#TheWrestlingBrain – This Is NXT Monthly: July (@callumowen98)

Hello everybody, it’s me TWB and we have a new feature here at SLTD Wrestling, every month I’ll bring my thoughts on what is going down in NXT over the last month, so let’s down to business.

NXT Is Undisputed… Bay Bay

So, I’ll start of my brand-new feature, celebrating the best faction in NXT right now, the quartet consisting of North American Champion Adam Cole, Tag Champions Kyle O’Reily and Roderick Strong and the injured Bobby Fish, collectively known as The Undisputed Era. Ever since the faction debuted last year, they have been the main focus of the brand dominating in both singles and tag divisions, and when Fish got hurt in March he was quickly replaced by Roderick Strong, and Strong has excelled in the heel role.

Over the past four weeks, O’Reily and Strong lost their tag titles to Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate and Trent Seven) in the UK during the specials at Royal Albert Hall but reclaimed their belts in a fantastic match last week. In between the Tag Championship matches, there was an excellent 6-man tag match as Undisputed Era were pitted against the aforementioned Moustache Mountain and Ricochet in a winning effort.

As for Cole he successfully defended his North American Championship against Danny Burch, so overall the last month for the Undisputed Era was well… Undisputed.

Johnny Badass

Ever since his defeat to his arch-rival Tommaso Ciampa, Johnny Gargano has had a slight character change. He is still a babyface but he has become more sinister, angry and dangerous than ever. He still wants vendetta on Ciampa and he won’t rest until he gets his hands on his former DIY partner. Two weeks ago, he brought out his new dangerous side as he defeated EC3 in a vicious battle.

What will happen in the next few weeks? Will we see Gargano get revenge on Ciampa and will Gargano’s behaviour continue to spiral downwards?

Will Sane end Shayna

Shayna Baszler is undefeated in NXT since winning the NXT Women’s Championship, defeating the likes of Ember Moon, Nikki Cross and Dakota Kai convincingly. On this week’s NXT she has a new challenger, but a familiar one, the opponent that defeated her in the final of last year’s Mae Young Classic Final, the Pirate Princess Kairi Sane.

The NXT Women’s division seems to be constantly developing, with regulars like Nikki Cross and Candice LeRae getting good TV time, and with the upcoming Mae Young Classic 2 starting in August, a new crop of female talent will no doubt be pushed and utilized in the months to come. So, this could be Sane’s big chance to shine against the seemingly unstoppable Baszler.

The top 1 Velveteen

Velveteen Dream is the best character on NXT TV. I’ve said it numerous times, he is only 22 and in mine (and many others) opinion, he has the brightest future out of all the NXT roster. It seems that Dream will now feud with the equally popular EC3. This came after the two teamed up against Aleister Black and Ricochet in a losing effort after Dream walked out on his partner.

EC3 has had a steady start to his 2nd NXT run, (although his original Derrick Bateman gimmick is never mentioned) his character work is excellent, although somewhat similar to Bobby Roode’s, hasn’t felt like a main eventer to me quite yet. However, a strong showing at NXT Takeover Brooklyn could make EC3 feel like the Top One Percent.

Ciampa Champion

Could we be about to see a psycho killer on the loose as NXT Champion?

Tommaso Ciampa will face-off against Aleister Black on next week’s episode with the NXT Championship on the line. Ciampa made his intention clear after defeating Gargano, he was coming after the undefeated champion, Black.

Last week he assaulted the Dutch Destroyer in a brutal backstage attack, we’ll find out soon enough as that match takes place next week.

What are your thoughts on the current NXT product? Is it the best show under the WWE brand?
Join me once again just before Summerslam as I’ll have a double NXT article dropping. Until then follow @sltdwrestling and myself @callumowen98 on Twitter
