WWMD – Returning to the Rumble is……. Rob Van Dam

So in this series of WWMD’s, we look at potential returners to WWE, what impact they could have, what they could do and what talent they could help get over. We’ll also have a look at their run in WWE, starting at the Rumble and culminating in a match at WrestleMania. So, with that in mind, let’s get looking at today’s returner : Rob Van Dam.

What have they done in the past?

Grand Slam Champion in WWE, Money in the Bank winner and the first person to simlatenously hold the WWE and ECW World Heavyweight Championships. Rob Van Dam has seen and done it all in WWE. Van Dam has also held titles in TNA inbetween stints in WWE. He’s most known for his run in the original ECW and being the ECW World Champion for 700 days. When he first debuted in the then WWF, he had a series of WWF Hardcore Title matches with Jeff Hardy. These were the clear highlight of the failed Invasion storyline – go watch them and enjoy.

What impact could they have?

A lot. Rob Van Dam could put more prestiege in the WWE Intercontinental Title. He could invigorate Monday Night Raw. Or could bring back the Hardcore Title. There is a lot that Van Dam could do, if given the time and opportunity. This in turns leads to new stars being made, new talent coming up and new storylines. He could easily be used to put over new talent, or even solidify existing talent. With this in mind, let’s look and see who we could get Van Dam working with.

Who could they work with?

For me there is one outstanding candidate that could have a 5 star match with Rob Van Dam – Dean Ambrose. The pair of them are amazingly intense, hardcore and risk taking wrestlers. Look at what Ambrose did before he came to WWE and you’ll smile too. I’d quite happily see them wrestle for the IC Title in a Ladder match at WrestleMania. On the other hand, it could even be as part of a Money in the Bank match. In between the Rumble and WrestleMania we could see Van Dam help put over younger/newer talent, or even teaming up to challenge for the Tag Titles. Let Ambrose and Van Dam have the slow build to what could be an amazing match.
