacle is far from over. Shawn Spears pisses him off, MJF pisses him off too. He calls out MJF about Blood and Guts and he says he thinks about it every single day. He must settle the score with MJF and this will never end until hr does. He closes by saying, “The Inner Circle never forgives and The Inner Circle sure as hell never f’n forgets!”
Segment Rating: 5/10
I wish this feud was over but I expected this to break off into separate singles and tag matches and thats what’s happening. Hopefully after that it’s the end and we can move on but I don’t know how it doesn’t end with someone in the Inner Circle turning which I expect will happen at some point.
Christian Cage & Jungle Boy vs. Private Party
This match was put together because of the interaction between these two teams in the casino battle royale. Early in the match saw Private Party using distractions to get the upper hand. At one point Private Party mocked Edge & Christian by doing the backwards roll splash they used to do and mocking the “5 second pose”. Jungle Boy would get back in and clear house and get a near fall with a ring in tornado DDT. After Jungle Boy gets back up Isaiah Kassidy thumbs him in the eye, and Marq Quen follows it up with a roll up snd grabs the tights for s near fall. They go for the Gin and Juice but Jungle flips out of it and turns it into the snare trap for the submission victory.
Post match Christian leeaves to let Jungle Boy celebrate and is attacked by Matt Hardy from behind with a twist of fate on the ramp.
Segment Rating: 5.25/10
This was a fine match that did it’s job, gave Jungle Boy momentum into his AEW title match on June 26th, and continued building to sn inevitable singles match between Christian and Matt Hardy which should be good. Private Party wrestling in dress clothes is funny but seems like it limits their mobility as evident by some of the spots that didn’t look great here. They should probably go bsck to gear.
Sting Speaks Again/Britt Baker Championship Celebration
I decided to lump these together because they were back to back and they both kind of sucked. Tony interviewed Sting who has Darby with him again, he says he’ll never forget Sunday and gets a “you still got it chant” and he says that chant is his chance to thank the fans. This interrupted by Scorpio Sky & Ethan Page on the screen, Sky says Sting was so good that Darby was dragged by him over the finish line. Ethan Page says Sting is carrying him. He calls Darby a co-dependent bitch. They challenge Darby to find someone else to partner with besides Sting, and Darby said nothing, why?
Right after this after a commercial, Tony Schiavone is in the ring with a bunch of heels and they welcome her put to celebrate her victory. There’s a table of Big Macs, and she claims she put a coupon under the fans seats, she then reveals that she has them in the ring because nobody was really there for her she did it on her own. Then her and, Rebel, and Tony go to toast with burgers, but Nyla Rose gets aggravated by the whole thing and flips the burgers out of their hands and the ones on the table and leaves.
Segment Rating: 4.25/10
I didn’t care for either of these at all. I lumped them together because they both felt completely unnecessary. I don’t think they needed to do a “Interrupting Sting” promo to put this together. They could have just as easily said Sting can’t compete for any reason they can think of so Darby should want the rematch himself. The Britt segment was all bad, doing the “check under your seat” gimmick twice despite her being a heel and taking it back it was done already, think of something else. Also I don’t understand why they have this fascination with Nyla Rose. She hasn’t been in a match on Dynamite in months, she’s done nothing to be next in line. I’m tired of her as a whole, let Britt work with anyone else first.
The Bunny vs. Red Velvet
This was a fine match that if you didn’t watch Dark or Elevation (which I don’t) you wouldn’t know why it’s happening. Red Velvet did a suicide dive that is usually very good but she almost landed on her head in this one. Bunny’s offense has improved a lot and her strikes were snug which looked good. Red Velvet keeps Bunny from cheating, and hits her finish for the win.
Segment Rating: 4.75/10
Nothing much to say here, I wish Red Velvet had some momentum behind her so she could challenge Britt instead of Nyla.
Bull Rope Match: Nick Comoroto vs. Dustin Rhodes
This shouldn’t have been the main event, also the wrong person won. There is no reason why Dustin needed a win here. I can’t stress enough how much I’ve hated this because of how the younger talent involved have looked like shit. The Program as a whole is doing the exact opposite of what it should do, help the younger talent.
There’s back and forth action they made Comoroto look like a monster by kicking out at 1 and it taking a lot to put him down but Dustin absolutely didn’t need to win as mentioned. Also it didn’t need Aaron Solow and Colton Gunn getting involved at all. This is not good, obviously Comoroto isn’t ready and we knew he isn’t ready and if that’s the case and you knew that, just don’t have the match. Dustin wins after hitting Comoroto with the cowbell a bunch hits a low blow then a diving bulldog and uses the rope to hog tie his legs during the pin, I hated it.
Segment Rating: 3.5/10
I didn’t like this at all if it wasn’t evident enough, this Nightmare Family versus Factory crap isn’t working, whatever this isn’t working at all and it’s not helping anyone at all. It needs to end and never be acknowledged again.
Remarkable Wrestler of the Week
For this episode of AEW Dynamite, the Remarkable Wrestler of the Week is, The Young Bucks.
The Young Bucks get the RWOW because they continue to play up these characters and have great matches while doing it and they had the only great match on this show.
Overall
So this was one of the weaker AEW Dynamite episodes, overall I give it a 4.75 out 10. A lot of “we’re not finished with you yet” on this show that isn’t necessary at all. There was one big surprise that happened on this show that wasn’t long enough to deserve a rating, the debut of Andrade El Idolo, I wasn’t expecting this debut on this show and I’m super excited for what he does without WWE shackles and even though its a big deal it wasn’t a big segment deserving a rating. Also Miro did a decent promo to set up his match with Evil Uno next week for the TNT Championship. Taz challenging Hangman and a member of Dark Order which was later revealed to be Preston “10” Vance to face Brian Cage & Powerhouse Hobbs. Not every episode of Dynamite can be a classic and there is some good here but all these stories not ending is not good and AEW is usually much better then this.
