#WhatTheFact?! Ten Interesting Elimination Chamber Facts (@TheTyboLedson) #WWEChamber

Welcome to the first of a new monthly series, What The Fact?! Here we drop ten interesting facts about the upcoming PPV (although we usually do something different for the big four). Let’s get started with some Elimination Chamber facts…

ONE: What is It?

Elimination Chamber is a hellish structure that combines many WWE-stipulated matches. The structure of Hell in a Cell, the countdown of the Rumble, and the resemblance of Wargames.

It is said that Elimination Chamber was Vince McMahon’s response to a War Games match, that was well known as a WCW PPV. So, rather than re-use something he didn’t create, he pushed for something new. Elimination Chamber was born.

TWO: Who’s Idea?

Although WWE storylines would have you think Eric Bischoff was the creator of the Chamber match, that credit actually goes to Triple H.

The story goes that in a meeting Triple H would draw a square box with smaller squares in each corner then explain how the ‘pods’ would work and the intrigue of having all superstars feuding with each other.

THREE: The Structure

The Elimination Chamber is like nothing WWE has ever built before, it was built in Colorado, it took almost eight weeks, and cost $250,000 to construct.

The original structure is made of steel with an outer structure of 16 frames, each weighing 300 pounds. The chamber is 16ft high and 36ft in diameter and weighs a total of 16 short tons, 10 of which consist of steel. Each inner chamber consists of three large steel-framed sheets of plexiglass, costing $225 per sheet. The chains that surround the chamber stretch 2 miles long and weigh 6 short tons.

A 50ft flatbed truck is needed to transport the chamber. Assembly in the arena takes eight hours to complete and eight motors are used to suspend the structure over the ring before each event.

FOUR: It’s Not Always a Chamber

Long-time WWE fans will remember that the Elimination Chamber PPV replaced the ‘No Way Out’ PPV. This changed everywhere except Germany. In Germany, the PPV was named ‘No Escape’, as WWE thought having a PPV called Chamber, could potentially be linked to the Holocaust.

You would think WWE would just create a PPV name that could work worldwide, but what do we know…

FIVE: Water into Wine

The Chamber is known as one of the matches that can shorten careers, which is why they only happen once a year. There is one man who threw caution to the wind and competed in two Chambers in one night.

Back in 2009, Edge would have to defend his World Heavyweight Championship inside the structure but was eliminated early. Later in the night Edge would attack Kofi Kingston on the way to the ring, steal his spot, and win the WWE Championship.

SIX: A Dominant Monster

Although he has never won an Elimination Chamber match, you could argue that Brawn Strowman is the most dominant man in Chamber history.

Strowman is the only man to eliminate everyone in one Chamber match except the eventual winner, Roman Reigns. This record looks to be set for a while unless someone eliminates everyone and wins.

SEVEN: Six is the Magic Number

You would think the Elimination Chamber’s rules would be set in stone, six superstars enter, and the last one standing wins. This was not always the case.

In 2006 Elimination Chamber went extreme and everyone had weapons, amazingly this is widely considered the worst Chamber in history.

If that wasn’t enough, in 2018 we had the first (and to date only) seven-man Chamber match.

EIGHT: Pod of Gold

There have been five Elimination Chamber matches in history that have had every member of the match be a former, future, or current World Champion. (2002, 2003, 2005, 2013, and 2021)

This is yet to happen in a Women’s Elimination Chamber match, but it can’t be long before it does… right?

NINE: Out with the Old

The whole Elimination Chamber was almost scrapped back in 2015. If you remember the Chamber was replaced by ‘Fastlane’. This was later explained by Stephanie McMahon saying that most newer arenas were unable to support the structure.

So, after a two-year hiatus Elimination Chamber would return with not only a new look but a completely new structure that today’s arenas can sustain.

TEN: The Same, but Different

The Elimination Chamber 2021 tried to do something different by having the Elimination Chamber winner face Reigns for the Universal Championship ‘on the spot’, but this has happened twice before… sort of.

Both times John Cena was forced to defend his title as soon as the Chamber was over. Once against Edge, who was the first Mr. Money in the Bank in 2006, and once against Batista in 2010. Cena lost both times.
