SLTD Prediction – Rollins vs. Balor – Universal Championship

With SLTD Wrestling’s SummerSlam Week well underway, and the go home Raw before SummerSlam is in the books, Team SLTD have got together to share our thoughts on who will be crowned the first ever WWE Universal Champion. Seth Rollins or Finn Balor.

Make sure to tweet us or comment below with your thoughts.

@ColinHebert614 (The Certain Jerker)

The first ever WWE Universal Champion will be crowned this Sunday at SummerSlam and features 2 of the best all-around performers in WWE today.  Seth Rollins, former WWE World Heavyweight Champion against Finn Balor, former NXT Champion and recent call-up to the WWE main roster.  Rollins got into this title match by, well, by being Seth Rollins.  He was given a bye, presumably a favor by RAW Commissioner Stephanie McMahon.  Balor had to win a Fatal-4 Way match in his debut on RAW and THEN defeat Roman Reigns, a former 3-time WWE World Heavyweight Champion, at the end of that debut show.  I’ve always said that Balor should be the champ as soon as he debuts on the main roster and I will not be changing my mind now.  He’s also bringing his “Demon King” character with him and losing to Seth Rollins the first time he brings out the character seems rather pointless and would doom Balor in the eyes of the fans for a long time.

As much as I love Finn Bálor, I think Seth Rollins has it in the bag this Sunday. It’s likely that WWE played the “Demon King” card on Raw so it wouldn’t overshadow Rollins at SummerSlam. One thing’s for sure though – this match is going to be phenomenal. We saw a glimpse of the action on Raw, but something tells me we’re going to be on the edge of our seats on Sunday, praying that the match would never end. Both men are well capable of making that happen, and even though I can see Rollins walking out victorious, I think Finn Bálor will remain in the running for the title for quite some time after.

Personally, I can’t wait to see this match. I am a little hesitant though as I feel like Rollins as Champion may be a bit too familiar and I think a build around his path to ‘Reclaim’ would be a great program. On the other hand, Balor carried NXT for almost a year, but does that mean he is the right guy to carry the flagship show at this point in time? They’re probably my favourites on the roster and I hope they tear the house down but for now, I can’t decide who I want to win nevermind who I think will win.

@TOWNnation (The Fox Flies)

What a match this will be, we all know that. It’s 2 of the best competitors to ever step foot in the squared circle at Summerslam. And if the stakes couldn’t be higher, the winner receives a BRAND NEW Universal championship. Now, as much as I’m not fond of the name of the belt, there’s no one more deserving to gold the belt then these 2. They’ve put there bodies and careers in the line for the past decade but never crossed paths. Seth Rollins, huge fan of, but your time is up.. because you’ve fan into the Demon King. So with me saying that, my prediction is for Finn Balor to win the Universal Championship at Seth Rollins at Summerslam.

@TheWWEVoiceless  (The Voice of Reason)

We are just days away from what some would consider a dream match; Seth Rollins will take on Finn Balor for the newly formed WWE Universal Championship. WWE have managed to make the story very compelling, with minimal physical confrontation. Seth Rollins had played his role perfectly, being the egotistical “veteran” who believes he shouldn’t even be challenged for a title match. Simultaneously, Balor’s booking has been almost perfect, winning his first two matches on Raw and then being drip fed a glimpse of what he can accomplish. The tease of Balor the demon really has made every fan excited for the match. SummerSlam will show the similarities of both superstars, in a match that could very well be match of the year – both men are capable of it. Although my brain tells me that Rollins will walk out with the belt, my hope is that Finn Balor is the first ever Universal Champion, making the perfect debut

If you would ask me to explain what a wet dream is, I’d say it’s something that’s happening to lots of hardcore wrestling fans right this minute. Going in to Summerslam, we have ‘The Demon King’ Finn Balor taking on Seth freakin’ Rollins to become the newly crowned WWE Universal Champion. I’m calling shenanigans to end this match and the feud to continue post Summerslam. I feel that Seth Rollins will walk out as the first WWE Universal Champion. The only way to make this happen without stopping the momentum of Balor would be to have Rollins win in controversial fashion. I’m going to state here on record that the Club will be involved and may join Rollins instead of rejoining forces with Finn Balor. Winner: Seth Rollins

@TomRobinson5199 (Armbar Analysis)

This match is interesting in the sense that it’s not like Finn’s been on the main roster for a few months now. He’s been on the main roster… for a month. Already, Finn is in an historic title match to crown the first Universal Champion as he takes on Seth Rollins. As the top overall superstar on RAW, in terms of talking and wrestling, Seth probably should be the champion for now. He’s been comfortable in that role before as the champion, so why not have a proven champion win the Universal title? Then again, do you really want to beat Finn Balor this early into his in-ring WWE career? Finn seems to be someone high on the WWE’s radar at the moment, having one of the greatest debuts of all time on the RAW after Battleground and the introduction of the “Demon King” this week.To do all this and then wind up beating the man would make little sense to me. I’m going to boldly predict that Finn will win the championship following interference from the Club, with a grand double turn involving Finn and Seth. I could see Finn and the Club both winning titles at SummerSlam.

The Demon vs The Man, for me this is my dream match, I am a huge fan of both Finn and Seth, therefore whoever wins on Sunday night I won’t be too disappointed. Over the past few we, Finn has got the upper hand on Rollins, usually whenever this happens in WWE land, Rollins would win. However I believe this Sunday it’ll be different, therefore I believe the Demon will be the first ever universal champion, in hopefully the main event of Summerslam that’ll be another Match Of The Year contender.

@kieranthekiz (UKayfabe)

As great as the Rollins/Bálor match at SummerSlam will be, I have a few complaints about the booking. Firstly, a match of this quality should have had a bigger build, it feels there’s a lot more of a story yet to tell, and despite the fact there’s the crowning of the first ‘Universal Champion’ at stake, I don’t feel as if they’ve interacted enough. Secondly, the fact that we saw ‘The Demon’ Finn Bálor on Raw was a huge mistake. ‘The Demon’ should have been saved for SummerSlam, as usually Bálor only brings out this persona for title matches or PPV events, I feel the impact of his entrance at SS has been lessened now seeing as we saw it on Raw.

Anyway, my prediction. As much as I love both competitors, I feel that Bálor has only just got started, and Rollins is still the present and very much the future of WWE so he should be crowned the first ever Universal Champion, to boost his character that is very much centred around boasting his accomplishments. Like I said, the story of these two still has many chapters to tell, so hopefully we’ll see this feud continue for a while longer, but their bout at SummerSlam will truly be a classic.
