For the first time ever eight women will step inside the WarGames structure, Undisputed Era will face-off against 3 of NXT’s top singles stars and a mystery partner, a newly turned heel Finn Balor takes on Matt Riddle and a number one contenders Triple Threat Match. So, let’s get started…
Killian Dain Vs Damian Priest Vs Pete Dunne – Winner faces Adam Cole at Survivor Series for NXT Championship
These three man have been tangled in a feud for the last few weeks. Priest and Dunne have had two singles matches, the first ended with a Priest victory after a kick to groin to Dunne whilst the ref wasn’t looking led to the former Punishment Martinez hitting his finisher for the victory. In their second bout, Dunne got a measure of revenge with a low blow of his own, and then locking in his submission finish, which led to Priest tapping out, post match Dain would attack both men.
Considering whoever wins will receive a title shot at Survivor Series against Adam Cole I suspect that it won’t be Killian Dain, as that’d be a heel Vs heel clash, and also it looks like Dain and Dunne will have some sort of feud as they had their match called off completely following Priest laying both men out. My guess is Priest wins and will face Cole at the Survivor Series PPV. Winner – Damian Priest
Finn Balor Vs Matt Riddle
Four weeks ago on NXT, Finn Balor turned heel and would attack Johnny Gargano, and Johnny Wrestling would suffer injuries which ruled him out of tonight’s Takeover. Balor would then set his sights on Matt Riddle, and layed out the King Of Bro’s.
This will be a match to remember for certain, Riddle is one of my favourite NXT wrestlers currently on the roster, and Balor as a heel is definitely working. My guess is Finn Balor wins this one to keep the heel momentum going, and then whenever Gargano is ready to be able to return we’ll get that bout between The Demon and Johnny Wrestling. Winner – Finn Balor
Women’s WarGames Match: Shayna Baszler (C), Io Shirai, Bianca Belair and Kay Lee Ray Vs Rhea Ripley (C), Tegan Nox, Candice LeRae and Mia Yim
This has the potential of being one of the best women’s matches of all time, I’m very excited that all eight women will be able to get a strong showing 30+ minute match inside a WarGames structure.
Rhea Ripley is the biggest threat to Baszler’s championship reign and whatever the result is tonight, I expect Rhea will chase Baszler for the next few weeks. The wildcard in this match is Kay Lee Ray, she is the NXT UK Women’s Champion and to most fans it’ll be their first time witnessing Kay Lee Ray in action.
I think Rhea’s team win with Ripley pinning Bianca Belair, this keeps Shayna strong ahead of her match against Bayley and Becky Lynch at Survivor Series, but also keeps Rhea’s momentum and makes her the most logical contender for the NXT Women’s Championship. Winners – Team Rhea Ripley
Men’s WarGames Match: Adam Cole (C), Roderick Strong, Kyle O’Rilley and Bobby Fish Vs Tommaso Ciampa (C), Keith Lee, Dominic Dijakovic and A Mystery Partner
For the third in a year a row, Undisputed Era will be competing inside WarGames, currently they’re 1-1, they were victorious in their first showing defeating SAnity and Authors of Pain and a face Roderick Strong, however last year they were beaten by War Raiders, Pete Dunne and Ricochet. This year they’re taking on three of NXT’s best talents and an unannounced mystery partner, so this one is obviously going to be close to call.
However I think the mystery partner will play a crucial role in this match, I believe Tommaso Ciampa will choose Evan Bourne, I know this is completely left field, and there’s no history at all between the two, but he is competing for Evolve which is affiliated with NXT, but also his style will suit the WarGames structure, and having a high flyer will mix things up in this one, imagine an Air Bourne off the structure?
Much like my reasoning behind the women’s WarGames prediction, Ciampa is looking to be Cole’s main title challenger and could do with the victory, but he won’t pin Cole, who by the way has been on a roll for the last few weeks, I think Ciampa will pin Fish. As for Bourne maybe he enters in a feud with Angel Garza or Lio Rush. Winners – Team Ciampa
