The WWE World Championship match at SummerSlam features possibly the #1 act in the company, champion Dean Ambrose against a man who is at a crossroads in his career, Dolph Ziggler.  Both men NEED to win this match, Ambrose to prove he really is the real deal and Ziggler because he’s been the perennial underachiever.  I believe now is not the time to take the title off Ambrose because he is such a hot act.  Ambrose wins, then Ziggler becomes so frustrated he attacks Ambrose after the match, turning himself heel in the process and continuing what has become a very interesting program.

Dolph Ziggler has been an absolute treat to watch over the last few weeks. As much as I don’t condone blatantly ripping off my favourite wrestler of all time, Shawn Michaels, Ziggler’s new style and attitude has put him ahead as one of SmackDown Live’s most exhilarating characters. That opening promo on this week’s show was extraordinary! Mick Foley even went so far as to dub it his “Austin 3:16” moment, which at this point in his career could be big news for the man.

That being said, the pessimist in me just doesn’t see WWE going all in on Dolph Ziggler and giving him the championship, especially considering Ambrose was only drafted as the blue brand’s #1 pick merely five weeks ago, because of that title. I will go with Ambrose here because I genuinely see more potential with him as champion as opposed to challenger, but don’t be surprised if he ends up making the turn to heel as a result of Dolph Ziggler taking him to the limit this Sunday.

Am actually looking forward to this match more than I thought I would be. I think the build up has been fantastic and it’s been great to see Ziggler finally get the push that he’s deserved for so long. I’ll be honest I was getting a bit bored of this build up last week. When Ambrose claimed Ziggler only cared what people thought of him and to prove him wrong he wanted to prove to everyone he deserved this chance was a little backwards to me and I thought this is just going to prove that Ziggler shouldn’t be in the title picture. However after the Miz TV incident on this weeks Smackdown! Ziggler has proved that he deserves to be where he is. He shot a fantastic promo and caught me completely off guard with that kick which is exactly what you want for a go home before a PPV! As much as I would love to see Ziggler as the champ I think Ambrose is being a fantastic champion at the minute and his title run is definitely not over yet and I think he is going to win at SummerSlam #AndStill be the WWE Champion!

I must admit, when I saw that Dolph Ziggler would be in Smackdown’s main event at Summerslam, I questioned it. There’s no denying Ziggler’s ability to have stellar matches and ‘steal the show’ but it’s WWE’s questionable booking of the former World Heavyweight Champion that puts the doubts in my mind. Why should we believe he is a credible contender to the Championship after his losing streak to Baron Corbin on PPV Pre Shows? I’m all for his elevation up the card, to a spot that utilises him well but I feel he is acting as a placeholder for Dean Ambrose’s next (and more Phenomenal) rivalry. Ambrose retains.

So this Sunday it’s Dean Ambrose defending his WWE World Heavyweight Title against Dolph Ziggler. Being the huge Ziggler fan I’m obviously thrilled to see him given such an opportunity at a grand stage like SummerSlam, however, I feel the build up could have been so much more, I think it’s been undersold to the casual fan how hard Dolph has worked for this. I’d have liked to see clips of him in the Spirit Squad and as the caddy which highlighted the level he scratched and clawed within to get to where he is. Again, as much as I love Ziggler and would love him as champion, from a programming standpoint, Ambrose needs a longer run with the title, really cement himself as the top guy on Smackdown. If he were to drop the title after just a couple of months, it’d de value him, the title and the work he’s put in this far. Admittedly I’d be elated at a Ziggler win, but I think the feud should continue a bit longer, with Dolph taking the title another time, so Ambrose to win.

@mrnebarry (Old Skool View)
For me it makes sense for Ambrose to retain. With Ziggler not being #1 or #2 face or heel on the brand, this match was made purely because they wanted AJ vs Cena again. Ziggler will put up a valiant effort and will come up short then he’ll drop down to upper mid-card and possibly feud with Miz over the IC Strap. Ambrose to win via pinfall then move on to AJ.

This result seemed to be set in stone from the moment the number one contender six pack challenge had a winner. Despite SmackDown!’s attempt at promoting Dolph Ziggler, there’s little reason for me to believe that he could possibly defeat the “Lunatic Fringe” Dean Ambrose. SmackDown! did all they could to get Ziggler over, but years of being showed up more than showed off has left the Show Off with little main event credibility to his name. He did beat Bray Wyatt, but Dean Ambrose’s stardom easily surpasses Ziggler’s. Dean will be carrying the flag for SmackDown!, at least for the remainder of the year. I guess you can argue that this title match will help Ziggler a little but there’s no good reason for him to beat Dean for the championship right now.

Shawn Michaels mannerisms and a Billy Gunn haircut, Dolph Zigglers push came from nowhere. Although the former cheerleader has been staring on Tuesday night Smackdown, it’s unlikely that he will pick up a win over Dean Ambrose at Summerslam. I personally believe that Ambrose will be the WWE Champion after Summerslam and he will hold the belt for a significant period of time. Dirty Deeds and a 1,2,3 will be the end for Dolph Ziggler’s title hopes.

@TOWNnation (The Fox Files)
When we all found out that Dolph Ziggler won the 6 man Battle Royal, I think every single wrestling fan was shocked about what just happened. After 3 years of not been treated right, he now is as he’s getting a WWE World Championship opportunity against Dean Ambrose. Although after saying what I just have, I can’t see WWE putting the title on Dolph Ziggler, although I do think they’ll put on a pretty good match. So for that reason, my pick is Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE World Championship.

Despite not making an official heel turn, I’d imagine Ziggler will play the heel role on Sunday against Ambrose, over the past few weeks Ziggler has been showing how good he really can be. Much like the Balor vs Rollins match I’m not fussed on who walks out with the World Championship. However this feud has felt a mid card feud for the main Smackdown title, as it’s been overshadowed by the Cena vs Styles and Lesnar vs Orton feuds.

Personally I think Ziggler should win this match as it’d be a legitimate surprise, also if Dolph loses I doubt we’d see him again in the title feud for a while. However, if Ambrose were to lose I still think he’ll be pushed as a main event guy. Also the first Smackdown PPV of the new brand extension is titled Backlash, so surely it’d make sense that Ambrose wants Backlash against Dolph for winning the title. I truly believe that these guys will have a memorable match at Summerslam, Dolph will steal the show and the title.

@TheWWEVoiceless (Voice Of Reason)
WWE have really tried to make the “filler” match between Dolph Ziggler and Dean Ambrose a compelling encounter. Ziggler has become more intense and focussed whereas Ambrose has been more arrogant and a tiny bit heelish in persona. The story itself does lack compared to Rollins vs. Balor or Orton vs. Lesnar, but that doesn’t mean the match itself won’t be a good one. I expect a lot of false finishes and for both men to leave it all in the ring. Although I think Ziggler is in bigger need of the win to get his career on track, Ambrose is the one walking out of SummerSlam with the WWE World Title. There’s no need to stop his momentum and I predict a fairly long run for him as champion.
